This document discusses using blockchain for food traceability. It notes that consumers demand more transparency in the food supply chain but find food producers untrustworthy. Blockchain could address this by providing trust, transparency and tamper-resistance. A consortium blockchain from companies in the supply chain may be better than a public blockchain due to privacy needs. Several blockchain platforms are outlined as options. Challenges for adoption include integrating distributed systems and ensuring authentication of participants and compliance with privacy laws like GDPR. Several pilot projects are underway to explore blockchain for traceability.
