Social Movement
The two social movements that I will address in the final project are the Abolition movement and the Lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) social movement. These two social movements happened during different eras but both work towards a common goal, which is ensuring that a marginalized group in the society has equal rights. In my research, I will address the historical background of each social movement and the ideologies that jumpstarted each movement. I will go further to analyze the leadership structure of each movement and the challenges that they face or faced. Most importantly, the research will examine the success and failures and the impact of each of the campaign.
My initial findings have established the sources of each of these social movements and the major success that they have each managed to achieve. The Abolition movement was jumpstarted with the effort of ending slavery in America. The basis of this movement was that all men were created equal and hence, the effort to emancipate slaves (Martos, Wilson & Meyer, (2017). This movement began in the 1830s and ended around 1870 (Martos, Wilson & Meyer, (2017). This movement was an essential step in ensuring that African Americans were free to form slavery and played a crucial role in ending racial segregation and discrimination.
On the other hand, the Lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) social movement was initiated with the interest of providing the LGBT with same movements as heterosexual individuals in the society (Lysack, 2012). This movement was started to end homophobic, transphobic and biphobic attitudes that prevented individual in this category to live comfortably in the society (Lysack, 2012). Notable successes of this movement are that it has managed to achieve legality of gay marriages (Lysack, 2012). Regardless, this movement continues to have challenges, especially on the international front, where certain cultures fail to recognize these laws. Each of these social movements has had an essential role in addressing human rights violations which is an aspect I would explore more in the final research process.

The Evolution of Social Behavior and Opportunities That Arise
Social evolution in human society offers a unique premise to study and determine the effects and outcomes of social changes to organizations, societies, individuals, and businesses. This is because as long as man exists, social changes will always form a part of life, and since these changes take place within society, their effects reverberate through all society. Triggers of social change include current technology, environment, economy, and demographic features, and understanding these trigger points in history, can point out major social evolutions (Rousseau, 2006). Nonetheless, a major outcome of social change is the resultant gap in society marked by new needs and wants, non existent before the social change, and the subsequent opportunities for entrepreneurs.

Progressivism
Progressivism is the general term given to the variety of social reform movements that existed in the United States at the turn of the century. Many historians do not consider the term Progressivism to be particularly useful since reform in this period was so varied in nature, but others suggest some uniformity can be found. If we were to make this generalization, we would say that folks in the progressive movement, or "Progressives", believed in that very concept; that society was able to progress. Although this idea was influenced by Darwinian thought, Progressives also tended to oppose Social Darwinism notions, believing that society should look out for its weaker and more vulnerable members. In general, they focused their reform efforts on building an environment conducive to social welfare and behavior, as well as attempting to limit the excesses of industrial capitalism.
To get a better sense of the mood of this period you might want to take a Quick Time virtual tour of a tenement. Progressivism has a vast legacy. It helped bring us the 16th, 17th, 18th and 19th Amendments. Significant political and educational reforms were implemented and some of the first business regulations were created. Our national park system was also a product of this era. While many would applaud the spirit of many reforms in this period, there is also a legacy of Progressivism that may not be viewed as warmly. Like the Dawes Act covered in our discussion of American Indians in the West, reform could also entail cultural biases enforced upon "problem elements" in US society. Typically, this would be in the form of laws targeting lower-income people,non-whites and immigrants. As you read about Progressivism consider how it falls into either a form of social justice or social control.

Introduction
The study of social movement reflects the social issues in different periods have faced. This work will focus on the Abolition Movement and the Lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) social movements. Social movements are a result of general public consensus towards dealing with major social issues in the community.
I will discuss the historical background and ideals that supported the development of the Abolition Movement and the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) Social Movement. This is intended to show the correlation between their emergence and the key social issues that the community faced.
The Abolition movement
The Abolition movement was jumpstarted with the effort of ending slavery in America. It held that all people are created equal, and hence the practice of slavery was unacceptable. This movement existed in the 19th century when many people started publicly displaying dissatisfaction for the slavery practices in the country. It placed more pressure on the authorities to outlaw slavery (Martos, Wilson & Meyer, 2017). It would allow for increased debate about segregation and discrimination.
Slaved men and women worked on large agricultural farms as maids. Their life was brutal; they were subject to severe punishments and strict racial rules and policies. With time they opposed slavery through daily acts like antislavery movements. The basis of this movement was that all men were created equal and hence, the effort to emancipate slaves (Martos, Wilson & Meyer, (2017).
Abolitionists managed to integrate religion and moral movement, that focused on the acceptance that everyone was equal before the eyes of their creator and later on became political. Antislavery societies were formed by various churches to create awareness of evil effects of slavery (Lysack, 2012). American Colonization Society (founded 1817) was first movement to abolishing slavery but was greatly opposed since it was seen as unfair to send Black Americans from their motherland to Africa.
The American Antislavery Society was founded in 1833 by prominent leaders, such as William Lloyd Garrison David Walker and Frederick Douglass (Black Abolitionist) strongly opposed slavery in their publications (Pepin-Neff & Wynter, 2019). These publications disputed against slavery as anti-social and immoral and repeatedly used illustrations of African -American literatures and other accomplishments to outline that the Africans and their offspring had ability to learn like Americans, if granted freedom.
The abolition movement was politicized. The Native American Party opposed slavery as well immigrants. Thus, other parties like Free Soil and Whigs did so. They merge together in 1856 leading to election of Abraham Lincoln as president in United States (Lysack, 2012).

Bringing social justice behind the scenes: transforming the work of technical...
Inspired by the excellent work of the MIT Libraries, I recently advocated for, and was successful in creating, a Diversity, Inclusion, and Social Justice Working Group at the Vassar College Libraries. I co-chair this group along with my colleague, Rachel Finn, and our membership represents a cross-section of library departments, and includes a mix of managers, administrators, and unionized staff.
Though our work is currently in the beginning stages, I am interested in developing a presentation for NASIG that looks specifically at ways in which values of social justice can be integrated into the day-to-day work of technical services. Frequently, social justice initiatives are thought of as activities belonging to outreach staff, or more public-facing staff; such initiatives exist alongside the daily work of librarianship rather than being fully integrated within it. I think there are opportunities for this work to happen within the technical services sphere, but it requires taking a hard look at existing workflows and staff capacity. Much of technical services work is built around the idea of "efficiencies," but what are we sacrificing in the name of efficiency? In the name of conveniences? In the zine librarian community (in which I am active) we have standards surrounding the idea of ethical acquisitions--what would that look like if it were to be developed for technical services more broadly? In the area of collections, how could we enhance diversity and inclusion by backing out of the big deal and/or approval plans? What would the impact on technical services departments be and how would be absorb that work? In the area of vendor performance, are we ready to sever ties with corporations that aren't centering social justice in their own work?
Again, this work at Vassar is only in the early stages; however, this is a moment when Vassar College as a whole is looking very seriously at transforming the academic and residential life of our community through the work of the Engaged Pluralism Initiative. My hope is that we will be able to build on this momentum and contribute to positive changes in campus climate.
I would like the opportunity to speak about our process, enumerate our short-term goals, and talk more about our aspirations for bringing real change to existing department workflows.

Introduction
The study of social movement reflects the social issues in different periods have faced. This work will focus on the Abolition Movement and the Lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) social movements. Social movements are a result of general public consensus towards dealing with major social issues in the community.
I will discuss the historical background and ideals that supported the development of the Abolition Movement and the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) Social Movement. This is intended to show the correlation between their emergence and the key social issues that the community faced.
The Abolition movement
The Abolition movement was jumpstarted with the effort of ending slavery in America. It held that all people are created equal, and hence the practice of slavery was unacceptable. This movement existed in the 19th century when many people started publicly displaying dissatisfaction for the slavery practices in the country. It placed more pressure on the authorities to outlaw slavery (Martos, Wilson & Meyer, 2017). It would allow for increased debate about segregation and discrimination.
Slaved men and women worked on large agricultural farms as maids. Their life was brutal; they were subject to severe punishments and strict racial rules and policies. With time they opposed slavery through daily acts like antislavery movements. The basis of this movement was that all men were created equal and hence, the effort to emancipate slaves (Martos, Wilson & Meyer, (2017).
Abolitionists managed to integrate religion and moral movement, that focused on the acceptance that everyone was equal before the eyes of their creator and later on became political. Antislavery societies were formed by various churches to create awareness of evil effects of slavery (Lysack, 2012). American Colonization Society (founded 1817) was first movement to abolishing slavery but was greatly opposed since it was seen as unfair to send Black Americans from their motherland to Africa.
The American Antislavery Society was founded in 1833 by prominent leaders, such as William Lloyd Garrison David Walker and Frederick Douglass (Black Abolitionist) strongly opposed slavery in their publications (Pepin-Neff & Wynter, 2019). These publications disputed against slavery as anti-social and immoral and repeatedly used illustrations of African -American literatures and other accomplishments to outline that the Africans and their offspring had ability to learn like Americans, if granted freedom.
The abolition movement was politicized. The Native American Party opposed slavery as well immigrants. Thus, other parties like Free Soil and Whigs did so. They merge together in 1856 leading to election of Abraham Lincoln as president in United States (Lysack, 2012).

Inspired by the excellent work of the MIT Libraries, I recently advocated for, and was successful in creating, a Diversity, Inclusion, and Social Justice Working Group at the Vassar College Libraries. I co-chair this group along with my colleague, Rachel Finn, and our membership represents a cross-section of library departments, and includes a mix of managers, administrators, and unionized staff.
Though our work is currently in the beginning stages, I am interested in developing a presentation for NASIG that looks specifically at ways in which values of social justice can be integrated into the day-to-day work of technical services. Frequently, social justice initiatives are thought of as activities belonging to outreach staff, or more public-facing staff; such initiatives exist alongside the daily work of librarianship rather than being fully integrated within it. I think there are opportunities for this work to happen within the technical services sphere, but it requires taking a hard look at existing workflows and staff capacity. Much of technical services work is built around the idea of "efficiencies," but what are we sacrificing in the name of efficiency? In the name of conveniences? In the zine librarian community (in which I am active) we have standards surrounding the idea of ethical acquisitions--what would that look like if it were to be developed for technical services more broadly? In the area of collections, how could we enhance diversity and inclusion by backing out of the big deal and/or approval plans? What would the impact on technical services departments be and how would be absorb that work? In the area of vendor performance, are we ready to sever ties with corporations that aren't centering social justice in their own work?
Again, this work at Vassar is only in the early stages; however, this is a moment when Vassar College as a whole is looking very seriously at transforming the academic and residential life of our community through the work of the Engaged Pluralism Initiative. My hope is that we will be able to build on this momentum and contribute to positive changes in campus climate.
I would like the opportunity to speak about our process, enumerate our short-term goals, and talk more about our aspirations for bringing real change to existing department workflows.

After careful deliberation, you decide to apply for the grant to finance your time and help you obtain the resources needed to develop the proposed instructional experiences. A primary component of your plan requires consideration of the culture and specific needs of each child enrolled in your class (or one of your classes) for the upcoming semester.
Writing the Final Project
Create your Final Project to meet the content and written communication expectations below. The content expectations include the ten parts of the request for proposal. If you have questions about the expectations for this assignment, use the Ask Your Instructor discussion section in the left-navigation pane of your course.
Content Expectations:
Part I: Audience and Rationale (1 point): Write an overview of the class and target population, including the age range, grade and/or subject area, and other relevant attributes of the culture in which school is situated.
Part II: Outcomes (1 point): List the instructional outcomes (i.e., learning objectives) of the instructional experience including (a) Content Outcomes, (b) 21st century skills with an emphasis on creativity and innovation and the International Society for Technology in Education technology skills, and (c) cultural competencies explicitly facilitated within the planned learning experience.
Part III: Assessment (1 point): Describe how you will measure the degree to which the learners have acquired your targeted outcomes. You do not need to develop the assessments, just describe what they would be in some detail.
Part IV. Context Description (2 points): Describe the nature of the overall instructional context established by addressing (a) creativity (i.e., learners involved in making or creating something), (b) problem solving (i.e., overall activity focuses on solving a specific or ill-defined problem), or (c) a real/simulated experience (i.e., activity consists of performing tasks that are part of a real-world exp.

and behaviors of others in the world around you.

400 LibGuide for guidance on how to select a topic. Select one issue/event in diversity and write a paper that addresses how this issue/event fits into the
framework of diversity, and then addresses how each lens influences perceptions and attitudes toward the issue/event, diversity, and society. The paper should
outline each lens’s impact and framing of the issue/event. Be sure to provide a working thesis statement and clear definitions for your key terms.
Specifically, you must address the critical elements listed below.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students.
