**Born in Dublin, Ireland.
**Father: grain merchant and
civil servant.
**Mother: professional singer.
**Two sisters.
**Education:
Wesley Colleage Grammar
School and Dublin English
Scientific and Commercial Day
School.

**1876 Went to London to live with his
mother and sisters.
**1898 Married Charlotte Payne-
Townshend, and Irish heiress and
fellow member of the FABIAN Society.
. **1906 they moved into a house in
Hertfordshire, England. Now called

RELIGION: At first: Christian/ Church of Ireland.
Then: a BELIEVER in the CREATIVE REVOLUTION and an
ATHEIST.
Criticism on Religions that "take the form of a cross or any other
instrument of torture or symbol of blood sacrifice.“ (1)
POLITICS: Socialism.
He took after HENRY GEORGE, and thought of sharing
goods, and changing from capitalism to socialism.
Need to pass legislation aiming at EQUALITY.
He managed to be appointed as LOCAL COUNCILLOR to
the LONDON COUNTY COUNCIL as a progressive.

FABIAN SOCIETY: A socialist group which promoted gaining
equal rights for men and women, alleviating abuses of the
working class, rescinding private ownership of productive
land, and promoting healthy lifestyles.
He became an accomplished orator in the furtherance of the F.S.
´s causes.
The F.S. was in favor of EUGENICS.
EUGENICS. Philosophy and alleged science, for
the improvement of human hereditary traits through
manipulation of genes and reduction of reproduction
of less desired people and traits.

**Mixture of serious topics and amusement. He made
people laugh.
**Incisive humour. At the level of Oscar Wilde´s.
**His first great play “MAN AND SUPERMAN” was
performed 1905
**Because of his numerous plays: Second after

**He used to write his work by hand and a secretary
typewrote it afterwards. It led to phonetics creations.

Ironic wit endowed English with the adjective "Shavian", to

**PHONETICS: He created a new phonemic alphabet.
(SHAVIAN ALPHABET).
** Shaw willed a portion of his wealth (£367,233)
to fund the creation of this new phonemic
alphabet.
**He was one of the founders of the LONDON SCHOOL OF
ECONOMICS.
**Awarded with the NOBEL PRIZE in LITERATURE.
(SAINT JOAN, probably). 1925.
**Awarded with an OSCAR (1938). Film: Pigmalion.
**His house now is called “Shaw´s corner” and it is a
museum dedicated to G.B.Shaw.
