FUNDRAISING
PACK
WELCOME TO
This pack will give you essential information about
homelessness and what we do at the Cathedral Archer Project.
It will help you to challenge your own mindset and stereotypes
about homelessness and help you to organise your own
FUNdraising events to support homeless people in Sheffield and
make a real difference for the city!
THANK YOU
for
SUPPORTING
CATHEDRAL ARCHER PROJECT
1
SENSE DAY
Be SILENT
and GIVE VOICES
to the
homeless !!!
Sense Day is
a brilliant way
to raise
awareness of
Homelessness.
TIPS & TRICKS:
Set a realistic but
challenging period of silence
for extra FUN
Pupils are allowed to
communicate by white boards
or post-it notes! You can
suggest a donation of £1
for it! To make it even more
exciting, only allow the
children to communicate
using pictures! It helps them
to understand
how difficult
to be heard without a voice.
Set a fundraising target and
get the whole school
involved!
Because Senseless is the way the world
SEES homelessness and homeless people...
2
A BOX LIFE
A Sponsored Box Day!!!
IDEAS:
Simple&Fun: Who can sit on a
box the longest?
Creative&Competitive: Who can
build the best thing out of a
box? (A house, a boat, or a car?)
Adventurous: A Scout Hunt! Ask
pupils to bring their own boxes
to sleep in. They would
understand how hard it is to live
in a box everyday!
Because we are ALL the same
And we all can become homeless....
ON THE DAY:
Explain to your students how
homeless people sleep.
Sometimes they have to walk
at night to keep warm...or
cramp themselves in a box!
Their homes can get wet easily,
and they are not very warm.
This activity can help students
better understand the impact
of not having a bed to sleep at
night; and cherish what they
often take for granted.
DON'T FORGET TO PREPARE SOME
TREATS FOR THE WINNDER
What can you
do with your boxes?
Boxes mean Easy, Fun & Creative
3
DANCE FOR A HOME
WHAT IS DANCE FOR A HOME?
A dance marathon to help raise funds
and awareness of homelessness
HOW DOES IT WORK?
The Dance-a-thon can be student-led or
teacher-led! You can set the length of
the thon (e.g. 30 minutes, 1 hour, or
even more!), and of course NO SITTING!
Dance is a fun way to engage and connect
people. In the winter, homeless people
have to walk or move non-stop to keep
warm, especially in the night. So this is a
great way for your pupils to have fun,
better understand the hardship of
homelessness, and raise some money to
help!
DANCE TO FIGHTHOMELESSNESS
HOW CAN I RAISE FUNDS?
You can charge people to join the dancing
extravaganza by asking them to pay to
enter the event or ask participants to raise
funds before the events using the
fundraising websites or sponsorship forms!
WHAT WILL I NEED?
A place for your pupils to dance (e.g.,
auditorium or gymnastics room)
A good DJ and dance instructors
Morale captains to keep everyone
enthusiastic! Fun costume can help too!
Some posters to spread the world!
You can sell water and snacks on the
day too. Proceedings will go to the
charity!
4
WALK THE COLD AWAY
Walking is the most fun and
easiest way to FUNdraising!
You choose the route. You make
the rules.
You organise a big walk and get
everyone involved.
Every mile you walk and every
pound you raise will help people
to change their lives.
HOW?
SOME IDEAS
Encourage as many people as
possible. Ask kids to bring
siblings, neighbours, friends,
etc.
Set up small stalls for small
cash selling drinks, lollipops,
popcorn, candy floss, etc.
This is not only aFUN activity but alsoa great learninginitiative. Kids willlearn about
kindness,
responsibility to thecommunity, andteamwork.
5
HUNT FUN
The length and complexity is UP to you.
SUGGESTIONS
Hosting a quick treasure hunt in campus during lunch break.
The treasure can be one day non-uniform or small but
exciting prizes
Kids have to pay a small fee (50p-£1 depending on how
many clues you have) to have the right to answer a question
from teachers about homelessness. One right answer means
one clue (e.g. the map or pieces of the map) to the location
of the treasure.
CLUES
1. Name 3 reasons why people can be homeless?
2. Where do you sleep when you are homeless?
3. What do you do if it rains and you are homeless?
4. Where can you eat if you are homeless?
5. Write a poem about homeless people!!
6. What you have but a homeless person does not have?
7. What do you think a homeless person has to carry with them?
8. How can a homeless person keep clean?
9. Where can a homeless person get help and support?
10. Can homeless happen to anyone?
6
Christmas Fundraising Ideas
It is the time of the year for GIVING!
Therefore, we have some ideas ready for you
to do some quick, easy, and meaningful
activities in your school!
Coin trail
Ask children to collect changes at home to bring to
school. Compete in teams/classes to see who can build
the longest trail.
Auction of Promises
Pupils will propose their promises for their parents such
as pet care, dog walking, meal for two, tutoring, slave
for a day, cleaning the house, go to bed early, give up
chocolate, well-behaved for a day, etc. and let their
parents bid for it using a form. Donations will be
collected at schools.
Parents can also join to offer each other promises such
as 2 hour of ironing, cleaning, cooking, etc.
Fun Dressing Day
Children pay £1 to wear costumes to school. Set the
theme for extra fun (e.g. superman)
Chocolate Day
Kids can bring chocolate to school for £1 or teachers can
set up a chocolate stall to sell!
7
Challenges in Every Lesson
Your children have to think creatively, and
those activities contribute to the curriculum
too!
ART & DESIGN
A Box Life gave the students a
chance to design their own boxes.
You can encourage them to create
personal, expressive spaces by
asking them to decorate their boxes
with pictures of things that make
them happy. You can even turn the
classroom or hall into a gallery and
invite parents to see their creations.
SCIENCE
Natural outdoor
spaces can be explored
with Walk the Cold
Away! See how many
different types of
leaves the children can
find, trying to
experimenting with
different materials.
ENGLISH & PSHE
SENSE DAY is a great chance to
encourage children to write poems about
homelessness and homeless people. You
can teach them to write official letters to
local MP to question about the housing
problems.
Talking about basic human needs and
asking questions about humanity,
empathy, and kindness. Suggest pupils
to think of solutions for homelessness.
8
ACTIVITY GUIDE
ON
THE
DAY
SHOW THEM WHY IT MATTERS
Talk to your students about what is
homelessness and why people become
homeless. More resources to help you do
this is at the end! Explain the plan of
activities and how their donations can
help!
GET EVERYONE INVOLVED
It's time for everyone's imagination. See if
your pupils can come up with little things
that we take for granted when we have a
home!!
GET FUNDRAISING
Tell your pupils and everyone you can
about the day. Get the sponsor form or set
up a fundraising page (we can help you
with that) so everyone can start
fundraising! We also provide a lot of
materials in this pack to help you easily
fundraise!
9
Challenge the Stereotypes!!!
People with nice clothes are better than people with old and dirty clothes?
People with big houses are kinder than people with small houses?
People with houses are smarter than people without a home?

Ask your children what they do after school. Some might say that they get picked up by parents,
go home, change clothes, play games, open the fridge to have food, have dinner, brush their teeth,
close the curtain of the window, lie down on bed...Homeless people have NONE of these privileges.
They have no door to open, no spare and clean clothes to change, no food, no bedroom...That is
what CAP provides them: a sense of belonging, a chance to be ''normal'' again.
Tom's Story
One day when I went back home from school, my parents were just gone.
They disappeared. I was 12.
I lived with my auntie, then with friends and on off ever since. I came
here 4 years ago. They helped me to get an accommodation, they helped
me to stop drinking, and they offered me a volunteering job.
The hardest thing when I was homeless was to find somewhere safe to
sleep, to feel secured. In the winter it was very cold...I tried to break into
empty houses to sleep, otherwise I would have to be on the street or
doorway.
Being asked what his 3 wishes are, Tom said he wants to see his kids, to
become a Michelin-starred chef, and to have his own house.
Tom nearly finishes his NVQ and is working in the Cathedral Archer
Project kitchen. Tom just got a part-time job and he is more than eager to
get a full-time job in the future when he passes his NVQ.
''Chef is like my mama.
He taught me everything.
I will always come back
to the project, they help
me to be where I am
today. I want to have my
own restaurant in the
next 10 years".
15
Catherine's Story
I've got a better opportunity now than what I ever had before...It’s the first time
I've ever had this amount of help, ...finding someone you can trust, when you’re
ready to do that work, cos you can’t just pick somebody out and say, we’ll do that
then, you’ve got to want to do it, you’ve got to want to come off the drugs, and
you've got to want to do that yourself. No amount of funding or anything else will
get you off of that, you've got to do that.
But...having Sam working with me, cos she knows me. She knows my pitfalls.
Because tackling
homelessness is
not as easy as
putting a roof on
someone's head.
We take people off the street and give them alternative things to do
with their time, and also alternative future...see if we can change
people's lives and expectations and aspirations.
--Tim Renshaw, CEO of Cathedral Archer Project
I now have a reason to wake up in the morning.
16
What Can You Do Now?
We don’t need to give every homeless person we see a £20
note, or become BFFs with them; but there’s no reason for
fear.
Support organisations like the Cathedral Archer Project so
we can continue our support services to help homeless
people control and change their lives.
Look at them in the eye and recognize them as a person can
be very affirming.
Do what you can to raise people's awareness about
homelessness.
THE BEST WAY TO HELP...

  • 16. Tom's Story One day when I went back home from school, my parents were just gone. They disappeared. I was 12. I lived with my auntie, then with friends and on off ever since. I came here 4 years ago. They helped me to get an accommodation, they helped me to stop drinking, and they offered me a volunteering job. The hardest thing when I was homeless was to find somewhere safe to sleep, to feel secured. In the winter it was very cold...I tried to break into empty houses to sleep, otherwise I would have to be on the street or doorway. Being asked what his 3 wishes are, Tom said he wants to see his kids, to become a Michelin-starred chef, and to have his own house. Tom nearly finishes his NVQ and is working in the Cathedral Archer Project kitchen. Tom just got a part-time job and he is more than eager to get a full-time job in the future when he passes his NVQ. ''Chef is like my mama. He taught me everything. I will always come back to the project, they help me to be where I am today. I want to have my own restaurant in the next 10 years". 15
  • 17. Catherine's Story I've got a better opportunity now than what I ever had before...It’s the first time I've ever had this amount of help, ...finding someone you can trust, when you’re ready to do that work, cos you can’t just pick somebody out and say, we’ll do that then, you’ve got to want to do it, you’ve got to want to come off the drugs, and you've got to want to do that yourself. No amount of funding or anything else will get you off of that, you've got to do that. But...having Sam working with me, cos she knows me. She knows my pitfalls. Because tackling homelessness is not as easy as putting a roof on someone's head. We take people off the street and give them alternative things to do with their time, and also alternative future...see if we can change people's lives and expectations and aspirations. --Tim Renshaw, CEO of Cathedral Archer Project I now have a reason to wake up in the morning. 16
  • 18. What Can You Do Now? We don’t need to give every homeless person we see a £20 note, or become BFFs with them; but there’s no reason for fear. Support organisations like the Cathedral Archer Project so we can continue our support services to help homeless people control and change their lives. Look at them in the eye and recognize them as a person can be very affirming. Do what you can to raise people's awareness about homelessness. THE BEST WAY TO HELP... 17
