The recent outbreak of novel coronavirus, SARS-CoV-2 or COVID-19, discovered in late 2019, being continued to spread across regions worldwide, has resulted in 1,914,916 “confirmed” cases with up to 123,010 deaths, as in situation report –85 by World Health Organization (WHO). Most of the developed disease monitoring and tracking tools currently available only present the reported cases up to country-level and not detail down to provincial- or state-, city- level within the countries. This is insignificant for supporting activities in quickly reducing and preventing the spread of the disease within a certain country because further detail potential infectious locations are not provided for people to avoid traveling or passing by there. Thus, this work presents an open toolbox for generating map of actively “Confirmed” cases in a country, i.e., Vietnam, given a dataset containing their statuses and current locations, detail down to provincial-or state-, city-level. The newly released algorithm reduced approximately 24.41% of processing time of the preceding one. In addition, the algorithm can be easily extended for supporting other countries given suitable datasets.

Assessment of the Spatial and Temporal Trend of the COVID-19 Pandemic in SenegalAI Publications
Following the declaration of COVID-19 as a global pandemic and the reporting of one case in Senegal, the number of regions with confirmed cases of infection increased considerably, with the disease now being reported throughout the country after 3 months of evolution. It is therefore necessary to assess the evolution of the disease in the country as the situation evolves in order to rapidly identify best practices for adoption. The objective of this paper is to make a preliminary spatial and temporal assessment and comparison of the results of the COVID-19 pandemic in the regions of Senegal. Data on the evolution of COVID-19 (confirmed cases of infection, deaths, recoveries), population, density and area of each region were analysed using a set of statistical tools. The results show that the COVID-19 pandemic has spread stubbornly in Senegal. In the space of 112 days (from March 2 to June 21), Senegal reached a number of 5888 infected cases for 3919 cured, 1885 active and 84 deaths for a total of 67855 tests performed. About 40 people out of 10,000 have been tested so far and 4 out of 10,000 have tested positive. The Mann-Kendall test indicates that the number of confirmed daily cases is slowly increasing, with the slope of Sen estimated at about 1.2 person/day across the country. In addition, the Pettitt test indicates a sharp change in the upward trend across the country on April 26, 2020. Among the main affected regions, Dakar, Thies and Touba are noted with an extremely high rate of increase. Principal component analysis and hierarchical ascending classification have made it possible to divide Senegal's 14 regions into 3 groups in terms of the number of confirmed cases, active cases, recovered cases and reported deaths, and the population, area and density of the region. The 1st group concerns the Dakar region, the 2nd Diourbel and Thies and the 3rd the other regions. Furthermore, statistics related to COVID-19 in the regions of Senegal are highly correlated with population size and density. This study revealed convincing spatial differences in the evolution of the pandemic between the regions of Senegal. The study recommends that the approaches adopted by regions that have achieved very low levels of COVID-19 be incorporated into health care management plans for the pandemic throughout the country, even as the situation evolves.
Corona virus pandemic impact on digital advertising industryYieldbird
The safety measures imposed by the governments of almost all countries to protect their citizens will most probably trigger a period of economic turmoil much bigger than the 2008 crisis. This means that while protecting our health, we need to also start thinking about the future. To make this situation at least a little easier, we have decided to compile the most important knowledge we possess in terms of the potential future implications of the pandemic; and we have set out ways to navigate this difficult situation. We hope the will prove useful to you in terms of making all necessary business decisions.

In a May 9, 2024 paper, Juri Opitz from the University of Zurich, along with Shira Wein and Nathan Schneider form Georgetown University, discussed the importance of linguistic expertise in natural language processing (NLP) in an era dominated by large language models (LLMs).
The authors explained that while machine translation (MT) previously relied heavily on linguists, the landscape has shifted. “Linguistics is no longer front and center in the way we build NLP systems,” they said. With the emergence of LLMs, which can generate fluent text without the need for specialized modules to handle grammar or semantic coherence, the need for linguistic expertise in NLP is being questioned.

team)
Case 065 is still on the run despite being an active case
Occurrence of COVID-19 among healthcare workers
Frequent power outages in the PHEOC due to the reliance on NAWEC
Overcrowding at some video clubs with the recommencement of Europe’s football leagues
Cost borne by government at designated quarantine facilities is prohibitive and may be unsustainable
A high-risk contact of one of the cases (a taxi driver who drove him) is at large
Delay in getting a functional e-surveillance system that would ensure the availability of real-time response data
Truck drivers, carrying essential commodities, are being allowed to enter the country from locations with
ongoing community transmission of COVID-19

V. NEXT STEPS/RECOMMENDATIONS:
IPC measures should be strictly adhered to in all healthcare settings
The search for Case 065 needs to be intensified in order to halt the potential spread of the virus by him
Testing of all healthcare workers and patients at EFSTH (including the polyclinic)
Provision of adequate stocks of PPEs to all health facilities
Health workers to observe all COVID-19 preventive measures including the donning of appropriate PPEs at all
times
Ensure there is uninterrupted electricity supply either by the procurement and installation of a solar system or the
provision of a standby generator
Fumigation of the ferries and the ferry terminals
Mass testing targeting taxi drivers and other high-risk groups
Testing of low-risk contacts at commencement and end of follow-up
Video clubs should remain closed despite the resumption of Europe’s football leagues
Government to come up with a more sustainable alternative for quarantine
There should be more security presence at all points of entry around the country to ensure no people are smuggled
Expedite the process of getting all relevant response staff trained on e-surveillance
