This document provides a summary of Genesis 3:15, 21 and 12:1-9 from the Bible. It discusses how God required faith from Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden by laying out a prohibition. After the fall, God responded by beginning the redemption process through the protoevangelium in Genesis 3:15. The document then summarizes how God called Abram to leave his home and promised to make him a great nation, requiring Abram's faith in following God's command. It poses discussion questions about having faith in God's promises and not one's own understanding. The lesson teaches that God gives promises and looks for faith, while redemption comes through Jesus Christ.
There are several lessons we can learn from the life of Abraham as we journey by faith into God's promises. This message highlights some of the important lessons. In our journey of faith we must remember that we are a people in covenant with God, and God is completely committed to us. He will not fail on His side of the covenant.

Having the Faith of Abraham - Genesis 12:1-9David Turner
Abraham left all he had to seek all that he believed God would give him. He is the Father of faith. Download a free PowerPoint of Genesis 12:1-9 at www.Bibleguy.org
This chapter begins with a new revelation of God as El Shaddai to Abram, and continues with God changing Abram's name to Abraham and Sarai's name to Sarah. What relevance do these names have for us today? The chapter closes with God's decree that His Covenant to Abraham will be fulfilled through Isaac and not Ishmael. Understanding this chapter is critical in rightly understanding biblical eschatology, prophecy in general and the conflicts in the MidEast.

In Jude 17-23 Jude shifts from piling up examples of false teachers from the Old Testament to a series of practical exhortations that flow from apostolic instruction. He preserves for us what may well have been part of the apostolic catechism for the first generation of Christ-followers. In these instructions Jude exhorts the believer to deal with 3 different groups of people: scoffers who are "devoid of the Spirit", believers who have come under the influence of scoffers and believers who are so entrenched in false teaching that they need rescue and pose some real spiritual risk for the rescuer. In all of this Jude emphasizes Jesus' call to rescue straying sheep, leaving the 99 safely behind and pursuing the 1.

18. LESSON OBJECTIVE: CBT WEEK ONE FAITH-WALKERS
At the conclusion of this lesson:
Students will understand that the prohibition
given in the garden required man’s faith in the
same way that the promise of redemption
required his faith after he was evicted from the
garden.
Their call to walk with God by faith parallels God’s
call for humans today to believe His Word and
walk in faith.
19. WHERE ARE WE?
Genesis 1:1 (ESV Strong’s) The Creation of
the World
1 In the beginning, God created the
heavens and the earth.
20. WHERE ARE WE?
(FROM CBT)
Begins with God
Creation: garden of Eden
demonstrates God’s goodness and
demands man’s trust
God provides Adam with a task
(“tend and keep the garden”)
Opportunity to trust God when he lays out
one prohibition: ”but of the tree of
knowledge of good and evil"
21. WHERE ARE WE? (FROM CBT)
Adam and Eve started life with an environment
that was perfect
Adam and Eve don’t know fear, shame and
experience no guilt
Genesis 3:5 “God knows when you eat of it your
eyes will be opened…”
God’s responds by starting the redemption
process
22. KEY TRUTHS (FROM CBT)
God’s goodness demands man’s trust; any instruction,
prohibition or promise given is for man’s good
Faith pleases God, Hebrews 11:6, “without faith it is
impossible to please Him…He rewards those who seek
Him”
God requires faith from, before and after the fall
God obligates Himself and His resources to every
promise He makes
23. GENESIS 3:15 (ESV) PROTOEVANGELIUM
15 I will put enmity between you (Satan)
and the woman, and between your
offspring and her offspring; he shall bruise
your head, and you shall bruise his heel.”
24. GENESIS 3:21 (ESV) PICTURE OF REDEMPTION

26. GENESIS 12:1-2 (ESV)
1 Now the Lord said to Abram, “Go from
your country and your kindred and your
father's house to the land that I will show
you. 2 And I will make of you a great nation,
and I will bless you and make your name
great, SO that you will be a blessing.
27. What can you do right now to
express your faith by being a
blessing to someone for God’s
glory?
What is your faith passing on to
those God has placed in your
charge?
28. GENESIS 12:3-4 (ESV)
3 I will bless those who bless you, and him
who dishonors you I will curse, and in you
all the families of the earth shall be
blessed.” 4 So Abram went, as the Lord had
told him, and Lot went with him. Abram was
seventy-five years old when he departed
from Haran.
29. What presumptions are you
making on the Bible to fit your
will?
What are your presumptions
passing on to those around you?
30. Genesis 3:3-5 (ESV Strong's) 3 but God said,
‘You shall not eat of the fruit of the tree that is
in the midst of the garden, neither shall you
touch it, lest you die.’” 4 But the serpent said
to the woman, “You will not surely die. 5 For
God knows that when you eat of it your eyes
will be opened, and you will be like God,
knowing good and evil.”Exogenesis vs.
Hermeneutics
31. GENESIS 12:5-6 (ESV STRONG'S)
5 And Abram took Sarai his wife, and Lot his
brother's son, and all their possessions that they
had gathered, and the people that they had
acquired in Haran, and they set out to go to the
land of Canaan. When they came to the land of
Canaan, 6 Abram passed through the land to the
place at Shechem, to the oak of Moreh. At that time
the Canaanites were in the land.
32. What are you holding onto right
now that says that you have more
faith in yourself than you do in
God?
What is that picture of your life
passing on?
33. GENESIS 12:7-9 (ESV STRONG'S)
7 Then the Lord appeared to Abram and said, “To your
offspring I will give this land.” So he built there an altar
to the Lord, who had appeared to him. 8 From there he
moved to the hill country on the east of Bethel and
pitched his tent, with Bethel on the west and Ai on the
east. And there he built an altar to the Lord and called
upon the name of the Lord. 9 And Abram journeyed on,
still going toward the Negeb.
34. APPLICATION (FROM CBT): WHAT DOES THIS LESSON TEACH US ABOUT GOD? MAN?
SIN? REDEMPTION?
God gives promises and looks
for those who believe Him and
live in light of His promises.
Some do, some do not…
1
Jesus Christ perfectly fulfills
God’s promises of redemption
and picture of redemption.
2
Those who trust in Him are
made righteous by faith, while
those who refuse will perish in
their sin.
3
Foundational principle that should govern every single thing that we do.
1 Corinthians 10:31 (ESV Strong’s), 31 So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.
Susan did an awesome job of walking us through this verse last week and why it is such a big deal.
Get this app…join us in studying the Bible…
- We are in the Creation Era to start out.
You all have been such an encouragement to me as I have been going through this study it is unbelievable. Really…
I was just struck by waiting and God used Stacy’s post to encourage me.
Nora’s post on Enoch lead me to a verse that I will point to here…
Susan and I have had a bunch of conversations about this already…
For some of you, this stuff will just be a refresher…not for me.
Great resource for you all who are getting after it and want to go a little deeper.
January 3rd on Noah…great stuff…
Third Monday in January: All the credit card bills come in from Christmas and you figure out you are the same person you have always been…not the case if you are new in Christ.
Listening to the Bible is a big deal people…if that is the only time you have, that is the only time you have. Do it…
I did it every morning and it was hard at first not to think about other stuff.
Now I almost never listen to the radio.
I am understanding the Bible better this year.
God has a plan…do you? We will see that today…from Genesis 1:1 through Revelation 22:21
That is how we endure…stick to the plan and draw other into it.
Plan your work and then work the plan because there is going to be a lot of wind.
Get after it good people…I know that it is going to be hard and most of you have way more variables than I do to worry about…that doesn’t let you out of God’s Word.
God’s Will
Spiritual Disciplines…you have it in you if you are a Believer you have to be in the Word.
- self-control (the virtue of one who masters his desires and passions, esp. his sensual appetites)
Opportunity to trust God…so obvious at that point.
How many times is that the case though for us? I have been thinking about that a bunch…what would I have done? I cannot even trust God in the minor things before me right now.
Opportunity to trust God…so obvious at that point.
How many times is that the case though for us? I have been thinking about that a bunch…what would I have done? I cannot even trust God in the minor things before me right now.

How many times is that the case though for us? I have been thinking about that a bunch…what would I have done? I cannot even trust God in the minor things before me right now.
God promises to redeem man…
Sin brings and immediate confrontation and separation from God…up until this point they have been in constant fellowship with God but now Adam and Eve are hiding…
Pro-tev-Anne-G-lium: https://youtu.be/KSOOeIdUYqU
Adam and Eve eyes are open and they cover themselves with fig leaves.
God replaces the fig leaves but does so at the cost of the lives of innocent animals.
This is the picture of hope that Adam and Eve will cling to going forward.
This was a big deal to me because it links everything together for me right now…never read the Bible that way before…
God laid out a plan…
We wrecked it...
God is going to get the glory…
Our job is to give him glory by having faith in Him alone...
I will…there is a patience/faith in God and who He is that comes with His promises to us…
Patience/waiting on God is not the same as doing nothing…
I know that I will not be the Head Football Coach at Willowridge forever…I don’t know what that is going to look like, but I know right now that without a shadow of doubt that is what I am called to be doing.
How can I bless people…seek the welfare of them, in a way that gives God glory right now?
- He’s 75 years old at this time…it doesn’t matter
Reflection Jesus or Adam here?
Reflection of Jesus or Satan here?
Reflection Jesus or Adam here?
Reflection of Jesus or Satan here?
- The Canaanites were in the land? What…God told Abram the land would be his and when he gets there it is inhabited…What?!?
- Reflection Jesus or Adam here?
Another ”I will” here…again, there is a patience/endurance that reveals the sort of faith that gives God glory…
Who is Abram trusting in right now?
He forgets pretty quick though right? Once when he is Abram another time when he is Abraham…
Opportunity to trust God…so obvious at that point.
How many times is that the case though for us? I have been thinking about that a bunch…what would I have done? I cannot even trust God in the minor things before me right now.
Reading the Bible instead of working on one more thing?
Focus is a big deal for me…need to stay in my lane until God gives me another lane.
We need to get tighter on Financial Peace. We are extremely blessed and it is very easy for us to lose focus.
Doing life with Believers and non-believers is where we have been hit in the heart the most.
