Gay Marriage And Equal Rights For Same-Sex Marriage
As of today, the world is constantly becoming more modern. Social issues of the past are nothing
like they are now. Controversies, like equal rights for gays and lesbians, are being debated and
resolved as the world advances. Now that gays and lesbians have the same civil rights as a straight
man or woman, many states are wondering if homosexuals should be afforded the right to marry the
same gender. Same sex marriage is becoming an important topic in America which holds a great
deal of attention; while many people and organizations encourage and uphold the right to a same sex
wedding, there are still those who refuse to stand behind it. Same sex couples are often faced with
discrimination and hate from people who do not share the same beliefs; however, regardless of what
rivals say, same sex couples still proudly support homosexual marriage. In her article about a lesbian
couple whom were finally able to be married after several months of being hated against, Liz Hayes
writes, "Abramovich and Brookover said they realize some people have objections to same–sex
couples' being afforded equal rights... 'We don't go around flaunting it in front of everyone; we
weren't being like, 'We're here, and we're going to be gay whether you like it or not,'" (Hayes). Many
homophobes think that if they just throw curses at homosexuals that they will turn away from their
'wicked' ways. While being cursed may work on some (perhaps insecure) gays or lesbians, most find
it to be a motivation to

Should Homosexuals Have The Same Rights?
Should homosexuals have the same rights as heterosexuals? Regardless of same sex marriage being
legal in America, homosexuals have fewer rights than heterosexuals. All people deserve to obtain
the same rights and respect regardless of who they choose to love. People are getting disrespected
and mistreated all over America, because of which sex they choose to marry. Whether or not one
agrees with a person's sexual orientation or not, it does not give them a right to disrespect and
mistreat them. Would it be fair to tell a man and a woman who were in love and legally married, that
they are not allowed to adopt a child together? People, who are in love and legally married, are often
not allowed to adopt a child, for the sole reason that they married the same sex. Married people,
regardless of whom they've chosen to marry, have the right to adopt children. Humans that are
married to the same sex frequently get denied the right to adopt children as a couple. "However,
one–third of agencies would reject a gay or lesbian applicant." Turning married people down, who
would raise, love and parent a child, solely based upon the couples same sex preference, proves an
injustice and unfairness to that couple. Same sex couples have the right to marry, which should give
them the right to adopt children. Homosexuals should have the right to adopt. By allowing
homosexuals the right to adopt, we are giving more children homes. The main concern with
homosexuals becoming parents by

Gay Marriage And The Right Of Same Sex Marriage
In the United States, there is a communal controversy regarding the right of same–sex marriage. I
decided to explore the views of two different authors who contrast each other. British Author,
Andrew Sullivan writes the essay, "For Gay Marriage" about equal rights on marriages for same–sex
couples. William J. Bennett composes the essay, "Against Gay Marriage" giving his views on why
couples of the same sex should not be allowed to engage in marital relations. Sullivan supports the
idea of gay marriages while Bennett opposes the idea. Referring to the article in the "Moral Issues"
book.... Page...give examples from there. Every human being has emotional needs and different
interests, giving rise to diverse and conflicting opinions on gay marriage dealing with social issues,
domestic partnership and religious viewpoints. Marriage is a statement of love and commitment; it
is the key to a pursuit of happiness. Homosexuals have identical emotional needs and temptations as
heterosexuals and there is no reason marriage should be permitted to one class and not the other.
Sullivan is a strong believer that gay and lesbian couples should be treated as equals in society and
no different than anyone else. Many people are afraid of the effects same–sex marriages could have
on our culture. Sullivan explains that gay men and women are no different from anyone else in
society as far as political and moral beliefs, so they deserve equal opportunity. Sullivan stays strong
in emphasizing that

Same Sex Rights And Human Rights
LGBTQ rights have been at the center of debate for many years now. Some argue that people have
the right to love whomever they choose to, regardless of gender, while others argue that same sex
rights are a disgrace to human kind. Nevertheless, how you regard to the validity of any human right
depends on which moral theory you practice. For instance, if you practice deontological or virtue
ethics theories, you are more likely to believe that human rights, such as same sex marriage, are
natural rights that enable human flourishing. On the contrary, if you embrace Marx's or even
Bentham's rejection of rights, you might believe that "natural rights" are nonsense. Even more so, if
you are a Utilitarian, you might agree with Marx's theory that rights are nonsense; however, you
differ in believing that they are useful if they produce the best consequences. The American
Declaration of Independence stresses the importance of freedom and equality; therefore, LGBTQ
rights should not be alienated. Those who consider themselves a part of that community have all the
right to practice their preferences. A view adopted by Thomas Nagel, is that we must respect values
that people have because they just have them, so why not let this group be? In addition, rights are
things put in place to protect people's interests and ability to flourish. Consequently, if you suppress
the LGBTQ community, you are not allowing them to grow into the person they so naturally are
meant to be. Instead, you force

Does The Lgbt Community Deserve The Same Rights
Same–Sex Couples and the LGBT Community Deserve Equal Treatment
Imagine being in love with someone and not being able to express your feelings for one another
without being discriminated against. Approximately 64% of the LGBT community are treated un–
equal to heterosexuals. Same–Sex couples and the LGBT community deserve the same rights as
opposite sex couples and heterosexuals.
People should be allowed to love who they love without persecution or condemnation. The real
problem is how we view the moral, legal and religious issues that surround homosexuals. Morality
is how individuals determine what they believe is right or wrong. People are brought up to believe
and value different things. Because there are so many different beliefs, we depend on our legal
system to determine what is right and wrong. Fortunately, the legal system is being more supportive
of gay and lesbian couples. It is becoming more obvious, that the right thing to do morally is allow
same–sex couples to marry and live without bias. It is morally wrong to deprive people of happiness
because of who they love. There are legal issues that complicate the lives of couples that are not
considered legally married. For instance, if your partner was in the hospital dying, you would not be
allowed visitation because you are not legally considered their spouse. If they were to die, the
partner would not have any legal right over such things as the funeral or property rights.
Our society is extremely

Same Sex Marriage And Gay Rights
State legislatures, voters and more recently the courts have made sweeping changes over the past
two decades in laws defining whether marriage is limited to relationships between a man and a
woman or is extended to same sex couples. Gay marriage and gay rights are a major controversy in
the world today. It is a constant debate on whether or not traditional marriage is out–of–date and that
a new way is better. Although many believe in gay rights, it is difficult to support something that is
against the foundation of America, and something that is harmful to the people of America.
The Founding Fathers envisioned a government that would promote and encourage Christianity. The
founding fathers wanted a firm foundation of Christianity in America; they wanted to serve God,
and they wanted America to be protected by God's hand. The Declaration of Independence; The
Paris Peace Treaty of 1783, and the Constitution are three examples that the founding fathers based
this country on Christianity. The Declaration of Independence says, "Laws of Nature and of Nature's
God... Appealing to the Supreme Judge of the World... With a firm Reliance on the Protection of
Divine Providence." The Declaration states that Nature's God, the Supreme Judge, and Protection of
Divine Providence notice all are capitalised. Many argue this those quotes are in relation with gods,
but not the Almighty God; however, the Christian God, Jesus The Messiah, is always capitalized.
The Constitution states that, "Done

Republicans believe in freedom, but only freedom that is God given, and affirmed by our Founding

The Fight For Equal Rights For Same Sex Marriages Across...
The Fight for Equal Rights for Same–Sex Marriages across the United States Having one loving
parent is good. Having two loving parents is great. Having a mother and a father is traditional.
Having two mothers or two fathers is wrong. This is what we are told to believe but as we learn
from our past and grow as a society, we start to look for positive change in which our values are
challenged and the truth becomes clear. It is not right to take away the basic rights of a person
because of their sexual orientation. It is not right for a homosexual couple to be at a disadvantage
and lack financial security because of who they choose to love. It's true, marriage is sacred but it
does not have to be defined as a union between one–man–one–woman. Truth is sexual orientation
should not be a factor in regards to government protection of the basic rights of the people.
According to the Gallup survey "...approximately .3 percent (.3%) of U.S. adults are married to a
same–sex spouse, a mere .5 percent (.5%) identify as being in a same–sex domestic partnership and,
of the estimated .8 percent (.8%) of the total U.S. adult population that are a part of a same–sex
couple, 780,000 are married." (Morris, "Gallup: Less Than 1% of Adult Population Part of a Same–

Same Sex Marriage And Equal Rights Essay
Before the issue of same–sex marriage and equal rights are approached, marriage must be defined.
Marriage is a consensual, exclusive and lifelong commitment between one man and one woman,
expressed in a physical union uniquely designed to produce and nurture children (Same–Sex
"Marriage" Public Policy Statement, 2016). Marriage is both ubiquitous and central. All across our
country, in every region, every social class, every race and ethnicity, every religion or non–religion,
people get married. For many if not most people, moreover, marriage is not a trivial matter. It is a
key to the pursuit of happiness, something people aspire to–and keep aspiring to, again and again,
even when their experience has been far from happy (Nussbaum, 2009).
Marriage, it soon becomes evident, is no single thing. It is plural in both content and meaning. First,
marriage has a civil rights aspect. Married people get a lot of government benefits that the
unmarried usually do not get: favorable treatment in tax, inheritance, and insurance status;
immigration rights; rights in adoption and custody; decisional and visitation rights in health care and
burial; the spousal privilege exemption when giving testimony in court; and yet others. Marriage
has, second, an expressive aspect. When people get married, typically a statement of love and
commitment in front of witnesses is stated. Finally, marriage has a religious aspect. Government
plays a key role in all three aspects of marriage. It confers and

Civil Rights And Same Sex Marriage
Civil rights and same sex marriage is a topic I would love to write my senior paper about. I am very
interested in this because especially now, it seems to be all any one is talking about. I go onto
Facebook and see friends who have changed their profile pictures to the gay rights equality sign or
the gay pride flag. It seems to be everywhere I look. However, my question is, if homosexuality is
all around us why is it so hard for people to accept? I understand religion and conservatives and
different upbringings and all that, but if two boys or two girls are in love, who are we to stop that
and why are people so against it? Who gave the government the power to say "No, That is wrong,
you cannot do that." This could be considered as a liberal point of view, but it does not seem right to
me that if my best friend falls in love with another male, he cannot marry him. I am interested in this
topic because I want to know more about how the government got all this power and why they
choose to use it against the people. The government is supposed to protect us, and by not allowing
two people to get married they are doing the exact opposite. The government is bringing more
attention and negativity to gay people and hurting them more than helping. The public, including
me, want a better understanding of what they are doing and why they are doing it. I would like to
figure out what their plan is because, obviously, public opinions are changing, and the government

03–28–15 The Right
Same sex marriage is a topic today that brings strong moral objections from both sides. Should same
sex marriage be allowed? Should these humans be given the same rights in their relationship as
heterosexual couples? Why restricted these citizens from their right just because of their love
interest? Should we take certain customs away from foreigners just because it's not customs we
perform? The United States is a land of the free not the restricted. We are not robots set to one
program and one program alone every human being is an individual and they all do things their own
way. If you were in their position you would want the same thing, to be happy. Homosexual couples

Some say that "love is blind," and they are right. Love is between the souls of two people, whether it
be : a black male and white female, a black female and an Asian male, or male and another male
love has no boundaries. When it happens and you fall in love, what do you do next? Well you pursue
them of course! Why let your dreams fall apart just because of your soul mate ends up being the
same sex as you. Then you find out it's hopeless to purse your full dream it's not legal to marry.
Marriage belongs to everyone, it's what we all wish for why rip that from someone. Why would you
rip it away from yourself? A legal parent is defined as a person who has the right to live with a child
and make decisions about the child's education, well being and health. Legal parents must also
support their children financially. When a heterosexual married couple has a child both parents are
automatically considered to be the child's legal parents. Even if the couple divorces, both parents
still are legal parents of the child unlike homosexual couples who have to go through the legal
system to find out the fate of the child. Some people say that children need a mother and a father to
raise us; to provide both viewpoints of gender: masculinity, femininity and all the issues those entail.
However, there are many who believe that gender does not matter when parenting.

The Right of All: Legalize Same-Sex Marriage Essay
Imagine a world where it was completely shameful to like the opposite sex. If someone found out
about a heterosexual couple or just people playing around, they would get abused, bullied, attacked,
just because of the people they choose to be with. The whole United States or maybe just a single
state would be against them. They couldn't go to church without getting judge by people who should
be the most understanding, but because one man, who lived just over 2,000 years ago, wrote in a
book that it's a sin to love someone of the same sex. People live that live everyday of their lives,
except opposite. The big question about same–sex marriage is if it should be legal or not, and why?

Why Same Sex Marriage Is Morally Right And Should Be...
What is marriage about? Who is marriage for? What are some of the complications with marriages
in today's society? How does religion plays a major part in marriage? According to Toby L. Ditz,
"Marriage laws have historically withheld and continue to withhold the right to marry and the legal
privileges associated with marriage from whole classes of people: slaves, interracial couples, and
gay partners (Ditz, 2001,500)". The way marriage is viewed in this newer generation differs
significantly from the past. People's observations and opinions on matrimony and its true meaning
have changed extensively. Marriage is not less valued currently, but it 's definitely being viewed
differently, for homosexuals especially. Within this research, we are going to examine why same sex
marriage is morally right and should be legally recognized.
Traditionally, according to Barnes he mentioned that the greatest amount of people in the United
States believe that a traditional marriage entails, "Brides wearing their long elegant white dresses,
flowers, music, attendants in matching clothes, and a ceremony with a ring exchange, which is
followed by a reception with a tiered cake" (Barnes, 2014,62). Furthermore, matrimony has also
been looked upon as a main purpose for building a foundation and stabilizing a home and a family.
Back in the biblical days, most of the women had to depend on their husbands to provide and
support them. Their main role at that time was to take care of the children,

In a 2011 survey by the Williams Institute, 3.5% of all adults in the United States identified as either
lesbian, gay, or bisexual, implying that there are nearly 9 million LGB individuals (Gates 1). Despite
this, same–sex marriage is only legalized in seventeen out of fifty states, as well as the District of
Columbia (Freedom to Marry). In thirty–three states, the government has decided that it has the
power to intervene in who its citizens want to marry and love, as if they could decide our friends and
family. Though the question is often "Why should same–sex marriage be legalized?" no one seems
to wonder "Why should I, or anyone else, have the power to choose who marries who?" Same–sex

Another found that the children of gay men were just as sound in health and mind as the adopted
children of heterosexual couples (Farr, Forssell, and Patterson 175). However, we unfortunately live
in a country where there are more children wanting to be adopted than there are couples willing to
adopt. A Washington Post columnist argues "We should be begging gay couples to adopt children.
We should see this as a great boon that gay marriage could bring to kids who need nothing more
than two loving parents." (Klein) Same–sex marriage can also bring financial gain to the
government. Weddings are lucrative to the restaurant, hotel, catering, and travel industries. An
estimated net gain of $142 million is expected to happen within three years of legalizing same–sex
marriage in New York City, and a gain of $184 million to the State's economy (Thomspon 2).
Considering that these statistics only encompass New York, the total revenue from legalizing same–
sex marriage throughout the U.S. would be tremendous. By legalizing same–sex marriage in all 50
states, there is expected to be a positive economic impact of $1 billion over the next three years

justified celebration by many Americans. However, it is important to understand and work towards
getting rid of prejudice that many lgb persons still plaguing their lives. Although many Americans
hold the belief that the legalization of same sex marriage results in lgb individuals no longer

individuals continue to suffer and how religious extremists and extremist organizations often
promote such inequality and prevent lgb individuals from obtaining the rights and respect in today's
society that they are deserving of, and then put forth the effort to be rid of discrimination and
prejudice towards individuals based on sexuality. In order to create a better society it is imperative
that we allow religious freedom but do not use religious freedom to excuse harmful discrimination
against minorities, specifically the lgb community. By making continued efforts to rid our society of
prejudice, we gain creating a more moral and beneficial society.

Same Sex Marriage Is Right Or Wrong?
In recent years, the topic of whether same–sex marriage is right or wrong has created a controversy.
People should not feel coerced to agree with something they believe is wrong; clearly, same–sex
marriage is immoral and unnatural. Many complications come with same–sex marriages including
financial pressures, social pressures, moral pressures, and health risks. Many people believe in a
traditional marriage between a man and a woman. God created man and woman to be faithful,
produce children, and replenish the Earth; therefore, this can't be accomplished in a homosexual
society. Same–sex marriage is contrary to the word of God and the laws of nature; therefore, it is
incompatible with the beliefs, sacred texts, and traditions of many religious groups. Many biblical
scriptures talk about the immorality of same–sex relationships. For example, Leviticus 18:22 states,
"Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination". Marriage is a privilege,
not a right. It is not correct to redefine marriage away from the original meaning. The founders of
Chick–fil–a took a stand on their Christian beliefs and closed their stores nationwide on Sundays
allowing their employees to attend church and spend time with their families. They also created a
media frenzy by taking a stand against same–sex marriage with an unprecedented amount of support
from the straight community. It was extremely difficult and took quite some time to successfully

Same Sex, Same Rights
Same Sex, Same Rights
The sexual preference of people should not determine their acceptance in society. People should be
open to understand the union of two individuals of the same sex. The term of marriage has changed
over time. What historically was conceived as a man and a woman union should not restrain people
from adapting this concept. Many people believe that the marriage between two same–sex couples is
not natural. Marriage should be based on love, regardless of sex, color or religion. Marriage is a
civil and Constitutional right that grants anyone the right to be happy. Through the laws, they have
the power to separate the church from the state. With these on their power, gays and lesbians have
enough power to receive the same marriage and legal benefit as heterosexual couples.
Marriage is a constitutional right protected in the United States of America. The right of freedom,
pursuit of happiness well defines the search of same sex couples of laws that will allow them to

heterosexual couples. The fourteenth amendment brings equal rights and protections to all before the

The Rights Of Same Sex Couples
The rights of same–sex couples is a big controversy currently, and although there are still many in
opposition, the number of supporters increases regularly. Not only do most opposing take a religious
standpoint, but they also claim is have a negative effect on "real marriage" and that same–sex
households cannot provide the necessary parenting needed to properly raise a child. Not only do
most advocates feel that some of the opposing arguments make no sense, but also that others are
based off of sole assumption rooted in personal agenda. Also, the most important aspect of and
reasoning for marriage is love, and it is unfair to deny same–sex couples the right to prove and
commit to their love. Based on the first Amendment, the Bible has no legal standing in American
law. Homosexuals are here to stay and most opposition to gay marriage is simply discrimination
based on conflict of beliefs. This argument is no different than the civil rights movement for equal
rights to African Americans in which, in its time, it was almost unheard of to consider sharing
schools, water fountains, or even interracial marriages. This is now seen as an outdated vise for
discrimination, and as African Americans cannot decide their color, homosexuals stick by their
experience that they did not choose this and that they have struggled with their sexuality throughout
their entire lives. The arguments for and in refute of those against same sex marriages seem sound.

According to Cooper and Cates, the seven main anti–gay parenting arguments are:
1. Kids need a mom and dad;
2. Gay people cannot provide stable homes;
3. Gay people pose a risk of child sex abuse;
4. Being raised by gay parents will cause kids to be gay;
5. Kids of gay parents will get picked on;
6. Studies on children of gay parents are flawed; and
7. Parenting by lesbians and gay men is a social experiment. (85–91)
The voices behind these arguments all have their "justified" reasons why each point is true, but the
truth is that each of these arguments have been fabricated based on stereotypes, personal opinions,
and even their own insecurities. Because of these arguments and others like it, same–sex parents
have been stripped of basic parental rights and benefits that heterosexual parents receive.
Parental rights are things that rarely cross the minds of most heterosexual parents in America, until
they are in jeopardy of losing them. For same–sex parents, parental rights are an everyday struggle
for equality. There are dozens of limitations for same–sex parents. The most prominent are:
1. Bans and severe restrictions for gay and lesbian couples to adopt across the nation;
2. Children of same–sex parents are not legally tied to both parents, because of this, children can be
separated from their surviving parent and home if their biological parent dies, even if

The Rights Of Same Sex Marriage
Recognized as the Marriage Protection Amendment, Proposition 102 was placed on the ballot and
passed by Arizona voters in 2008, amending the state's Constitution which defined the traditional
sense of marriage between a man and a woman. However, on October 17, 2014, a federal judge
disagreed with voters and overruled Prop 102, claiming that the ban on same–sex marriage was
unconstitutional. Not long after the decision Attorney General Tom Horne stated that there would be
no appeal and same–sex marriages would be legally honored in Arizona.
Prior to the ruling, the ban on same–sex marriage had always been consistently upheld. The majority
of Arizonans supported Prop 102 and they stood in agreement in their fight for the degree of
protection that the law provided prohibiting same–sex marriage.
In their attempt to preserve the institution of marriage, they came with arguments that were backed
by research studies, science, health concerns and Christian values, giving them a convincing case
that was based on much more than a simple definition of traditional marriage. Furthermore, in their
fight against same–sex marriages, demonstrators at the State Capital brought their disagreement

love based on something so simple as gender is ludicrous. As of 2017, 32% of Americans believe
gay marriage is immoral and unnatural and oppose it, but 62% of Americans favor it (Mitchell). Gay
marriage helps increase adoption rates, allows people to– love who they want with no limits, and
lessens discrimination within human rights.
Lesbians, gay, bisexual, and transgender, (LGBT) couples raise children just the same as
heterosexual couples and arguably even better. 4% of adopted children in the United States are
raised by LGBT couples (Adoptions). Just like hetrosexual couples it takes two partners in raising a
child. Children often can talk to one parent more than the other, so why not have two of the same
sex? LGBT families can expose a child to not only a judge–free lifestyle, but to an open mindset and
more of a understanding toward society that everyone is the same. A study in 2010 showed that
children with lesbian mothers were more socially and academically advanced. A similar study
showed that children of gay fathers were as well rounded as their peers (Anderson). Although the
parents are of the same sex the child as more of a benefit with a homosexual couple rather than a
heterosexual couple. In addition to a stable family, humans have the right to be themselves.
Not listening to other people's opinions is important because nobody should be forced to be
someone they are not . In a survey by the Pew Research Center 84% voted that they were marrying
for love (Kiley). Love is an attachment to someone a deep unity of gratification. Passionate love
stands for compassion not just a feeling people get, this demonstration of love is brought out
through vows and promises throughout a relationship. Once taking away the opportunity to love
someone forever rights have been taken away. Gay marriage rights in the United States should not
be based on religion especially when people have their own

Same Sex Marriage And Civil Rights For Same-Sex Marriage
Same–sex Marriage is a question that comes across my path on a consistent basis. The agency where
I work advocates this practice, which requires yearly training videos to ensure everyone understands
the rules of the practice. Although our society bends the laws to support this practice, I will argue
that government laws do not hold true to God's law or even the law of nature. Additionally, I will
argue that marriage, by natural law, is designed for procreating purposes.
When someone thinks of marriage, it is two people, man, and woman, that have fallen in love, went
through the ceremony, have children, and the circle of life begins. "Marriage has 'a specific
orientation to having children. The first of Augustine's 'three goods' of marriage – children – would
be inapplicable to covenant partnerships: the second and third goods – faithfulness and the 'bond of
permanence' – would very much apply. But marriage has been re–ordered by the resurrection of
Christ," shares Thatcher.
In contrast, the argument for same–sex marriage is that it is just like civil rights of that African–
Americans. The civil rights movement and civil rights for African–Americans are nowhere near the
same or in comparison to a social agenda pushed by those for same–sex marriages. According to
History.com, shares a portion of the struggle for civil rights for African–Americans:

property–have not always been

Are Same Sex Marriages Right?
Are same sex marriages right? Same sex marriage is allowable because everyone deserves to make
their own decisions and choose the life they want. Every day there are people getting married and
joining as partners to have a life together. So I say every person should do what their happiness is
and if that falls under straight marriage or gay marriage then it should be socially acceptable. Same
sex marriage is one of the top most controversional debates in politics currently because the United
States is divided on the acceptance of it. Married people get a lot of benefits that aren't offered to
un–married people. Government benefits offered to married people are favorable treatment in tax,
inheritance, insurance status, rights for adoption, and custody. A big aspect of marriage is the
religion of the couple; it must be approved by the authority of their religion. Not all religions require
approval for marriage. Religions have the power to not marry people if they're eligible or ineligible
by the state. The debate about same sex marriage is because the same sex couple won't be able to
have kids of their own. The pro and cons about marriage is that every person, at some point, of their
adult hood is looking for happiness, love, and someone who cares for them in return. If the couple
resides in United States then the government will give health care, Social Security and provide a
nursing home for married couples. Also, a perk to legalizing same sex marriage is putting a stop to

Equal Rights for Same-Sex Couples Essays
Imagine being in love with someone, but never having the ability to make the relationship official.
For many same–sex couples across the United States of America this is a reality. Even though great
strides have been made in the advancement of gay rights, homosexual couples still face opposition
from the Federal Government by being denied the right to a marriage. Same–sex marriages should
be constitutionalized. While the Federal Government denies gay and lesbian couples the right to
marry, there are some state governments which allow same–sex couples the right to domestic
partnerships, civil unions, and marriages. "Comparing marriage to civil unions and domestic
partnerships is a bit like comparing diamonds to rhinestones" (Human ... Show more content on

These states which grant domestic partnerships and the states mentioned above which allow civil
unions are in the beginning stages of trying to rectify the Federal Government's Defense of Marriage
Act. Currently six states and one territory issue marriage licenses to gay and lesbian couples. These
states are Connecticut, Iowa, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, and Vermont plus the
District of Columbia (Human Rights Campaign). Though these states and Washington, D.C. allow
gay marriage, these couples still do not have the same rights and benefits as heterosexual couples.
There are many financial benefits received from a marriage which make it appealing to same–sex
couples. These rights and federal tax benefits are given to married heterosexual couples, but
homosexual couples do not receive them. Such benefits include the couple filing for joint tax returns
and "inheriting money or property from his or her spouse without paying tax" (Zajac, Koova, and
Rocks 29). Due to the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), which states marriage as being a legal
coming together of husband and wife (Zajac, Koova, and Rocks 29), marriages for same–sex
couples are deemed unconstitutional. This means that even though a state may approve and allow a
gay couple to be "married", the Federal Government prohibits it. Gay and Lesbian couples along
with many gay–rights activists strongly oppose the Defense Of Marriage Act. Even the Obama

Same Sex Rights In Canada Essay
Over the course of 2003 and 2004 two cases concerning same sex rights appeared before the
Canadian and American supreme courts. The Supreme Court of the United States heard the case of
Lawrence et al. v. Texas, which dealt with the constitutionality of sodomy laws prohibiting male on
male sodomy. The Canadian Supreme Court also dealt with a case related to same–sex rights, but in
a very different setting. The case before the Canadian Supreme Court was Reference re Same–Sex
Marriage, a reference case dealing with the constitutionality of a proposed federal law legalizing
same–sex marriage. Although both cases ended in what can be considered a "victory" for same–sex
rights, they also reveal deep differences between the ways the two countries ... Show more content

The doctrine first appeared in Canadian constitutional law when it was reference by Lord Sankey in
Edwards v. A.G. of Canada. In other words, The British North America Act was not meant to be
static, but to grow over time. This doctrine was explicitly referred to by the Court in Reference re
Same–Sex Marriage. In response to interveners who claimed that the common law definition of
marriage (one man and one woman) was entrenched in the Constitution, the Court argued that went
against the living tree doctrine, which the Court referred to as "one of the most fundamental
principles of Canadian constitutional interpretation." The Court was not interested in what marriage
was in 1867, but rather they were concerned with what marriage was from the perspective of
modern day Canada. This living tree ideology differs greatly from the originalism found on the US
Supreme Court. Of course it was not just the Canadian Supreme Court that practices this doctrine, in
the case of Halpern v. Canada, an Ontario court handed down another unanimous decision that ruled
that the common law definition of marriage violated S.15 of the Charter. Although it is not the only
factor, the lack of a strong originalist viewpoint in the Canadian court system seems to be one of the
reasons that same–sex rights moved through the court system relatively fast when compared with

Why Do Women Deserve The Same Rights As All Men
1.b. All women deserve the same rights as all men.
2. One of the pieces of evidence that supports this is, " I could work as much and eat as much as a

women and men should have the same rights. This quote shows how Truth has worked just as hard
as any man and therefore, deserves the same rights as them.

Equal Rights to Marry for Same-Sex Couples
California Proposition 8: Same Sex Marriage
The equal right to marry for same–sex couples in the United States has acquired growing public
support over time, with a quantity of state–level laws passed and others presently up for debate.
Proposition 8 was a ballot proposition and constitutional amendment that was passed in the
November 2008 state elections in California. The measure added a new provision, Section 7.5 of the
Declaration of Rights, to the California Constitution, which provides that only marriage between a
man and a woman is legitimate or recognized in California. By limiting the acknowledgment of
marriage to opposite–sex couples, the proposition reversed the California Supreme Court's ruling of
In re Marriage Cases that same–sex couples have a constitutional right to get married (Newman,
2010). The wording of Proposition 8 was exactly the same as Proposition 22, which had passed in
2000 and, as an ordinary statute, had been nullified by the State Supreme Court in 2008. California's
State Constitution put Proposition 8 into instant effect the day after the election (Scotto, 2010).
Supporters of the constitutional amendment contended that solely heterosexual marriage was a
necessary institution of society and that leaving the constitution untouched would result in public
schools teaching the kids that gay marriage is okay, and that gays do not have the right to redefine
marriage for everyone else. Opponents contended that the freedom to marry is

Should the LGBT+ Community Have the Same Rights as Everyone Else?
There are many rights that a normal everyday person takes for granted. To name a few marriage
rights, workforce discrimination, adoption rights, and Assisted Reproductive Techniques. It is
everyday things that no one thinks twice about having rights to. Should the LGBT+ community
have the same basic human rights as everyone else? Marriage rights is something no one realizes
how much goes into it until they do not have it. Whenever you are married you are able to have the
rights to all the assets that you and your significant other own together, you can own properties

Being discriminated against is nothing new to the LGBT+ community. Sexual orientation
discrimination in the workforce occurs more often than you might think. It does not only happen
whenever someone is denied a position, it also happens whenever an employee encounters
harassment, or detail of certain benefits provided by that company, simply because of their sexual
orientation. This certain thing has been occurring for decades and over two dozen states that do not
have anti–discrimination laws that protect individuals from being discriminated against. New
legislation has been introduced but not passed in congress and it is called The Equality Act. The
Equality Act is a LGBT non–discrimination act that would give permanent protection for LGBT
individuals in the most important aspects of their lives, employment being one of them. Believe it or
not, sexual orientation is not protected under federal law the way race, color, sex, religion, national

Gay Rights Vs Same Law
The question is some how hard to answer but I will do my best in answering to the best of my
knowledge. Considering the fact that both values are important in making sure that everybody is
happy, I think they should follow the law that requires all businesses to serve everyone regardless of
their race, color, national origin, or creed. We are supposed to do what the law says and not what we
think. But where it becomes complicated is where that same law gives everyone the freedom to say
what they want and also the freedom of religion. In my opinion, I think the business owner were
wrong, selling to the lesbian couples doesn't mean that they're engaging in the act or anything
relating to that. If they law had said that nobody should sale to them it would have been a deferent
matter entirely, but since that is not the case nobody should deny them of their right to patronize
anybody. If anybody is not comfortable with they law that has been put in place they have the right
to take it to the court and not take laws into their own hands by denying people of their right. A right
can be given and can also be taken at the same time, therefore, it's the duty of the government to
always decide. The fact that the government have that right make laws doesn't mean that they can do
what they want at the expense of people happiness.

Should Same Sex Couples Have the Same Adoption Rights as Heterosexual Couples?
In 2008, President Barack Obama stated there are too many children who need loving parents to
deny one group of people adoption rights (eQuality, 2005). A child will benefit from a healthy,
loving home, whether the parents are gay or not (eQuality, 2005). With that statement in 2008 from
the individual who holds the most powerful authority in the United States, why are gay and lesbian
couples today still battling adoption laws? When in fact while trying to adopt and raise children a

Miraculously in 2010 Florida acknowledged that the adoption ban was unconstitutional (eQuality,
2005). In previous years homosexuals interested in the adoption process would use foster care to
acquire the same nurturing family that heterosexuals had acquired thus, circumventing the system.
The unconstitutional ban had the ability to deter potential same sex adoptive parents because they
feared automatic exclusion. With the increased pressure from the gay community to allow same sex
adoptions many adoption agencies are becoming more accommodating to homosexuals. However,
the obstacles that same sex couples encounter tend to minimize the whole family structure and make
the family unit vulnerable (Brown, Smalling, Groza, & Ryan, 2009). Unfortunately, there is a
number of legal hurdles gay and lesbian couples face when trying to adopt therefore, the system has
to be circumvented. Also same sex couples encounter individuals who subconsciously and
consciously discriminate through a variety of behaviors including evident harassment or social
exclusion (Brown, Smalling, Groza, & Ryan, 2009). It would seem as if the drive to prevent same
sex couples from the benefit of joint adoption starts with the discrimination of these couples rather
than the welfare of the child (Johnson, n.d). In fact, these discriminations include accusations of
psychological disorders and a higher occurrence of domestic violence.

Essay on The Right to Same Sex Marriage
Same sex marriage is a highly controversial topic that has been lingering in America for some time
now. The American society prides itself in the provision of equal rights and opportunities to all, yet,
homosexuals continue to be discriminated against and denied their rights to marriage. It is often
believe that "marriage is a commitment between two people that love each other and want to share
the rest of their life side by side. It is not measured by whether it is a man and a woman, or a couple
of the same sex. It is measured by how much a couple loves each other and cares for each other."
(Cheney, 2009) Looking at that definition of marriage, there should never be any reason to deny two
people that love each other the right to legally ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, as today's society starts being more accepting to homosexuality, people will be more
welcoming to homosexuality and then their communities will be less discriminatory and the
argument of deteriorating the marriage institution will be meaningless.
. "The problem with gay marriage, some opponents say, is that it will harm the society. This is a
legitimate concern, and one that needs to be addressed. Marriage has played a very important role in
society and it is a valuable institution. So in what way will gay marriage destroy heterosexual
marriage or prevent it from continuing to function? Will it destroy the institution of marriage itself?
Aside from the fact that whether or not a homosexual couple gets married has no impact whatsoever
on any actual heterosexual marriage, there conceivably might be some negative repercussions.
Opponents argue that gay marriage will devalue marriage itself. Aside from the questionable, and
obviously homophobic, implication, it will undermine marriage because gays will make a mockery
of it, supposedly because they are gay, this is implausible. It has been argued that gays want
marriage rights because they value the institution and want in on it. Andrew Sullivan is clear on this
point whenever he raises the issue. Any devaluation would stem from bigotry on the part of
heterosexuals, that is, their unduly judging gay marriages

prejudiced so as to deprive two individuals the opportunity to unite. I've advocated in the favor of

According to the American Academy of Pediatrics illustrated "children with gay parents and
children with heterosexual parents show no differences in gender identity or gender role behaviors."
A research carried out by Cambridge University consisted of finding differences and similarities
between same sex couples and heterosexual of adoptive families. Researchers discovered "The
differences that did emerge relate to levels of depressive symptoms in parents, which are especially
low for gay fathers, and the contrasting pathways to adoption which was second choice for many of
the heterosexual and some lesbian parents – but first choice for all but one of the gay parents." Not
only does adoption rights for same sex couples help create families but also "Gay adoption increases
the pool of couples who are able to adopt, which can move more children out of the child welfare

The Rights Of Same Sex Couples
Soppho: Have you heard, Socrates, that our government is intending to extend the rights of
marriages to same–sex couples? Under that change, gay partners will then be recognized equally as

Socrates: Yes, but politicians and those in positions of influence have no business to mess with the
standard of God relating to marriage, let alone decide to debate this issue as if it is open for
discussion. Because of the way they are boasted, they don't have a proper perspective on themselves
and where they fit in this life. The standard is clear by the way that men and women are made, so the

Crazy, right? Road to equality!
Socrates: Here's what you have to understand about bans on interracial marriage: they were designed
to divide the races, and that was and is wrong. Traditional marriage encourages and supports
bringing the genders together, which is good. Ethnicity is not a fundamental merit or facet of
marriage. But gender is. Therefor, including interracial couples does not draw an analogy for the
redefinition of marriage. Interracial, opposite–sex couples can still produce biological children
together. Same–sex marriage is a redefinition of marriage–that's something very different.
Soppho: First, you have some things right (tradition, racism) but fail to provide an example of when
it is ever okay to pass a form of discrimination against gay people. Second, if restricting the legality
of marriage based on race is what you say it is – racial discrimination – why ban the legal
recognition of a choice of partner on the basis of gender? That would qualify as sex discrimination.
Socrates: Must our jurisdiction then permit the marriage between polygamous parties? If marriage is
redefined so that the sex of spouses is irrelevant, why stop there? It can be further refined so that
even the age and blood relation of the spouses is also irrelevant. If marriage is a fundamental rights
issue, there can be no grounds for saying no to polygamists or non–consenting unions.

Actually, for same–sex couples, the adoption of a child or artificial insemination procedures will be
troublesome, there will be a lot of issues and problems. Moreover, there are few countries in the
world that allow same–sex couples to bring up their children, and many people will choose to give
up in the process. Because of the lack of family, some people suppose that such a marriage is not
necessary. For example, it is mentioned by Bernheim Gilles in "HOMOSEXUAL MARRIAGE,
PARENTING, AND ADOPTION" that adoption by same sex couples may influence the child
psychology even it is worse for healthy grow up(Bernheim, 2013). Under the society without
universal same sex relationship, it is real exist that the child from heterosexual family confuse about
the child from homosexual family. Besides, even they would laugh at them and say some offensive
words to query why they cannot live with a mother and a father. Afterward, there is no doubt that
most of children who attacked by the language will appear psychological problems and easily to
lose confidence of their family. The feeling that they are different from others will be deeper day by

the right to adopt a child can be left to infertility families. As a result, same sex marriage may not be

Same Sex Marriage Is A Fundamental Right
In June 2015, the United States Supreme Court, in a 5–4 decision, held that same–sex marriage is a
fundamental right guaranteed by the due process and equal protection clauses of the Fourteenth
Amendment to the United States Constitution. In consequence, many new legal implications have
arose from this decision. For example, now there'll be same–sex divorces, same–sex spousal rights
for life insurance, wills, and the like. What does this all mean legally for same–sex couples? As time
progresses, it will become clearer how exactly these issues will be expanded to same–sex marriages,
but now we discuss these issues as they stand today.
Divorce
Divorce cannot be that different since prior to the Supreme Court's landmark ruling, many states had
already legalized same–sex marriage. In fact, soon after the decision, a same–sex divorce was filed
for in New Orleans, Louisiana. Logically, same–sex divorce should not differ for same–sex couples
as the divorcing couple must go through the same steps as a heterosexual couple. The hurdle here is
that many states that previously did not acknowledge same–sex marriage, must now learn how to
marry and divorce same–sex couples. This should not cause much trouble since same–sex marriage
is recognized amongst all–states, making it even easier for same–sex couple's to get divorced.

Gay Rights Vs Same Sex Marriage
Some more examples of our freedoms being expanded include the second amendment and the recent
law on same sex marriage. With the second amendment which is the right to bare arms, citizens now
have the option to carry a firearm on them always. This plays a huge role in our society today due to
the many terrorist attacks that are happening around the world. With more people carrying weapons
on them, we can now defend ourselves from dangerous situations and help defend others during
these terrorist attacks. Now with same sex marriage finally legal, many individuals can now marry
and finalize their marriage with their significant other of the same sex. This became legal with the
help of the Obama administration when he attended office during the years 2008–2016.
For example, back in the day, same sex marriage was illegal, and this was an obstacle for
homosexual individuals because to them, they did not have the same rights as straight people did.
Hence, this made it very hard for the homosexual couples to express their love because at the time
of this being illegal, to the public it was not "politically correct

Gay Rights And Same-Sex Marriage Debate

  • 1. Gay Marriage And Equal Rights For Same-Sex Marriage As of today, the world is constantly becoming more modern. Social issues of the past are nothing like they are now. Controversies, like equal rights for gays and lesbians, are being debated and resolved as the world advances. Now that gays and lesbians have the same civil rights as a straight man or woman, many states are wondering if homosexuals should be afforded the right to marry the same gender. Same sex marriage is becoming an important topic in America which holds a great deal of attention; while many people and organizations encourage and uphold the right to a same sex wedding, there are still those who refuse to stand behind it. Same sex couples are often faced with discrimination and hate from people who do not share the same beliefs; however, regardless of what rivals say, same sex couples still proudly support homosexual marriage. In her article about a lesbian couple whom were finally able to be married after several months of being hated against, Liz Hayes writes, "Abramovich and Brookover said they realize some people have objections to same–sex couples' being afforded equal rights... 'We don't go around flaunting it in front of everyone; we weren't being like, 'We're here, and we're going to be gay whether you like it or not,'" (Hayes). Many homophobes think that if they just throw curses at homosexuals that they will turn away from their 'wicked' ways. While being cursed may work on some (perhaps insecure) gays or lesbians, most find it to be a motivation to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Should Homosexuals Have The Same Rights? Should homosexuals have the same rights as heterosexuals? Regardless of same sex marriage being legal in America, homosexuals have fewer rights than heterosexuals. All people deserve to obtain the same rights and respect regardless of who they choose to love. People are getting disrespected and mistreated all over America, because of which sex they choose to marry. Whether or not one agrees with a person's sexual orientation or not, it does not give them a right to disrespect and mistreat them. Would it be fair to tell a man and a woman who were in love and legally married, that they are not allowed to adopt a child together? People, who are in love and legally married, are often not allowed to adopt a child, for the sole reason that they married the same sex. Married people, regardless of whom they've chosen to marry, have the right to adopt children. Humans that are married to the same sex frequently get denied the right to adopt children as a couple. "However, one–third of agencies would reject a gay or lesbian applicant." Turning married people down, who would raise, love and parent a child, solely based upon the couples same sex preference, proves an injustice and unfairness to that couple. Same sex couples have the right to marry, which should give them the right to adopt children. Homosexuals should have the right to adopt. By allowing homosexuals the right to adopt, we are giving more children homes. The main concern with homosexuals becoming parents by ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Gay Marriage And The Right Of Same Sex Marriage In the United States, there is a communal controversy regarding the right of same–sex marriage. I decided to explore the views of two different authors who contrast each other. British Author, Andrew Sullivan writes the essay, "For Gay Marriage" about equal rights on marriages for same–sex couples. William J. Bennett composes the essay, "Against Gay Marriage" giving his views on why couples of the same sex should not be allowed to engage in marital relations. Sullivan supports the idea of gay marriages while Bennett opposes the idea. Referring to the article in the "Moral Issues" book.... Page...give examples from there. Every human being has emotional needs and different interests, giving rise to diverse and conflicting opinions on gay marriage dealing with social issues, domestic partnership and religious viewpoints. Marriage is a statement of love and commitment; it is the key to a pursuit of happiness. Homosexuals have identical emotional needs and temptations as heterosexuals and there is no reason marriage should be permitted to one class and not the other. Sullivan is a strong believer that gay and lesbian couples should be treated as equals in society and no different than anyone else. Many people are afraid of the effects same–sex marriages could have on our culture. Sullivan explains that gay men and women are no different from anyone else in society as far as political and moral beliefs, so they deserve equal opportunity. Sullivan stays strong in emphasizing that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. Same Sex Rights And Human Rights LGBTQ rights have been at the center of debate for many years now. Some argue that people have the right to love whomever they choose to, regardless of gender, while others argue that same sex rights are a disgrace to human kind. Nevertheless, how you regard to the validity of any human right depends on which moral theory you practice. For instance, if you practice deontological or virtue ethics theories, you are more likely to believe that human rights, such as same sex marriage, are natural rights that enable human flourishing. On the contrary, if you embrace Marx's or even Bentham's rejection of rights, you might believe that "natural rights" are nonsense. Even more so, if you are a Utilitarian, you might agree with Marx's theory that rights are nonsense; however, you differ in believing that they are useful if they produce the best consequences. The American Declaration of Independence stresses the importance of freedom and equality; therefore, LGBTQ rights should not be alienated. Those who consider themselves a part of that community have all the right to practice their preferences. A view adopted by Thomas Nagel, is that we must respect values that people have because they just have them, so why not let this group be? In addition, rights are things put in place to protect people's interests and ability to flourish. Consequently, if you suppress the LGBTQ community, you are not allowing them to grow into the person they so naturally are meant to be. Instead, you force ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 17. Does The Lgbt Community Deserve The Same Rights Same–Sex Couples and the LGBT Community Deserve Equal Treatment Imagine being in love with someone and not being able to express your feelings for one another without being discriminated against. Approximately 64% of the LGBT community are treated un– equal to heterosexuals. Same–Sex couples and the LGBT community deserve the same rights as opposite sex couples and heterosexuals. People should be allowed to love who they love without persecution or condemnation. The real problem is how we view the moral, legal and religious issues that surround homosexuals. Morality is how individuals determine what they believe is right or wrong. People are brought up to believe and value different things. Because there are so many different beliefs, we depend on our legal system to determine what is right and wrong. Fortunately, the legal system is being more supportive of gay and lesbian couples. It is becoming more obvious, that the right thing to do morally is allow same–sex couples to marry and live without bias. It is morally wrong to deprive people of happiness because of who they love. There are legal issues that complicate the lives of couples that are not considered legally married. For instance, if your partner was in the hospital dying, you would not be allowed visitation because you are not legally considered their spouse. If they were to die, the partner would not have any legal right over such things as the funeral or property rights. Our society is extremely ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 21. Same Sex Marriage And Gay Rights State legislatures, voters and more recently the courts have made sweeping changes over the past two decades in laws defining whether marriage is limited to relationships between a man and a woman or is extended to same sex couples. Gay marriage and gay rights are a major controversy in the world today. It is a constant debate on whether or not traditional marriage is out–of–date and that a new way is better. Although many believe in gay rights, it is difficult to support something that is against the foundation of America, and something that is harmful to the people of America. The Founding Fathers envisioned a government that would promote and encourage Christianity. The founding fathers wanted a firm foundation of Christianity in America; they wanted to serve God, and they wanted America to be protected by God's hand. The Declaration of Independence; The Paris Peace Treaty of 1783, and the Constitution are three examples that the founding fathers based this country on Christianity. The Declaration of Independence says, "Laws of Nature and of Nature's God... Appealing to the Supreme Judge of the World... With a firm Reliance on the Protection of Divine Providence." The Declaration states that Nature's God, the Supreme Judge, and Protection of Divine Providence notice all are capitalised. Many argue this those quotes are in relation with gods, but not the Almighty God; however, the Christian God, Jesus The Messiah, is always capitalized. The Constitution states that, "Done ... • 25. The Rights Of Same Sex Marriages Essay Republicans believe in freedom, but only freedom that is God given, and affirmed by our Founding Fathers, articulated in the Declaration of Independence and protected by the Constitution. With that being said, they support everyone's freedom unless it's against God's will. They believe in opportunity for all; where a person has the freedom of chasing their dreams, the ability to build a brand or business and have a life regardless of gender, race or religion. Unless, that particular person is a part of the LGBT community. Republicans support strong families, but they're against same sex marriages. They believe marriage is a God ordained, legal, and moral commitment between a natural man and a natural woman. They're totally against homosexuality, which they believe is a chosen behavior and it shouldn't be accepted. They oppose monitoring gun ownership, taxation and regulations of guns and they want to eliminate all gun free zones. Republicans are pro–life, meaning they're against abortions. so they want to abolish abortions, because even the unborn has the right to life. Democrats support and value freedom, privacy and personal responsibility. They believe in freedom from government interference in our private lives and our personal decisions, freedom of religion and individual conscience. They support responsibility, meaning people are responsible for their actions, meaning corporation are not people and cannot be used to protect people from taking responsibility of their ... • 29. The Fight For Equal Rights For Same Sex Marriages Across... The Fight for Equal Rights for Same–Sex Marriages across the United States Having one loving parent is good. Having two loving parents is great. Having a mother and a father is traditional. Having two mothers or two fathers is wrong. This is what we are told to believe but as we learn from our past and grow as a society, we start to look for positive change in which our values are challenged and the truth becomes clear. It is not right to take away the basic rights of a person because of their sexual orientation. It is not right for a homosexual couple to be at a disadvantage and lack financial security because of who they choose to love. It's true, marriage is sacred but it does not have to be defined as a union between one–man–one–woman. Truth is sexual orientation should not be a factor in regards to government protection of the basic rights of the people. According to the Gallup survey "...approximately .3 percent (.3%) of U.S. adults are married to a same–sex spouse, a mere .5 percent (.5%) identify as being in a same–sex domestic partnership and, of the estimated .8 percent (.8%) of the total U.S. adult population that are a part of a same–sex couple, 780,000 are married." (Morris, "Gallup: Less Than 1% of Adult Population Part of a Same– Sex Couple"). Why turn the country inside out and overturn thousands of years of human history for 1%? Simple, people have rights that are granted by the government. Any person who is an upstanding citizen who pay ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 33. Same Sex Marriage And Equal Rights Essay Before the issue of same–sex marriage and equal rights are approached, marriage must be defined. Marriage is a consensual, exclusive and lifelong commitment between one man and one woman, expressed in a physical union uniquely designed to produce and nurture children (Same–Sex "Marriage" Public Policy Statement, 2016). Marriage is both ubiquitous and central. All across our country, in every region, every social class, every race and ethnicity, every religion or non–religion, people get married. For many if not most people, moreover, marriage is not a trivial matter. It is a key to the pursuit of happiness, something people aspire to–and keep aspiring to, again and again, even when their experience has been far from happy (Nussbaum, 2009). Marriage, it soon becomes evident, is no single thing. It is plural in both content and meaning. First, marriage has a civil rights aspect. Married people get a lot of government benefits that the unmarried usually do not get: favorable treatment in tax, inheritance, and insurance status; immigration rights; rights in adoption and custody; decisional and visitation rights in health care and burial; the spousal privilege exemption when giving testimony in court; and yet others. Marriage has, second, an expressive aspect. When people get married, typically a statement of love and commitment in front of witnesses is stated. Finally, marriage has a religious aspect. Government plays a key role in all three aspects of marriage. It confers and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 37. Civil Rights And Same Sex Marriage Civil rights and same sex marriage is a topic I would love to write my senior paper about. I am very interested in this because especially now, it seems to be all any one is talking about. I go onto Facebook and see friends who have changed their profile pictures to the gay rights equality sign or the gay pride flag. It seems to be everywhere I look. However, my question is, if homosexuality is all around us why is it so hard for people to accept? I understand religion and conservatives and different upbringings and all that, but if two boys or two girls are in love, who are we to stop that and why are people so against it? Who gave the government the power to say "No, That is wrong, you cannot do that." This could be considered as a liberal point of view, but it does not seem right to me that if my best friend falls in love with another male, he cannot marry him. I am interested in this topic because I want to know more about how the government got all this power and why they choose to use it against the people. The government is supposed to protect us, and by not allowing two people to get married they are doing the exact opposite. The government is bringing more attention and negativity to gay people and hurting them more than helping. The public, including me, want a better understanding of what they are doing and why they are doing it. I would like to figure out what their plan is because, obviously, public opinions are changing, and the government needs to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Should same sex marriage be allowed? Should these humans be given the same rights in their relationship as heterosexual couples? Why restricted these citizens from their right just because of their love interest? Should we take certain customs away from foreigners just because it's not customs we perform? The United States is a land of the free not the restricted. We are not robots set to one program and one program alone every human being is an individual and they all do things their own way. Love is between the souls of two people, whether it be : a black male and white female, a black female and an Asian male, or male and another male love has no boundaries. Then you find out it's hopeless to purse your full dream it's not legal to marry. Marriage belongs to everyone, it's what we all wish for why rip that from someone. Why would you rip it away from yourself? A legal parent is defined as a person who has the right to live with a child and make decisions about the child's education, well being and health. Legal parents must also support their children financially. When a heterosexual married couple has a child both parents are automatically considered to be the child's legal parents. Even if the couple divorces, both parents still are legal parents of the child unlike homosexual couples who have to go through the legal system to find out the fate of the child. Some people say that children need a mother and a father to raise us; to provide both viewpoints of gender: masculinity, femininity and all the issues those entail. However, there are many who believe that gender does not matter when parenting. Homosexual partners bring children into their lives in a number of ways. In lesbian couples, frequently, one ... • 45. The Right of All: Legalize Same-Sex Marriage Essay Imagine a world where it was completely shameful to like the opposite sex. If someone found out about a heterosexual couple or just people playing around, they would get abused, bullied, attacked, just because of the people they choose to be with. The whole United States or maybe just a single state would be against them. • 49. Why Same Sex Marriage Is Morally Right And Should Be... What is marriage about? Who is marriage for? What are some of the complications with marriages in today's society? How does religion plays a major part in marriage? According to Toby L. Ditz, "Marriage laws have historically withheld and continue to withhold the right to marry and the legal privileges associated with marriage from whole classes of people: slaves, interracial couples, and gay partners (Ditz, 2001,500)". The way marriage is viewed in this newer generation differs significantly from the past. People's observations and opinions on matrimony and its true meaning have changed extensively. Marriage is not less valued currently, but it 's definitely being viewed differently, for homosexuals especially. Within this research, we are going to examine why same sex marriage is morally right and should be legally recognized. Traditionally, according to Barnes he mentioned that the greatest amount of people in the United States believe that a traditional marriage entails, "Brides wearing their long elegant white dresses, flowers, music, attendants in matching clothes, and a ceremony with a ring exchange, which is followed by a reception with a tiered cake" (Barnes, 2014,62). Furthermore, matrimony has also been looked upon as a main purpose for building a foundation and stabilizing a home and a family. Back in the biblical days, most of the women had to depend on their husbands to provide and support them. Their main role at that time was to take care of the children, ... In thirty–three states, the government has decided that it has the power to intervene in who its citizens want to marry and love, as if they could decide our friends and family. A Washington Post columnist argues "We should be begging gay couples to adopt children. • 61. Same Sex Marriage Is Right Or Wrong? In recent years, the topic of whether same–sex marriage is right or wrong has created a controversy. People should not feel coerced to agree with something they believe is wrong; clearly, same–sex marriage is immoral and unnatural. Many complications come with same–sex marriages including financial pressures, social pressures, moral pressures, and health risks. Many people believe in a traditional marriage between a man and a woman. God created man and woman to be faithful, produce children, and replenish the Earth; therefore, this can't be accomplished in a homosexual society. Same–sex marriage is contrary to the word of God and the laws of nature; therefore, it is incompatible with the beliefs, sacred texts, and traditions of many religious groups. Many biblical scriptures talk about the immorality of same–sex relationships. For example, Leviticus 18:22 states, "Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination". Marriage is a privilege, not a right. It is not correct to redefine marriage away from the original meaning. The founders of Chick–fil–a took a stand on their Christian beliefs and closed their stores nationwide on Sundays allowing their employees to attend church and spend time with their families. They also created a media frenzy by taking a stand against same–sex marriage with an unprecedented amount of support from the straight community. Not only do most opposing take a religious standpoint, but they also claim is have a negative effect on "real marriage" and that same–sex households cannot provide the necessary parenting needed to properly raise a child. Not only do most advocates feel that some of the opposing arguments make no sense, but also that others are based off of sole assumption rooted in personal agenda. Also, the most important aspect of and reasoning for marriage is love, and it is unfair to deny same–sex couples the right to prove and commit to their love. Based on the first Amendment, the Bible has no legal standing in American law. Homosexuals are here to stay and most opposition to gay marriage is simply discrimination based on conflict of beliefs. This argument is no different than the civil rights movement for equal rights to African Americans in which, in its time, it was almost unheard of to consider sharing schools, water fountains, or even interracial marriages. This is now seen as an outdated vise for discrimination, and as African Americans cannot decide their color, homosexuals stick by their experience that they did not choose this and that they have struggled with their sexuality throughout their entire lives. • 73. The Rights Of Same Sex Marriages By John Baxter And Jeff... Abandoned in a dumpster at five months old, little Freddie started out life on the streets. After being found and rescued by a garbage truck driver, Freddie was bounced around from foster home to foster home. By 1999, when he was four years old, he had been a part of twelve different families in three states. The future looked very bleak for Freddie until a young, ambitious couple came along. Nevertheless, although they were looking to adopt Freddie, the adoption agency told the couple that they had to be married. The problem was they could not get married. John Baxter and Jeff Forshay are at the forefront of a fight staged by gay and lesbian activists to get the government to permit same–sex marriages. Activists say this is just part of their hard–fought battle for public acceptance; the movement has gone on for at least twenty years. At the same time, remarkable transformations have changed the general makeup of the typical family in the United States: "[T]he traditional family model, . . . in which the father is the only breadwinner for his wife and their biological children, comprised a majority of U.S. families in the 1950s. Today, however, almost three–quarters of families are classified as 'nontraditional'" ("Same–Sex Marriage" 1–2). Many of today's married couples both work and receive benefits not generally available to unmarried couples. Marriage, however, is not an option for people like John and Jeff. How would you feel if those events weren't something that you could experience because of government laws? Of the fifty states in the U.S., only six allow same– sex couples to get married, even fewer allow same–sex couples their full rights as parents. State laws aren't the only laws to blame; some federal laws also inhibit same–sex marriage, benefits, adoption, and parenting rights. There are even laws prohibiting same–sex couples from becoming adoptive parents altogether. Rights should not be limited because of sexual orientation, race, religion, gender, or creed; that's discrimination. Same–sex couples ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to Cooper and Cates, the seven main anti–gay parenting arguments are: 1. Kids need a mom and dad; 2. Gay people cannot provide stable homes; 3. Gay people pose a risk of child sex abuse; 4. Being raised by gay parents will cause kids to be gay; 5. Kids of gay parents will get picked on; 6. Studies on children of gay parents are flawed; and 7. Parenting by lesbians and gay men is a social experiment. (85–91) The voices behind these arguments all have their "justified" reasons why each point is true, but the truth is that each of these arguments have been fabricated based on stereotypes, personal opinions, and even their own insecurities. Because of these arguments and others like it, same–sex parents have been stripped of basic parental rights and benefits that heterosexual parents receive. Parental rights are things that rarely cross the minds of most heterosexual parents in America, until they are in jeopardy of losing them. For same–sex parents, parental rights are an everyday struggle for equality. There are dozens of limitations for same–sex parents. The most prominent are: 1. The Rights Of Same Sex Marriage Recognized as the Marriage Protection Amendment, Proposition 102 was placed on the ballot and passed by Arizona voters in 2008, amending the state's Constitution which defined the traditional sense of marriage between a man and a woman. However, on October 17, 2014, a federal judge disagreed with voters and overruled Prop 102, claiming that the ban on same–sex marriage was unconstitutional. Not long after the decision Attorney General Tom Horne stated that there would be no appeal and same–sex marriages would be legally honored in Arizona. Prior to the ruling, the ban on same–sex marriage had always been consistently upheld. The majority of Arizonans supported Prop 102 and they stood in agreement in their fight for the degree of protection that the law provided prohibiting same–sex marriage. In their attempt to preserve the institution of marriage, they came with arguments that were backed by research studies, science, health concerns and Christian values, giving them a convincing case that was based on much more than a simple definition of traditional marriage. Furthermore, in their fight against same–sex marriages, demonstrators at the State Capital brought their disagreement with class. They brought passion and discontent, but did so without the use of discrimination, nor was there an indication of homophobic, hate filled threats being shouted against the homosexual community as alleged. • 85. Same Sex Marriage : Gay Marriage And Human Rights Gay Marriage Imagine having a deep affection for someone, going to the ends of the world for them , and giving up everything to be with them but having all that taken away because of gender. Denying people basic human rights is inhuman. Are gay people not human? Not being able to marry the person you love based on something so simple as gender is ludicrous. As of 2017, 32% of Americans believe gay marriage is immoral and unnatural and oppose it, but 62% of Americans favor it (Mitchell). Gay marriage helps increase adoption rates, allows people to– love who they want with no limits, and lessens discrimination within human rights. Lesbians, gay, bisexual, and transgender, (LGBT) couples raise children just the same as heterosexual couples and arguably even better. 4% of adopted children in the United States are raised by LGBT couples (Adoptions). Just like hetrosexual couples it takes two partners in raising a child. Children often can talk to one parent more than the other, so why not have two of the same sex? LGBT families can expose a child to not only a judge–free lifestyle, but to an open mindset and more of a understanding toward society that everyone is the same. A study in 2010 showed that children with lesbian mothers were more socially and academically advanced. A similar study showed that children of gay fathers were as well rounded as their peers (Anderson). Although the parents are of the same sex the child as more of a benefit with a homosexual couple rather than a heterosexual couple. In addition to a stable family, humans have the right to be themselves. Not listening to other people's opinions is important because nobody should be forced to be someone they are not . In a survey by the Pew Research Center 84% voted that they were marrying for love (Kiley). Love is an attachment to someone a deep unity of gratification. Passionate love stands for compassion not just a feeling people get, this demonstration of love is brought out through vows and promises throughout a relationship. • 89. Same Sex Marriage And Civil Rights For Same-Sex Marriage Same–sex Marriage is a question that comes across my path on a consistent basis. The agency where I work advocates this practice, which requires yearly training videos to ensure everyone understands the rules of the practice. Although our society bends the laws to support this practice, I will argue that government laws do not hold true to God's law or even the law of nature. Additionally, I will argue that marriage, by natural law, is designed for procreating purposes. When someone thinks of marriage, it is two people, man, and woman, that have fallen in love, went through the ceremony, have children, and the circle of life begins. "Marriage has 'a specific orientation to having children. The first of Augustine's 'three goods' of marriage – children – would be inapplicable to covenant partnerships: the second and third goods – faithfulness and the 'bond of permanence' – would very much apply. • 93. Are Same Sex Marriages Right? Are same sex marriages right? Same sex marriage is allowable because everyone deserves to make their own decisions and choose the life they want. Every day there are people getting married and joining as partners to have a life together. So I say every person should do what their happiness is and if that falls under straight marriage or gay marriage then it should be socially acceptable. Same sex marriage is one of the top most controversional debates in politics currently because the United States is divided on the acceptance of it. Married people get a lot of benefits that aren't offered to un–married people. Government benefits offered to married people are favorable treatment in tax, inheritance, insurance status, rights for adoption, and custody. A big aspect of marriage is the religion of the couple; it must be approved by the authority of their religion. Not all religions require approval for marriage. Religions have the power to not marry people if they're eligible or ineligible by the state. The debate about same sex marriage is because the same sex couple won't be able to have kids of their own. The pro and cons about marriage is that every person, at some point, of their adult hood is looking for happiness, love, and someone who cares for them in return. Though these states and Washington, D.C. allow gay marriage, these couples still do not have the same rights and benefits as heterosexual couples. In other words, The British North America Act was not meant to be static, but to grow over time. This doctrine was explicitly referred to by the Court in Reference re Same–Sex Marriage. In response to interveners who claimed that the common law definition of marriage (one man and one woman) was entrenched in the Constitution, the Court argued that went against the living tree doctrine, which the Court referred to as "one of the most fundamental principles of Canadian constitutional interpretation." The Court was not interested in what marriage was in 1867, but rather they were concerned with what marriage was from the perspective of modern day Canada. This living tree ideology differs greatly from the originalism found on the US Supreme Court. Of course it was not just the Canadian Supreme Court that practices this doctrine, in the case of Halpern v. Canada, an Ontario court handed down another unanimous decision that ruled that the common law definition of marriage violated S.15 of the Charter. • 109. Equal Rights to Marry for Same-Sex Couples California Proposition 8: Same Sex Marriage The equal right to marry for same–sex couples in the United States has acquired growing public support over time, with a quantity of state–level laws passed and others presently up for debate. Proposition 8 was a ballot proposition and constitutional amendment that was passed in the November 2008 state elections in California. The measure added a new provision, Section 7.5 of the Declaration of Rights, to the California Constitution, which provides that only marriage between a man and a woman is legitimate or recognized in California. By limiting the acknowledgment of marriage to opposite–sex couples, the proposition reversed the California Supreme Court's ruling of In re Marriage Cases that same–sex couples have a constitutional right to get married (Newman, 2010). The wording of Proposition 8 was exactly the same as Proposition 22, which had passed in 2000 and, as an ordinary statute, had been nullified by the State Supreme Court in 2008. California's State Constitution put Proposition 8 into instant effect the day after the election (Scotto, 2010). Supporters of the constitutional amendment contended that solely heterosexual marriage was a necessary institution of society and that leaving the constitution untouched would result in public schools teaching the kids that gay marriage is okay, and that gays do not have the right to redefine marriage for everyone else. Believe it or not, sexual orientation is not protected under federal law the way race, color, sex, religion, national origin, age, and disability are for private employers. Although the law in this certain area is changing more and more, and for the better ("Sexual ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 117. Gay Rights Vs Same Law The question is some how hard to answer but I will do my best in answering to the best of my knowledge. Considering the fact that both values are important in making sure that everybody is happy, I think they should follow the law that requires all businesses to serve everyone regardless of their race, color, national origin, or creed. We are supposed to do what the law says and not what we think. But where it becomes complicated is where that same law gives everyone the freedom to say what they want and also the freedom of religion. In my opinion, I think the business owner were wrong, selling to the lesbian couples doesn't mean that they're engaging in the act or anything relating to that. If they law had said that nobody should sale to them it would have been a deferent matter entirely, but since that is not the case nobody should deny them of their right to patronize anybody. If anybody is not comfortable with they law that has been put in place they have the right to take it to the court and not take laws into their own hands by denying people of their right. A right can be given and can also be taken at the same time, therefore, it's the duty of the government to always decide. The fact that the government have that right make laws doesn't mean that they can do what they want at the expense of people happiness. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 121. Essay on Same Sex Couples Adoption Rights Should Same Sex Couples Have the Same Adoption Rights as Heterosexual Couples? Krystal Davis COM/220 March 13, 2012 Barbara Plyler Should Same Sex Couples Have the Same Adoption Rights as Heterosexual Couples? In 2008, President Barack Obama stated there are too many children who need loving parents to deny one group of people adoption rights (eQuality, 2005). A child will benefit from a healthy, loving home, whether the parents are gay or not (eQuality, 2005). With that statement in 2008 from the individual who holds the most powerful authority in the United States, why are gay and lesbian couples today still battling adoption laws? When in fact while trying to adopt and raise children a couple's sexual ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Miraculously in 2010 Florida acknowledged that the adoption ban was unconstitutional (eQuality, 2005). In previous years homosexuals interested in the adoption process would use foster care to acquire the same nurturing family that heterosexuals had acquired thus, circumventing the system. The unconstitutional ban had the ability to deter potential same sex adoptive parents because they feared automatic exclusion. With the increased pressure from the gay community to allow same sex adoptions many adoption agencies are becoming more accommodating to homosexuals. However, the obstacles that same sex couples encounter tend to minimize the whole family structure and make the family unit vulnerable (Brown, Smalling, Groza, & Ryan, 2009). Unfortunately, there is a number of legal hurdles gay and lesbian couples face when trying to adopt therefore, the system has to be circumvented. Also same sex couples encounter individuals who subconsciously and consciously discriminate through a variety of behaviors including evident harassment or social exclusion (Brown, Smalling, Groza, & Ryan, 2009). It would seem as if the drive to prevent same sex couples from the benefit of joint adoption starts with the discrimination of these couples rather than the welfare of the child (Johnson, n.d). In fact, these discriminations include accusations of psychological disorders and a higher occurrence of domestic violence. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 125. Essay on The Right to Same Sex Marriage Same sex marriage is a highly controversial topic that has been lingering in America for some time now. The American society prides itself in the provision of equal rights and opportunities to all, yet, homosexuals continue to be discriminated against and denied their rights to marriage. It is often believe that "marriage is a commitment between two people that love each other and want to share the rest of their life side by side. It is not measured by whether it is a man and a woman, or a couple of the same sex. It is measured by how much a couple loves each other and cares for each other." (Cheney, 2009) Looking at that definition of marriage, there should never be any reason to deny two people that love each other the right to legally ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, as today's society starts being more accepting to homosexuality, people will be more welcoming to homosexuality and then their communities will be less discriminatory and the argument of deteriorating the marriage institution will be meaningless. . "The problem with gay marriage, some opponents say, is that it will harm the society. This is a legitimate concern, and one that needs to be addressed. Marriage has played a very important role in society and it is a valuable institution. So in what way will gay marriage destroy heterosexual marriage or prevent it from continuing to function? Will it destroy the institution of marriage itself? Aside from the fact that whether or not a homosexual couple gets married has no impact whatsoever on any actual heterosexual marriage, there conceivably might be some negative repercussions. Opponents argue that gay marriage will devalue marriage itself. Aside from the questionable, and obviously homophobic, implication, it will undermine marriage because gays will make a mockery of it, supposedly because they are gay, this is implausible. It has been argued that gays want marriage rights because they value the institution and want in on it. Andrew Sullivan is clear on this point whenever he raises the issue. Any devaluation would stem from bigotry on the part of heterosexuals, that is, their unduly judging gay marriages ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 129. The Controversy Regarding Gay Rights And Same Sex Marriage The controversy regarding gay rights and same–sex marriage has been in the midst of us for hundreds of years, even more so now, after gay marriage has been legalized throughout the United States. Since the age of 12, when I educated myself on the point in question and was able to comprehend what had been occurring, I was unable to process how one could be as narcissistic and prejudiced so as to deprive two individuals the opportunity to unite. I've advocated in the favor of gays for many years now, and of course, I know lots of people who are against it. I, however, do not disapprove of those who disregard or over–look the consolidation of two people of the same sex coming together. I am simply opposed to their logic and ideologies. I've ... According to the American Academy of Pediatrics illustrated "children with gay parents and children with heterosexual parents show no differences in gender identity or gender role behaviors." A research carried out by Cambridge University consisted of finding differences and similarities between same sex couples and heterosexual of adoptive families. Researchers discovered "The differences that did emerge relate to levels of depressive symptoms in parents, which are especially low for gay fathers, and the contrasting pathways to adoption which was second choice for many of the heterosexual and some lesbian parents – but first choice for all but one of the gay parents." Not only does adoption rights for same sex couples help create families but also "Gay adoption increases the pool of couples who are able to adopt, which can move more children out of the child welfare system into a stable family. This is a pro not only for the child, but it also reduces the financial burden to taxpayers."(Child warfare System). Another Research study was taken in Australia, Dr. Simon Crouch notes that in same–sex couple parents have to "take on roles that are suited to their skill sets rather than falling into those gender stereotypes. This leads to a more harmonious family unit and therefore feeding on to better health and wellbeing." (Kids raised by same– sex couples are 'Healthier and Happier'). Through these studies there are positive responses that demonstrate same sex couples adoption does not cause any harmful insecurities to the child, they are found to be the same as a child raised by a heterosexual couple. In the minds of professionals a lot of things went wrong with the proposition 8 campaign. One of the biggest problems that the campaign came across was money. It takes a lot of money to pass a bill or to appose a bill. Proposition 8 was neck and neck for yes and no results. Yes on 8 campaign requested assistants from the Mormon community and minority homophobia. The Yes on 8 campaign was lead by leaders of Protect Marriage, the main group behind the ban. • 141. The Rights Of Same Sex Couples Soppho: Have you heard, Socrates, that our government is intending to extend the rights of marriages to same–sex couples? Under that change, gay partners will then be recognized equally as heterosexual husbands and wives. Socrates: Yes, but politicians and those in positions of influence have no business to mess with the standard of God relating to marriage, let alone decide to debate this issue as if it is open for discussion. Because of the way they are boasted, they don't have a proper perspective on themselves and where they fit in this life. The standard is clear by the way that men and women are made, so the coupling of heterosexuals is shown to be divine. Soppho: That's bigotry, if you will feel the love between homosexuals is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Crazy, right? Road to equality! Socrates: Here's what you have to understand about bans on interracial marriage: they were designed to divide the races, and that was and is wrong. Traditional marriage encourages and supports bringing the genders together, which is good. Ethnicity is not a fundamental merit or facet of marriage. But gender is. Therefor, including interracial couples does not draw an analogy for the redefinition of marriage. Interracial, opposite–sex couples can still produce biological children together. Same–sex marriage is a redefinition of marriage–that's something very different. Soppho: First, you have some things right (tradition, racism) but fail to provide an example of when it is ever okay to pass a form of discrimination against gay people. Second, if restricting the legality of marriage based on race is what you say it is – racial discrimination – why ban the legal recognition of a choice of partner on the basis of gender? That would qualify as sex discrimination. Socrates: Must our jurisdiction then permit the marriage between polygamous parties? If marriage is redefined so that the sex of spouses is irrelevant, why stop there? It can be further refined so that even the age and blood relation of the spouses is also irrelevant. If marriage is a fundamental rights issue, there can be no grounds for saying no to polygamists or non–consenting unions. Soppho: Setting aside how ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Same Sex Marriage Should Be Equal Rights Another persuasive data is the constitutions which is based on the civil rights protection and ensure that each citizens has the right to participate in public social life. According to records, there are plenty of international civil rights declaration documents consider marriage and family as "individuals or groups who are entitled to the protection of the government as human beings." The US Supreme Court ruled by a 5–to–4 vote on Friday that constitution guarantees a right to homosexual marriage which based on the constitution to protect each person 's own decision and equal rights, to determine the same sex and heterosexual couples should have equal marriage rights. Actually, for same–sex couples, the adoption of a child or artificial insemination procedures will be troublesome, there will be a lot of issues and problems. Moreover, there are few countries in the world that allow same–sex couples to bring up their children, and many people will choose to give up in the process. Because of the lack of family, some people suppose that such a marriage is not necessary. For example, it is mentioned by Bernheim Gilles in "HOMOSEXUAL MARRIAGE, PARENTING, AND ADOPTION" that adoption by same sex couples may influence the child psychology even it is worse for healthy grow up(Bernheim, 2013). Under the society without universal same sex relationship, it is real exist that the child from heterosexual family confuse about the child from homosexual family. Besides, even they would laugh at them and say some offensive words to query why they cannot live with a mother and a father. Afterward, there is no doubt that most of children who attacked by the language will appear psychological problems and easily to lose confidence of their family. The feeling that they are different from others will be deeper day by day. Consequently, it seems that combine a family bring the painful and bother to the child, hence, the right to adopt a child can be left to infertility families. • 149. Same Sex Marriage Is A Fundamental Right In June 2015, the United States Supreme Court, in a 5–4 decision, held that same–sex marriage is a fundamental right guaranteed by the due process and equal protection clauses of the Fourteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution. In consequence, many new legal implications have arose from this decision. For example, now there'll be same–sex divorces, same–sex spousal rights for life insurance, wills, and the like. What does this all mean legally for same–sex couples? As time progresses, it will become clearer how exactly these issues will be expanded to same–sex marriages, but now we discuss these issues as they stand today. Divorce Divorce cannot be that different since prior to the Supreme Court's landmark ruling, many states had already legalized same–sex marriage. In fact, soon after the decision, a same–sex divorce was filed for in New Orleans, Louisiana. Logically, same–sex divorce should not differ for same–sex couples as the divorcing couple must go through the same steps as a heterosexual couple. The hurdle here is that many states that previously did not acknowledge same–sex marriage, must now learn how to marry and divorce same–sex couples. This should not cause much trouble since same–sex marriage is recognized amongst all–states, making it even easier for same–sex couple's to get divorced. In many states in order to obtain a divorce there are residency requirements, meaning that you must be a resident of that state for a certain time period in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 153. Gay Rights Vs Same Sex Marriage Some more examples of our freedoms being expanded include the second amendment and the recent law on same sex marriage. With the second amendment which is the right to bare arms, citizens now have the option to carry a firearm on them always. This plays a huge role in our society today due to the many terrorist attacks that are happening around the world. With more people carrying weapons on them, we can now defend ourselves from dangerous situations and help defend others during these terrorist attacks. Now with same sex marriage finally legal, many individuals can now marry and finalize their marriage with their significant other of the same sex. This became legal with the help of the Obama administration when he attended office during the years 2008–2016. For example, back in the day, same sex marriage was illegal, and this was an obstacle for homosexual individuals because to them, they did not have the same rights as straight people did. Hence, this made it very hard for the homosexual couples to express their love because at the time of this being illegal, to the public it was not "politically correct Before I begin to discuss the next 10 years of this country, I would like to first talk about the previous 5–10 years.
