PRIMITIVE
EDUCATION
The primitive people have a very simple
life.
Their livelihood was hunting and
gathering wild fruits and vegetables.
They live in crude huts and caves,
they have few or no contacts at all
with other people.
They have informal system of
communication. They only
communicate by demonstration (show
and tell) method.
As you can see in

ancient people
were hunting wild
animals like the
extinct mammoth.
The mammoth was
trying to scream for
help because it was
already surrounded

SURVIVAL
CONFORMITY
These two words best describes the aim of
Primitive Education. The primate people
were only concerned about how they can
survive from different wild animals that may
harm them and their family.
Conformity means “Social Approval” which
means that whatever others do, they also
do it because they wanted to be a part of
the group. These people were also prone to
superstitions and have different beliefs
about every things around them.

SPARTAN EDUCATION
The Spartan Education was based on the law of

constitution and a system of laws which became
the basis of sparta.
When it comes to discipline, spartans

MEDIEVAL
EDUCATION
MEDIEVAL EDUCATION was often
conducted under the auspices of the
Church. During the 800s, French
ruler Charlemagne realized his
empire needed educated people if it
was to survive, and he turned to the
Catholic Church as the source of
such education. His decree
commanded that every cathedral and
monastery was to establish a school
to provide a free education to every
boy who had the intelligence and the
perseverance to follow a demanding
course of study.
Grammar, Rhetoric, Logic,
Latin, Astronomy, Philosophy
and Mathematics were the
core of most curriculums
during this period.
Churches and Chapels
were the agencies for
education. They were
focused on the Moral
aspect of every people.
EARLY CHRISTIANS
The organization of the CHRISTIAN
CHURCH was started by the
apostles of Christ. Special mention
has to be made of the work of St.
Paul and St. Peter. Both journeyed
to Rome but St. Paul did more
spade work than Peter. Paul set up
many of the church doctrines in his
epistles and organized more
churches than any other apostle. The aims during this period of
education was the Moral aspect
as well as Salvation.
Moral Training, Spiritual
Training and Music Education

CHRISTIANITY
This was the outstanding contribution to
education by the Early Christians.
Monasticism
The term MONASTICISM came
from the Greek word “Monos”
meaning alone.
The practice started with the
christians who were persecuted.
They fled to the deserts or
elsewhere to escape persecution
and so they live alone. There
were also those who wanted to
live apart from paganism and
from the luxury of the catholic

Chastity
Poverty
Obedience
• Spiritual Knowledge
The Monastic people studied the seven liberal
arts which was divided into two: The Trivium
and the Quadrivium. The Trivium were
composed of Grammar, Dialectic and
Rhetoric, while the Quadrivium were
composed of Geometry, Arithmetic, Music and
Astronomy.
Monastic Schools were the only agency
for education during the middle ages aside
from the parish and cathedral schools.
The Methods of Instructions consist of
Catechetical Method, Dictation,
Memorization, Language, Discipline and
Meditation and Contemplation.
Scholasticism
When people began to question the validity of the creeds and
dogmas taught by the Christian Church, Scholasticism
came upon belief. This was the revised beliefs and logical
method of discussion.
Reasoned Faith and Intellectual Discipline were the
Aims of this period in Education.
People studied Theology and Religious
Philosophy.
The agencies of education were Parish schools,
Monastic and Cathedral Schools, Palace Schools
and University
(Universitas Magistrorum Et Scholarium)
CHIVALRIC
EDUCATION
Chivalric Education was the system of ethical ideals that
arose from feudalism and had its highest development in
the 12th and 13th century.
Aims of CHIVALRIC
EDUCATION
1.Morality
2.Responsibility
3.Horsemanship
4.Gallantry
5.Religiosity
6.Social Graces
Now that you have seen the developmental process of Education
worldwide, you may want also to know the historical development
of education of the Philippines.
From the Pre-Spanish Era, wherein the
Filipinos have a simple lifestyle and may be
much alike with the primitive people. The aims
were also for survival and enculturation.
The Jesuits, Franciscans and
Dominicans were the leaders and
called the “Friars” during the Spanish
Colonization in the Philippines.
Spanish people taught Filipinos the
Catholic Religion.
Then came the Americans, who defeated
the Spaniards and colonized our country
but let us form a good and leading citizens.
Their aim is to promote democratic ideals
and way of life to the Filipinos.
The bombing of Pearl Harbor led the United
States of America to surrender the
Philippines to the Japanese colonizers.
They taught Filipinos their language and
also their culture. The Philippines went for
4-5 years of colonization under the
Japanese people.
Years went through the Philippines had been
independent and were lead by different
presidents. The Philippine Education had
been changed after the Japanese and the
curricula were all about developing the
child’s nationalism and leadership.
Until now, the Philippine Educational System is still
coping up with what’s new in Education. Recently, the
“K+12 Program” was already implemented on different
schools and students have already a skill related
proficiency for them to be in demand in different
countries for work.
Now that you have learned where education
had started, you might wonder why is it
important to be educated. . .
But the only answer is inside you, instead of
wondering, think of the reasons why are you
going to school everyday. Think of the life
you would have years from now if you were
not educated. . .
Will it be
meaningful?
So it is already inside you to think, to learn
and to understand that education was given
to you freely by your parents. Appreciate and
value it as much as they can give it to you.
You won’t ever know what lies ahead of you
