Footnotes in Microsoft Word allow you to cite references from a document and appear at the bottom of the page. To add a footnote, place your cursor where you want to cite a reference, click "Insert footnote". This will add a numbered note at the bottom of the page. You can customize footnote formats by choosing a number style or characters from the reference tab. Existing footnotes can also be reused by selecting the footnote in the cross-reference section.
