- 2. TYPES OF MUSIC VIDEO • Illustrative - Tells a story and often performance based. Typically about love or romance. • Amplification – A director interprets a music video in their own way by using their own creative ideas, whilst still having a direct link to the song. • Conceptual – Very abstract, often not related to the lyrics of the song.
- 3. CAMERAWORK • Often jumps from long shots to close ups and extreme close ups. The close ups are usually on the lead singer and the band and extreme close ups are usually of the singer lip syncing. • Camera movement – Whip pans, fast dolly tracks and fast overhead crane shots often used to follow the running, dancing or walking of performers.
- 4. EDITING • Often goes along with the tempo of the song. However some pieces decide to go against this convention. • For example, fast paced editing may be used in fast tempo songs in order to keep the flow of the video.
- 5. LIGHTING • Expressive lighting is a key feature in most music videos. Extreme artificial lighting helps to create the ‘bleaching’ effect on pop stars faces. Lighting effects such as strobes or flashing lights often used.
