● Specifically, the topic being further discussed in the
photo walk is the concept of “edge cities”
Palen
● Palen discusses Garreau’s idea’s about edge cities
○ They must have “at least 5 million square feet of leasable office space”
○ “At least 600,000 square feet of retail space”
○ Edge cities fall within 3 large changes of metro areas of the last 50 years
Why Edge Cities?
● I chose this topic because I
believe the Town of Niagara
could be considered an edge city
due to:
○ The Fashion Outlets Mall
making up a majority of
retail space
○ Big retail plazas around the
area

○ Monday-Saturday - 10 am to 9 pm
○ Sunday - 11 am to 6 pm

What I learned from this experience:
● Being a resident of the Town of Niagara area, this photo walk experience
gave me the chance to identify topics in the textbook, and relate them to the
world I live in
● Taking notes and photographs helped to enhance my knowledge of the
readings and also helped me put titles to certains parts of Western New
York, which I was curious about all my life
