GENRE- HYBRID
What is a genre hybrid?
•A hybrid genre is a combination of themes and
elements from two or more different types of
genres.
•Genre hybrids often merge two different media
components such as art, music and literature.
The merging of different components allows for
different aspects of each genre to be
interpreted into the film.
When Do Genre Hybrids Occur?
•Hybrids often occur when the author or director
tries to merge two or more genres to best suit
their audience and appeal to more people.
•Merging genres usually makes the work
stronger as it is able to follow the guidelines
and conventions of each genre and therefore
appeal to people who are interested in both the
genres.
Hybrid examples:
• Action/Comedy
• Comedy/Drama
• Romantic/Comedy
• Crime/Fantasy
• Horror/Romance
