Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.
This is a presentation by Dada Robert in a Your Skill Boost masterclass organised by the Excellence Foundation for South Sudan (EFSS) on Saturday, the 25th and Sunday, the 26th of May 2024.
He discussed the concept of quality improvement, emphasizing its applicability to various aspects of life, including personal, project, and program improvements. He defined quality as doing the right thing at the right time in the right way to achieve the best possible results and discussed the concept of the "gap" between what we know and what we do, and how this gap represents the areas we need to improve. He explained the scientific approach to quality improvement, which involves systematic performance analysis, testing and learning, and implementing change ideas. He also highlighted the importance of client focus and a team approach to quality improvement.

We all have good and bad thoughts from time to time and situation to situation. We are bombarded daily with spiraling thoughts(both negative and positive) creating all-consuming feel , making us difficult to manage with associated suffering. Good thoughts are like our Mob Signal (Positive thought) amidst noise(negative thought) in the atmosphere. Negative thoughts like noise outweigh positive thoughts. These thoughts often create unwanted confusion, trouble, stress and frustration in our mind as well as chaos in our physical world. Negative thoughts are also known as “distorted thinking”.

How Race, Age and Gender Shape Attitudes Towards Mental HealthThinkNow
Mental health has been in the news quite a bit lately. Dozens of U.S. states are currently suing Meta for contributing to the youth mental health crisis by inserting addictive features into their products, while the U.S. Surgeon General is touring the nation to bring awareness to the growing epidemic of loneliness and isolation. The country has endured periods of low national morale, such as in the 1970s when high inflation and the energy crisis worsened public sentiment following the Vietnam War. The current mood, however, feels different. Gallup recently reported that national mental health is at an all-time low, with few bright spots to lift spirits.
To better understand how Americans are feeling and their attitudes towards mental health in general, ThinkNow conducted a nationally representative quantitative survey of 1,500 respondents and found some interesting differences among ethnic, age and gender groups.
Technology
For example, 52% agree that technology and social media have a negative impact on mental health, but when broken out by race, 61% of Whites felt technology had a negative effect, and only 48% of Hispanics thought it did.
While technology has helped us keep in touch with friends and family in faraway places, it appears to have degraded our ability to connect in person. Staying connected online is a double-edged sword since the same news feed that brings us pictures of the grandkids and fluffy kittens also feeds us news about the wars in Israel and Ukraine, the dysfunction in Washington, the latest mass shooting and the climate crisis.
Hispanics may have a built-in defense against the isolation technology breeds, owing to their large, multigenerational households, strong social support systems, and tendency to use social media to stay connected with relatives abroad.
Age and Gender
When asked how individuals rate their mental health, men rate it higher than women by 11 percentage points, and Baby Boomers rank it highest at 83%, saying it’s good or excellent vs. 57% of Gen Z saying the same.
Gen Z spends the most amount of time on social media, so the notion that social media negatively affects mental health appears to be correlated. Unfortunately, Gen Z is also the generation that’s least comfortable discussing mental health concerns with healthcare professionals. Only 40% of them state they’re comfortable discussing their issues with a professional compared to 60% of Millennials and 65% of Boomers.
Race Affects Attitudes
As seen in previous research conducted by ThinkNow, Asian Americans lag other groups when it comes to awareness of mental health issues. Twenty-four percent of Asian Americans believe that having a mental health issue is a sign of weakness compared to the 16% average for all groups. Asians are also considerably less likely to be aware of mental health services in their communities (42% vs. 55%) and most likely to seek out information on social media (51% vs. 35%).

2. It's time to figure out how to bring the big
tables back Most of the time when I was
checking libraries, magazines, the internet,
or others, most people or writers were not
considering the implications of the family. I
can't tell you how surprised I was to find so
few resources on this subject. It's the main
reason I decided to write Family at all.
The preliminary investigation that I
conducted with a few people on interviews
resulted in the majority of them having
approximate answers. Some responded that
family is a faith and a way of life, while
others stated that it is the small country
that will create the largest. It should have
nothing to do with blood. I agreed on those
various points of view. But, in my opinion,
family is the first
school in a person's life, and our family
values and traditions are our most valuable
asset. I come from a very close-knit nuclear
family made up of parents and their
children who typically live in the same
house.
I adore all of my family members exactly as
they are. My parents are both employed. My
father is a stern disciplinarian. He wants us
to be reasonable in every decision we make
in life. We had to dress appropriately. As the
president or head of the family and the
house, he is always showing us the path we
should take and where we should go, and
my mother is a strict disciplinarian,
especially with my sister, who cannot sit in
the coffee ceremony or dining room with
her legs crossed. This
may appear amusing, but discipline is
extremely beneficial. My parents are both
very active and hardworking people. They
assist us in achieving our goals. They used
to live as a multigenerational family.
By DANIEL_DEGEMU_ABZA
MULTI GENERATIONAL FAMILY
However. They are surrounded by their
father, mother, aunts, grandmothers,
grandfathers, uncles, and other relatives.
They used to rely on a dozen eyes to catch
them when they fell. Here, I'd like to look at
why multi generational families are breaking
up and nuclear families are growing. While I
expected one of the world's countless
marriage and family writers and thinkers to
address this issue, none seem to grasp how
the transition from multi generational family
teams to nuclear families is at the root of so
many of the other symptoms they discuss.
We don't talk about family enough when
discussing the country's problems. It comes
across as too judgmental. It might even be
too uncomfortable. However, the nuclear
family has been slowly crumbling for
decades, and many of our other problems
with education, mental health, addiction, and
labor force quality stem from that crumbling.
Most people do not expect it to return.
Ethiopians seek to live in extended families,
in ways that are both new and ancient. This is
a significant opportunity, an opportunity to
strengthen and broaden family relationships,
an opportunity to allow more adults and
children to live and grow under the loving
gaze of a dozen pairs of eyes, and to be
caught when they fall, by a dozen pairs of
arms. We've been eating at smaller and
smaller tables for decades, with fewer and
fewer families. It's time to figure out how to
bring the big tables back.
To summarize the article, I'd like to pose a
question to you. What does family mean to
you, and do you prefer nuclear or multi
generational families?
3. A LITTLE KINDNESS CAN
MAKE A BIG DIFFERENCE!
BY SELAMAWIT ALEMU
Bachiller, a People's Party member, worked as an
administrative assistant in City Hall for over two
years before running for office in 2011. Although
Bachiller did not win a seat in that election,
finishing 18th out of 17 candidates, she took
office two years later when Jess Garca Galván
was forced to resign due to a corruption scandal.
While some may try to downplay Bachiller's
success by pointing out that she did not win the
election outright, it should be noted that if
people with Down Syndrome were allowed to
vote in Spain, she very well could have. While
there is no outright ban on people with
intellectual disabilities voting, people with Down
Syndrome are usually declared "incapable" by
Spanish courts. Such a ruling, intended to
protect them from fraud and exploitation, also
revokes their right to vote, making it all the
more impressive that Bachiller was able to hold a
position when she couldn't even vote for herself.
What matters most is that her family did not
overprotect her. She is tenacious and capable of
completing her tasks at all times.
Angela Bachiller, a happy woman living a normal
life, is a woman like many others, despite making
history. She enjoys her Latin dance, English, and
music theory classes, and she also plays the
piano. She enjoys reading and traveling, and she
claims she was never bullied in school. Because
her parents let her to be an ordinary child.
That really helped her to achieve what ordinary
people can achieve. Allows them to be regular
children and play freely then you will see the
outcome!
Angela Covadonga Bachiller is a people’s party
city councilor from Valladolid in Spain. She was
sworn in as Spain’s first city councilor with down
syndrome on July 29, 2013. She had previously
worked as an administrative assistant at
Valladolid city hall for two and half years.
She was given the opportunity to speak after a
fellow people’s party politician stepped down.
Angela has always had her parents' support.
Isabel Guerra, her mother, explains that her
daughter has always led a normal life. She goes
out with her friends to play sports, go to the
movies, eat dinner, and so on.
She started school at the age of one. Her parents
understood that a good education was the most
valuable asset for their daughter's future.
Actually, the first time her mother left the house
after giving birth to Angela was to apply for a job
at the same center where her three-year-old
sister was studying. We put a lot of emphasis on
education because we knew that without
discipline and knowledge, you can't get
anywhere, says Isabel. She began her political
career in 2011 when she began working at
Valladolid City Hall in Spain.

4. Fashion is defined in a number of different ways, and its application can be sometimes
unclear. Fashion design is the art of applying design, aesthetics, clothing construction
and natural beauty to clothing and its accessories. It is influenced by culture and
different trends, and has varied over time and place.
A fashion designer creates clothing, including
dresses, suits, pants, and skirts, and accessories
like shoes and handbags, for consumers.
He or she can specialize in clothing, accessory, or
jewelry design, or may work in more than one of
these areas. It is also a source of art, allowing
people to display their unique tastes and styling.
Shawl
A common shawl that both men and women
use often is the shamma. It is a thin cotton
shawl that would traditionally indicate the
rank and status of a person in society. This
position in the societal hierarchy would be
decided by the weight of the shawl, the number
of layers, thickness and quality of the shawl.
Shemma
Shema is Ethiopian cotton and the production
of it is Ethiopia's oldest industry. Traditionally the
cotton was hand spun and woven on handlooms.
Even though there is a significant part of the
Ethiopian cotton industry that is now industrialized
there are still a large number of rational hand
spinners and weavers.

5. Pay attention in class.
Take good notes.
Plan ahead for tests and projects.
Break it down. (If you have a bunch of
stuff to learn, break it into smaller
chunks.)
Ask for help if you get stuck.
Get a good night's sleep!
Someone probably gave you a few lessons and
then you practiced a lot. You can learn how to
study in much the same way. No one is born
knowing how to study. You need to learn a few
study skills and then practice them. Why work on
your study skills? It will make it easier for you to
learn and do well in class, especially as you move
up to middle school and high school.
Here are six steps to smarter
studying:
Study Tip for kids
How did you learn how to ride your bike
Pay Attention: Good Studying Starts in
Class Here's a riddle for you:
Did you know that before you even begin
studying, you've already started? Huh? Here's
what we mean. When you pay attention in class
and take good notes, you are starting the
process of learning and studying.
Good Notes: Easier StudyingNot sure
how to take notes? Start by writing
down facts that your teacher mentions or
writes on the board during class. Try your best
to use good handwriting so you can read your
notes later. It's also a good idea to keep your
notes, quizzes, and papers organized by
subject.
Plan Ahead and You'll Be Glad You Did:
Waiting until Thursday night to study
for Friday's test will make for a homework
night that's no fun! It also makes it hard to do
your best. We're all guilty of putting things off
sometimes. One of the best ways to make sure
that doesn't happen is to plan ahead.
Break It Up!
When there's a lot to study, it can help
to break things into chunks. Let's say
you have a test on 20 spelling words.
Instead of thinking about all of the words at
once, try breaking them down into five-word
chunks and working on one or two different
chunks each night.
Don't worry if you can't remember something
on the first try. That's where practice comes in.
The more days you spend reviewing something,
the more likely it is to stick in your brain.
Lose the Confusion — Ask for Help
You can't study effectively if you
don't understand the material. Be
sure to ask your teacher for help if
you're confused about something. You can
check yourself by reading through your notes.
Does it all make sense? If not, ask your teacher
to go over it with you.
Sleep Tight!
So the test is tomorrow and you've
followed your study plan — but
suddenly you can't remember anything,
not even 2+2! Don't panic. Your brain needs time
to digest all the information you've given it. Try
to get a good night's sleep and you'll be surprised
by what comes back to you in the morning.
