This document discusses Gadfly, an extension to Pandas that allows for efficient loading and analysis of large astronomical simulation data stored in HDF5 files. Gadfly subclasses Pandas DataFrame to implement custom methods for loading HDF5 data using hpy while enabling dynamic memory management. It also uses Numba to optimize volume rendering of 3D data, a process that would normally require slow nested for loops. More details on Gadfly are available on Github and in a paper by the author Jacob Hummel. He is seeking data science opportunities in Salt Lake City, Utah.
