I required to find and collect variety of current and creative images/pictures from any books or others references/sources for components/elements in park and open space. The images showed the new ideas which is creative or contemporary. The categories are water feature, playground, hardscape, open spaces, and lighting.
At the end of assignment, I abled to observe more creative design and planning design standard to be implimented in my design.
A Recent presentation of strategies for sustainable infill housing in the Okanagan. The East Hill Infill follows a prescriptive (LEED for Homes) approach, while the Mission Infill utilized a 'common sense' strategy of passive solar assisted heating and natural ventilation. The former project achieved a LEED Platinum designation while the latter achieve an ENERGUIDE 81 rating.

2. Discovery Center 1Discovery Center Museum is located in Fort Collins,Colorado just off of
Cherry and College. This design details a hybrid design that intersects
refurbished railroad ties that create program areas such as outdoor
exhibit areas, water features, earthworks, and planting areas. The plan
depicts the raised earthwork entrance that welcomes bikers into the site
for exploration, as well as an orchid creating curiosity to passing
pedestrians. The stepped amphitheater creates a space for education
events, concerts, or whatever the mind can thing of. Here the stepped
amphitheater is shaded by the trees planted on the steps. The steps also
create private areas where friends and family can create their own space
and gather for the concert or even picnic when the area has no program
even planned. Final model productions including site context, as well as
the hybrid design effect of the refurbished railroad ties. Here you can
see the program areas that it creates as they interact with the stream
flowing to the nearby Poudre River.

The Equinox Brewery design details a shower curtain effect that allows users to create
their own space to park their bike or create open areas for seating that can be taken off
of the adjacent walls. The alternating roofs structures are alternated with solar panels
that can be rotated to maximize sun potential through the ever changing Colorado
seasons. Master plan of the bike parking area shows the solar panel and roof
structure that mimics the Colorado rockies. The north section that shows the entire
length of the bike parking gives more detail to the concept. This section also provides
a great look at how the “shower curtain” effect works. Bikers just have to pick where
they want to park their bike pull a pole over and lock it to their bike. The concept model
depicts “Intersecting Shadows” this model gave birth to the idea of the shade structures
and their interaction with the movable poles. Equinox Brewery got its name from the
inspiration of the term “Equinox” meaning equal day and night. Keeping this in mind with
the design and looking at the master plan the intent was to mimic this principle. The
design is mirrored on purpose to play on the term Equinox. Going into depth each side
of the bike parking lot can accommodate 80 bikes or 40 on each side. The space can
also be used for bigger events when the beer garden is full in the summer time. Owners
just have to slide the metal poles to the side and take down chairs that hang on the
outside walls to create a space for promotions, events, or whatever the day has in store.

This figure ground study shows the existing conditions of Denver’s 10th
and osage stop and the surrounding areas. Towards the east side of the
site residential buildings, schools, and the art district dominates the
area. Towards the west side of the site more industrial buildings can be
seen some that are still in use, this area also serves as a train depot.
Finally once you cross I-25 more residential areas can be seen. Looking
at analysis of the site it was evident that there was a connection
problem getting from the west side of I-25 to the east side.
Drawings depict what a “day in the life” of a resident of an area would
look like. In this scenario the resident uses the light-rail to get to the
broncos game where he enjoys the game later to take the light-rail back
to his home. The 5 Lynch diagrams take a look at the existing
conditions of the area including edges, landmarks, nodes, pathways,
and districts. The master plan shows the proposed additions to 10th and
osage stop and the surrounding area. Residential communities
dominated the east side of the site and was left un touched. The west
side of the site was run down industrial buildings that was replaced with
a arching green way and two more parks. The surrounding areas of this
site were used as multi and mixed housings with downtown like areas.
Areas that included the light-rail were designed for the pedestrian
and buildings with unique shade/roof structures and tree lined
streetscapes dominated the area. This area also includes multiple
rooftop gardens which can be seen in the birds-eye perspectives.

The overall master plan can be seen in an alternating
nature. Walking through the space the user will be
effected by heavy tree planting on one side and
a lack of tree planting on the other. This notion is
created so roof top gardens can be built and enjoyed.
When occupying these spaces one will be able to
look down and enjoy people watching
while enjoying a meal orcoffee. When looking
down on the street pedestrians will notice transit
arriving and leaving the site as well as numerous
bike and pedestrian paths. At night the whole site will
be lit up with a series of string lights that hang over
the site. When the Honey Locus are full grown they
will also interact with the shade structures from the
roof top garden as they will grow in-between them,
creating an unique architectural feature.
G r e e n R o o f & W a l l 4The BSB roof top garden took a lot of research before the design
process even started. Building on a rooftop the design had to take in
consideration of weight and water usage. This design incorporated
intensive and extensive rooftop gardens and the various layers of
material that is needed to incorporate the weight and design. The master
plan shows the simple design that allows the user to enjoy the space
with myriad seating opportunities to study eat lunch or whatever they
please. The seating along the glass railing allows for a great view of the
pedestrian corridor below at CSU. A birds-eye perspective of the
relationship of the garden with the rest of the Behavioral Science
Building on campus is showned as well as a section showing the
materials used in the design as well a the intensive and extensive green
roof systems.
The Cache Bank living wall design incorporates alternating green
facades with living walls in order to mazimize the alloted 320 sq ft of
living walls aloud. Various plants were arranged in a linear pattern that
have different hues of green. The over all process would be completed
with g sky technology to the specifications listed on their website. In
order to educate the public about the importance of living walls signage
would be hung around the site providing such detail. Another idea that
could inform the general public would be assembling the system to allow
them to see how the plants will grow and survive in these systems. A
section shows the green wall with various construction documents and
axis rendering showing the various layers that will need to take place in
order to install the sytem. East and northeast perspectives showing the
green wall and green facades dipict the four plants that were selected
for use based of the site conditions and color, all plants needed to be
semi xeric and able to grow on a vertical wall.

These maps were made using Sketch Up and Illustrator. I was asked
to help with the 2014 X-Games Austin fan map that was handed out to
guests and intended to help them find everything that was located in the
festival. From bathrooms to festival locations all were mapped out on
the graphic. Looking at the process several conference calls took place
to perfect the location and graphics on the map. The three drawings on
the next page are all process renderings that led to the final graphic that
was printed off and handed out at X-Games 2014. The final product was
a team effort with graphic and ideas from multiple designers including
myself. Usefull skills and knowledge were gained from this project such
as, working with teams, getting my ideas out on the table, as well as
learning to deal with deadlines, communication and project management.
