This study examined perceptions of different family types, including gay stepfamilies, lesbian stepfamilies, heterosexual stepfamilies, and biological families. Undergraduate students read brief descriptions of these family types and rated them using a questionnaire. The results found that biological families were perceived as less active than the other family types. Biological families were also seen as more stable than heterosexual stepfamilies. Additionally, lesbian stepfamilies were rated as more satisfying/secure than heterosexual stepfamilies. The study provides insight into perceptions of diverse family structures.
