GAFAnomics is spreading globally as a new economy characterized by specific business models, costs, and rapid change. Google created the parent company Alphabet to separate its core search business from riskier innovation projects. While GAFA continue to succeed overall, they have also experienced some high-profile failures as they struggle to consistently innovate and avoid missteps in new areas. This underscores both the opportunities and challenges that come with operating in an economy shaped by GAFAnomics' fast pace and scale.

The Internet of Things (IoT) is generating profound changes across many industries and business models. With the proliferation of connected devices and sensors, and the massive amounts of data being generated, traditional boundaries between sectors are blurring and new ecosystems are emerging. Some companies have already adapted to their new roles, while others risk losing value if they do not define IoT strategies. To stay competitive, firms urgently need to anticipate how customer experiences and relationships may change with new IoT-enabled products and services.

In military slang, “ground truth” describes the reality of a situation as opposed to what intelligence reports and mission plans assert that reality to be. In a research context, being on location, in-person, with consumers is impossibly time consuming and expensive, making it rare that researchers can truly establish ground truth. But smart phones and mobile qualitative research have changed that. We can now be there whenever and wherever key behaviors happen.
Here are five ways to use digital qual to access the ground truth of consumer behaviors.
Meemo

4. Gently break apart the pellet using your fingers or dissection tools like forceps. Be careful of any small bones that could puncture your gloves.
5. Examine the contents under the microscope or with a magnifying glass. Identify any fur, feathers, bones or other remains and record your findings.

Contextual inquiry is an ethnographic research method where users are observed and questioned in their natural work environments. It involves briefly interviewing users, observing them without interrupting as they work, and summarizing insights with them. Key principles are conducting the inquiry in the actual work context, collaborating as partners to understand the user's work, sharing interpretations with the user, and focusing on relevant topics. Researchers should be likable to put users at ease, avoid audio/video recording, and capture artifacts like photos or notes.
