The document summarizes various geographic features seen on two trips in the area, including Mormon rocks formed by ancient rivers and earthquakes, granular rocks showing changes over time, a stream bed and San Andreas fault caused by tectonic plates, cinder cones and lava flows from volcanoes, fossil falls from melting glaciers, petroglyphs and house rings from native Americans, metate holes from rocks in rivers, and Mt. Whitney being the highest point in the US. It also discusses Diaz Lake formed by an earthquake, Manzanar housing Japanese immigrants, tufa rocks in Mono Lake, hot springs heated by volcanoes, Convict Lake from glaciers, and mines, lakes, and power generation sites
August 6, 2014 brings Mid Summer’s Night Social, a joint meeting of the Friends of Euclid Creek, the Highland Heights Green Task Force, and the Greenwood Farm Association.
Greenwood Farm straddles Euclid Creek east branch, just below the Euclid bluestone waterfall. At the meeting, we will hike the east branch gorge in the area of the falls.
Greenwood Farm and the nearby Redstone Run Reserve are models for conserving escarpment run (lake-direct) ravines in Euclid and Richmond Heights.

2. Mormon Rocks
Mormon rocks were formed by a
river system hundreds of years age.
In the year 1857 they were formed
by a big earthquake.
3. Granular structure
The granular structure of the
rocks are make of sandstone.
The rocks also show the years
in which the rain and weather
changed.
4. Stream Bed and San Andreas Fault- Caused by
two plates coming together making a fault. North
American and the Pacific Plate
Left side Right side
5. Cinder Hill and Lava Flow
Cinder cones are generally
made of pieces from the
volcano that build up and
make a hill. Not
aggressive
6. Fossil Falls
House Rings- house rings Petroglyph- are from
used as a nest for families.
Clumped together in
native Americans that
communities. have lived near the river.
7. Fossil Falls- are made from melting glaciers from
nearby. They flowed down from the mountains and
into the valley.
These are obsidian flakes these litter
the ground from the natives and the
river that was once here.
Metate Holes formed by rocks in the river
that got stuck and formed a smooth hole.
8. Mt Whitney- elevation is 14,505 feet it is the
highest summit in the united states.
Alluvial Fan and Inyo-
White Mountains
9. Diaz Lake and Lone Pine fault
Diaz lake was formed in 1872 by an earthquake that dropped
the land and water sprung open to release water into the hole.
The Lone Pine earthquake caused a lot of buildings and
houses crumble.
12. Tufa
Made up of calcium carbonate.
There is potassium from the
bottom of the lake fresh water
rises wich result in the tufa.
13. Keoughs Hot Springs
These hotsprings are hot
due to the water going
deep into the earth, were
volcanos are up to the
surfaces. Water is so hot
that it is still heated once
it reaches the surface.
14. Convict Lake
Glaciers from the years past have come down
the mountain. Brining rocks which resulted
in the development of convict lake .
