The initial appearance of the
website is the pink and black
colour palette. This may
appear different to a new
audience, but for the
audience who is already
aware of BBC3 and their
productions will recognise to
be their branding.
This branding is also used at
the beginning of the
documentary itself, so
therefore is a hint for the
audience to visit the website
for more information.
The title of the documentary is a rule
of 3. This makes the documentary
memorable for the audience, and is
certainly something I would like to
emulate.
The BBC website has clear links
to iPlayer for the audience to
look further into what they
have to offer. It features a
button on the main image to
take the audience to iPlayer to
begin the documentary,
enabling watching online as
well as on television, as per the
timetable to the right.
The use of the BBC3 logo becomes
recognisable as a symbol, that is
also used online and in
documentaries as branding.
Main image
 The main image of the website is one of the
‘Bradford Girls’ from the documentary.
 She maintains a direct mode of address and along
with a confident facial expression and lack of
smile it represents to the audience how she is to
be respected.
 The use of the black and white background
compared to the girl influences her importance
and focus on the bat and ball she has in hand.
 The use of BBC3 focusing their documentary on an
all Asian cricket team shows multiculturalism to
the audience by promoting inclusivity and
celebrating their success. It presents less of a
hegemonic view which is more attractive to a
wider audience.
The Copy
 The copy of the website is a detailed explanation about the members of the all
Asian cricket team. It offers background knowledge about their lives, and show
showing realism to the audience and their true identity behind just being teenage
schoolgirls.
 The final paragraph:
“Cricket means so much to each of the girls for
different reasons. It is their freedom and
independence. It is their rebellion against what
is expected of them. But it was the structure of
school that bound them together and made them
train every day. It was their excuse to be out of
the house without their parents. If they don't
train regularly, they will jeopardise their
chances of winning. Now school is over, will the
team stay united to play their final
tournament?”
The use of this enigma at
the end of the writing
influences the audience’s
engagement to watch the
documentary to find out
what happens to the team
and if they win.
The documentary and
website shows great
importance about the
students going against their
own stereotypes, and so
shows a different perspective
to normal TV shows which
generally adhere to them.
Other features of the website
 There are many additional features that may be
attractive to the audience
 A playlist of the music featured throughout the
documentary is an interesting aspect but also fulfils the
remit of entertainment, as music is a big part of the 16-
25 age group.
 The use of allowing the audience to view related stories
and documentaries allows further engagement online and
through their app BBC iPlayer.
BBC as a Public service broadcaster (PSB)
 The use of cookies is interestingly used by BBC’s website as it allows the website
to store information about the audience and their interaction and as a PSB, the
BBC will be wanting to fulfil their remit, to educate, entertain and inform so they
will want to know information about their audience to present the best for them.
 The BBC can be clearly seen to be showing multiculturalism across their platforms
and promoting equality by using an all Asian cricket team, instead of the typical
hegemonic group that hold the power within society.
 The BBC allows many way for the audience to get involved if they are interested,
or visit other documentaries that are linked to the show.
 It fulfils the remit of ‘to educate, inform and entertain’ in many ways throughout
the documentary and its accompanying website. Some ways are such as educating
about breaking stereotypes, the sport cricket itself and entertainment within the
documentary.
