Gas metal-arc welding (GMAW), also known as metal inert gas (MIG) welding, utilizes an inert shielding gas and a consumable wire fed into a weld arc. It is mainly suitable for welding thin sheets of ferrous and nonferrous metals due to the lower temperatures generated. The process is user-friendly, economical, and results in higher productivity compared to submerged-arc welding.
