This document discusses the development of the Forest Resource Management Information System (FORMIS) in Vietnam. FORMIS aims to (1) facilitate sustainable forest management planning, (2) help plan investments in the forest industry, and (3) integrate other forest monitoring and information systems by providing a central platform for data sharing. The FORMIS system architecture includes a forest resource database, data services platform, various information systems (e.g. for resource monitoring, industry monitoring), and web portal. It utilizes virtual servers, storage networks and databases located at the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development. The system is intended to improve productivity, reduce costs and support Vietnam's forest sector goals.
