The document provides an overview of GemStone Systems and their GemStone/S 64-bit object database. It discusses the motivation for moving to 64-bit, the two-phase project to do so, key features and improvements in each phase, and some example customers using the 64-bit version in production. Phase 1 focused on exploiting the 64-bit address space while phase 2 added 64-bit object identifiers to support far greater object volumes and database sizes. Future releases are planned to improve performance further with multi-threaded garbage collection and other optimizations.
