India ranked 135th out of 146 countries in the 2022 global gender gap report, scoring lowest in health and survival (rank 146) and economic participation and opportunity (rank 143). The report measures gender equality across four key dimensions - economic participation, educational attainment, health and survival, and political empowerment. To close the gender gap, experts recommend educating all girls, encouraging more women in politics, changing attitudes towards gender roles, helping women get formal sector jobs, mandating paternity leave, conducting bias training, and studying Iceland's success in achieving gender equality.
