This chapter provides information on the forensic examination of soil to assist forensic scientists with various levels of experience in soils analysis. It aims to give both a foundation for those new to analyzing evidentiary soils, as well as supplementing the knowledge of those with experience. Soil evidence can be very valuable in legal cases due to the large variations in soil composition over small areas. The analysis of soil requires a multi-disciplinary approach and customized examination of each sample's relevance to the specific case being investigated.
