3. INTRODUCTION
In the middle of the “Karakum Desert”, lies the
most magnificent and incredible lesser-known
wonders of the world, the “Gate Way TO Hell”.
This crater, is a large burning hole on the
surface of the EARTH which is 60 meters wide and 20
meters deep. Due to the extensive fire it is know as
“gate-way to hell”.
This crater, is situated near a small village
named “DARWAZ” in TURKMENISTAN.

Near, the small village of DARWAAZ, are
inexhaustible reservoirs of fuel gas.
In 1971, the “Soviet-Union” geologists, find a
huge cluster of Gas reservoir. As a result of
excavations and drilling exploratory wells the
geologists stumbled on an underground cavern.
Which resulted in the creation of a hole filled with
poisonous gas. As a matter of fact, all the
equipments and the vehicles were rigged in the hole.
To protect the locals, from the intoxication the
geologists burned the hole, thinking that the fire
would extinguished within a few days or weeks.
6. This incident took place in 1971 and till today
this crater is still burning, like it was in 1971. the real
loss of natural resources.
The locals have also formed many of the
myths, regarding the crater.

7. Tourism
The huge loss of “Natural Gas” for
Turkmenistan. But as it is said, every occurrence has
a positive reason.
This crater, has attracted the tourists, in this
part of Turkmenistan. First people used to crave for
the “ARORA BEAMS” but now they are also
attracted towards the “PORTAL TO HELL”.
This crater is not something natural, its an human
error. Despite of it, it has gain much fame. And the
way it glows at night, has attracted the tourists a lot.
10. myth’s for the crater
Some of the locals are reported to have said that it
will bring the end to Earth. However it is not proven
yet but the are some hypothesis that if the fire
ignited underground it might cause a huge blast.

One more amazing fact, that in winter or even in
rains, this crater was not litted off.
