Introduction • The brother of television star Ray Romano, Richard Romano used his experience in undercover narcotics investigations with the New York City Police Department to write and star in the film The Investigator. Richard Romano is also a member of the Fraternal Order of Police. The Fraternal Order of Police is a national organization with several initiatives focusing on assisting various government agencies, communities, and businesses. Among the issues addressed are the safety of children, veterans in need of help, and the problem of underage drinking. A program to prevent underage drinking, known as Respect 21, was created by the Responsible Retailing Forum in association with MillerCoors. The program shows retailers how they can establish and manage safe practices to ensure they are not selling alcohol to minors. To help prevent illegal sales within a given community, mystery shoppers who are of legal age visit retailers and test their effectiveness in limiting the accessibility of alcohol to young people. Respect 21 started in 2005 and has reached over 900 businesses to date.
