1. THE IMPACT OF IT
on Productivity and Quality of Life
CHAPTER 09
2. IT Investment and
Productivity
IT has been a key factor in fostering
innovation, which is a major factor in
raising productivity. Progressive
management teams leverage IT and
other new technologies, together with
capital expenditure, to implement
changes in products, services, and
procedures.
3. THE DIGITAL DIVIDE
The difference between people who have access to
contemporary ICTs (internet and smartphones) and
those who do not is known as the "digital divide." Even
though there are over 2.4 billion internet users
worldwide, their distribution varies by location.

4. HOW PHILIPPINES CATCH UP?
The government of the Philippines is concentrating on enhancing the
telecommunications infrastructure in order to overcome the substantial digital
divide in the country. The difficulties, which include red tape, have impeded
advancement. The National Broadband Network is being developed under the
direction of the Department of Information and Communications Technology,
with an emphasis on giving internet connectivity in rural areas priority. Based
on the broadband data survey by the National Telecommunications
Commission and the geographical strategy of the National Economic and
Development Authority, the plan seeks to bring internet connection to
important cities and provinces by 2022, with a focus on underserved areas.

6. e-FILIPINO
By constructing Community eCenters (CeCs), the DOST-ICTO uses ICT to promote
community growth and development in the Philippines as part of the UN's
Millennium Development Goal of providing ICT access to everyone. These centers
offer alternate learning and skill training to each community, meeting the
expectations of numerous persons in the IT space. Additionally, by creating job
possibilities, it hopes to prepare the special needs sector for impact sourcing and
ITpreneurship.
7. National Connectivity
Connectivity is recognized as a growth engine on a global scale. A World Bank study
found that a developing nation's GDP (GDP) increased by 1.27 percent for every 10%
rise in broadband penetration. But a lot of the country and a lot of Filipinos are still
somehow cut off. This matter is handled in the
program.
8. e-Government Harmonization
e-Government (eGov) is critical to the success of the MDP and thePresident's Social
Contract. The Philippines is now ranked 95th in theworld in terms of eGovernment.
This initiative intendsto raise our ranking to 50 or higher by tackling critical
challenges such as interoperability and efficiency through legislative innovations
as well as strategic infrastructure improvements.
9. e-Civil Servants
The ICT Office is responsible for administering and managing ICT Competency-
based Training Programs in partnership with public and private training institutions,
as well as Subject Matter Experts (SME's). The courses are divided into three
categories: e- Government Management, Application Development, and Technology
Solutions. This Initiative also intends to improve the digital capabilities of
government personnel.
10. ICT Enabled Startup
This is a newprogram that encourages the spirit of entrepreneurship and leverages
the use of ICT to effect change and give answers to challenges in many sectors and
society at large by assisting in theformation of technology companies.
11. Healthcare Information Technology (HIT)
The most common examples of healthcare information
technology include e-prescriptions, electronic health
records (EHRs), and other digital tools that help patients
attain health objectives like monitoring blood sugar
levels or quitting smoking. With the use of information
technology, more precise EHRs and EMRs are now
possible, giving patients quick and easy access to a
range of medical facilities. Additionally, through a variety
of mobile applications and information platforms, giving
people greater authority over their medical care.
12. Impacts of ICT on Mobility
ICT has a complex effect on mobility that
includes generation of movement,
substitution of information flow for physical
travel, and modifications to origin,
destination, method, or route. The result is
impacted by the social and geographic
context of migration, and the transportation
industry is expected to be impacted.

13. Impact of Information Technology on Education
The symbiotic relationship between education and technology is recognized as
a fundamental driver of human development. The dynamic interplay between
education and information technology leads to continuous advancements in
methodology, purpose, and the perceived potential of education.

accurate data analysis and strategic planning, optimizing profits. Its influence
extends across various business aspects, enhancing efficiency and decision-
making processes.
