- 1. Game Sense Learning through play
- 2. What do we mean by ‘Game Sense’? Too many times have we been amazed by professional athletes and their decision making abilities during high intensity games. They develop this ability over many years of consistent intellectually stimulating physical education. In modern teaching, we call this ‘Game Sense’. It is an approach to teaching which emphasizes on creativity and questioning, rather than instruction (Towns, 2002).
- 3. What do we mean by ‘Game Sense’? Step by step modelled and guided procedures ensure that students learn and develop at their own pace. Having a teacher who understands and knows the classroom well will ensure each and every student is engaged and included during PE sessions (Townsend, 2007).
- 4. How does it help my child? Inclusiveness: Students develop social skills such as teamwork and healthy competitiveness. They learn to be more inclusive. Students who don’t usually participate in PE feel more comfortable being involved (Board of Studies, 2007).
- 5. How does it help my child? Confidence builder: When students learn new motor skills by taking lessons one step at a time while playing a game, they become more confident in their own physical ability as they get better (Board of Studies, 2007).
- 6. How does it help my child? Decision making: Students are left to make decisions on their own. Games are manipulated for each group separately to challenge each student to their ability. Students enjoy playing games that are fair to their strength while challenging enough to have them make decisions as well as push themselves physically (Light, 2006).
