Gay pride or LGBT pride is the attitude against violence towards the lesbian, gay, bisexuals, and transgender, or LGBT community. Gay pride parades
celebrate the acceptance and diversity in the LGBT community. Although Pride was considered immoral and was originally a riot, it is now considered
a celebration of togetherness and acceptance for the LGBT community.
As I made my way to the parade I saw all the flags from different countries representing Pride. The rainbow flag was placed all over stores, clubs, and

I saw an officer from the Navy engaging in a skit with a drag queen. The drag queen walks towards the soldier telling him to accept the LGBT
community. When the soldier nods, the drag queen takes off her clipped earring and places it on the ear of the soldier. The skit shows how much the
armed forces are open to the LGBT community, and it made me smile. Then I saw a group of people who wore pride shirts. Shirts like "Gay and
Proud", "Les and Proud", "Trans and Proud" we're worn, and they had shirts that were throwing and giving away for free. I wouldn't lie if I said I
got a "Pan and Proud" shirt during the parade. Finally, I then saw drag queen impersonators on a float lip syncing to music, everyone was joining in
with them and dancing in the street to the music. Everyone was together having a party in the street, and we all made our way into the parade behind
the drag queen float, singing and dancing their way to the park for the rest of Pride.
As I looked around at Pride, I noticed that everyone is very inviting. They are all friendly, talk to each other, hug, take pictures, and dance with each

The Change Into Pop Culture Through Media And Other Forms
Raunchy Liberation Raunchiness has worked its way into pop culture through media and other forms. Which brings up the question: can
raunchiness be empowering? Levy looks at how a portion of women are raunchy, and she found that its use can be almost derading to some women.
This viewpoint is made obvious when she finishes her article with "[i]t is worth asking ourselves if this bawdy world of boobs and gams we have

sufficient strength in numbers to resist harassment"(Boslaugh 1). Due to the pride and confidence acquired from the Stonewall Riots, a movement of

frowned upon but also illegal could allude to the idea that "effeminacy", an alternative form of masculinity; where a man displays traits that are often

into place that prohibited gross indecency between men and to prosecute said men when sodomy could not be proven.
Ten years later acclaimed author of Dorian Gray and The Importance of Being Earnest Oscar Wilde, was convicted on twelve counts of sodomy

Mexico is a part of my cultural identity, My family and I are all Catholics I was raised to belief in God and La Virgen de Guadalupe. Not only that
but both of my parents are from Oaxaca, Mexico. They were born and raised in a small town close to Huitzo. A big celebration for us Mexicans is
Celebrating Los Quince anos this is a big deal and is mostly meant for girls. A Quinceanera is to celebrate your daughter's transition from a girl to
a young lady when you reach the age of 15. I got to have a Quinceanera a couple months after my birthday because January is a cold month so we
didn't want that to interfere with the party. Having a Quinceanera takes a year or more to plan because you have to make sure everything is
perfect, not only that but it also isn't cheap at all. There are many things I like to do on my free time but one of them is baking, I have always
thought of myself as a very creative person and honestly my parents think that as well. Baking is one of the many hobbies that lets you express
yourself, baking is fun, not only do you get to decide how it will look but you can make all sort of decorations. I like using icing and making
fondant flowers. Making roses are one of my favorite but it is time consuming to make one, and since I am a perfectionist when it comes to dessert it

While my desire to come out was achieved, it brought unforeseen ramifications. For instance, even though I came out, I was not able to be who I
truly was. I was put into a role and stereotype. Whenever I would try to break that mold and expose myself for who I was, my classmates would turn

Orbe's co–cultural theory in order to understand the issues that arise from the dominant heterosexual community. The co–cultural theory was created in
order to assist in understanding the various ways in which people who are marginalised traditionally in dominant structures of society, communicate
every day. This co–cultural communicative theory is derived from the personal experiences from a range of traditional less privileged cultural groups,
which include women, people of colour, the disabled, people from a lower social economic background and gays, lesbians, bisexuals and transgender
(Orbe & Groscurth, 2006). The co–cultural theory shows an understanding of the ways in which these co–cultural groups discuss their difference in
culture with the wider public. These less privileged cultural groups who were traditionally labelled 'inferior', communicate in a variety of ways such as
using the media and protesting or having their say in a political manner (Cohen & Avanzino 2010). There are three approaches of communication;
non–assertive, assertive and aggressive. There are also three preferred outcomes; assimilation, accommodation and separation (Lapinski & Orbe, 2007).

In, "Homophobia Is Rampant in Professional Sports," Ford speaks about how in male dominated sports coaches or other team players have
tendencies to shame athletes by calling them names such as "sissies" or "girls" (paragraph 1). Ford later talks the causes of homophobia being

The 1960s and early 1970s was a period of social movements for women's rights, African American, and gay rights. The civil rights era brought

Another similarity both Deaf and LGBT share is acts of resistance that make their communities known nationwide. For Deaf people, Deaf President

I think the celebration of LGBT identities in Amsterdam from the article "Gay Men and Lesbians in the Netherlands" by Gert Hekma and Jan Willem
Duyvendak to the movie we watched was an interesting look at LGBT struggles (or lack of struggles) and identities found in the Netherlands in
comparison to the United States. At first glance, from both the movie and the article, Amsterdam just seems like a wild, amazing time for people of all
sexualities. Equality has been reached. Hallelujah! Let's party! Beyond this outward appearance of equality and acceptance, Amsterdam's LGBT culture
must be unpacked and examined beyond just gay people partying a lot like in the documentary. I think the article "Gay Men and Lesbians in the
Netherlands" did a pretty good job of unpacking Amsterdam's LGBT culture but a criticism I have is that the article pretty much forgot bisexuals
and trans people in its analysis of Amsterdam's gay culture. Bi and trans erasure is a thing that regularly occurs in both straight and gay spaces so I
was not surprised by this but it is telling about both the authors and Amsterdam in general. This is a connection that will be addressed because we did

Impact on LGBTQ Youth In Human Rights Campaign survey of over ten thousand LGBT youth from age thirteen to seventeen was found that
don't want to say anything because they think they are not going to be accepted besides the lack of acceptance of LGBTQ youth prevents many

Growing up in a very Republican suburb of Chicago, I hid in the closet until my junior year of high school (2016). I lived with this secret for a long
time and coming out and being true to myself was a scary but joyous process. This picture symbolizes the happiness of embracing and enjoying
who you are on the inside. Everything in this picture ties back to the theme of pride. Upon reverse searching this image on google, I found out that
it was taken on June 26th of 2016 at the Chicago pride parade by Michael Tercha for the Chicago Tribune and published the following year
(Chicago Tribune). This picture led me to the question: How does this image of happiness within a gay pride parade portray the wider acceptance

June, which has been designated as "Gay & Lesbian Pride Month" has been nationally established since June 2, 2000 when then sitting President Bill
Clinton declared it as such. President Trump has made no such declarations since he has been in office signifying this month as one to honor the gay,

Contextual Factors Affecting Events Management
Contextual factors in events management refers to different characteristics that can play into the way that events are conceived, planned or delivered.
These characteristics can impact the success or failure of an event and therefore need to be taken in consideration throughout the events planning
process. They can be categorised into six main areas including social, environmental, legal, political, physical, technological and organisational. Using
The Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras (SGLMG) as an example, I will identify three of these contextual factors that would need to be considered
when conceiving, planning and delivering an event such as the Mardi Gras.
The Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras is a non–for profit organisation that organises the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Parade annually. The
parade aims to "raise the visibility of the lesbian, gay bisexual, transgender, queer and intersex communities". This mission is achieved by the
organisation through allowing individuals to use the event to promote pride in sexuality as well as sending a wider message of diversity and
acceptance. Though the event is considered now considered a mainstream festival and includes over 10000 participants, it originally began as a
political protest in 1978 where participants marched in show of support to the National Homosexual conference as well as San Francisco's Gay
Freedom Day. During this event participants were violently reprimanded by the police. During the months

Causes Of The Stonewall Riots
Another cause of the riots was the mistreatment of the arrested patrons from the police. The patrons taunted the police as they were paraded out into
the streets to the wagon waiting to transport them to the police station. As the patrons left the Inn, they struck poses towards the crowd as the people
showered the police and arrested with coins. One notable drag queen, stopped and posed, only to get pushed roughly into the wagon by police. This is
when the crowd noticeably got angrier, and began to throw trash and stones. (Truscott).
"A number of incidents were happening simultaneously. There was no one thing that happened or one person, there was just... a flash of group, of

Throughout US History, LGBTQ+ people have faced violence and discrimination not just from their fellow Americans, but from our government as
well, leading to a timeline of hiding in shame, silence, and suffering prejudice with little to no outcry. The earliest colonies made sure to criminalize
sodomy with punishments being as harsh as death, most famously the Virginia and Connecticut colonies. The 1800s saw extreme backlash against the
first American publishings with queer characters and plotlines, as well as the term "crime against humanity" first used in the US criminal code in part
against homosexuals. Crossdressing was seen worthy of imprisonment and corporal punishment. Tighter and tighter restrictions were placed on the

Often when we think of American civil rights history, we picture the African American struggle for equality; we think of famous court cases like Brown
v. Board, a milestone in ending segregation in public schools; we think of Dr. King and the NAACP's efforts to organize the black community through
speeches, boycotts, and peaceful protests. But often times, when we discuss civil rights history in classrooms we tend to overlook the discrimination

inequality through more radical means; thus setting into motion the beginnings of modern American LGBT rights activism and Gay Pride. Before this
major shift in gay rights activism, during the Great Depression, several experimental programs, collectively known as The New Deal, created new
jobs; and thousands of Americans came flocking to the capital in search of work. Many of these citizens were gay folks hoping to escape

A rainbow flag raised outside the old Student Union Building by the Pride Collective was discovered burnt during University of British Columbia's
OUTweek. OUTweek is an annual event that the Pride Collective constructs in order to celebrate and show support to gay community. The Pride
Collective and the university responded immediately to this incident by making statements of condemnation. Although most of the scheduled events
were held successfully, Fuck the Cis–tem March was cancelled due to consideration of protecting individuals that could be potentially harmed. In one
of the best universities in the country where open–minded education is performed, it is appalling to see such extreme behavior. Thus, in my opinion,
Canada is less open to non–heterosexual community than we thought.
