This document analyzes similarities between Victor Frankenstein and the monster he created in Mary Shelley's Gothic novel Frankenstein. Both are shunned by society due to their appearances and are lonely and isolated. They are both intelligent and want to help others. The monster desires companionship like Victor desires love from Elizabeth, though the monster kills her. In the end, Victor acts monstrous by abandoning his creation to an unaccepting society, while the monster's only desire was for love despite his hideous appearance.
