This thesis examines the effect of the 2004 EU enlargement on regions receiving funding under the EU's Convergence objective between 2000-2011. The thesis consists of an introduction, literature review on regional convergence and structural fund effectiveness, description of EU regional policy between 2000-2013, methodology using difference-in-differences regressions, results finding no divergence in GDP per capita or disposable income between fully-funded and transitionally-funded regions, and conclusions.
