Need o f Food
Every day, we do many types of work. We
walk, play, run, read and so on. We need
energy to do all these and for that we need
Sources o f Food
We get vegetables and fruits from plants.
we get milk, eggs and meat from animals.
Cooked Food
some food items should be eaten only after
cooking them. Food becomes soft and tasty
when we cook.
Cooked food is easily digestable.
Cooked Food
A few items of food are not digested without
cooking. So food items should be cooked and
eaten.
Important Note:
Nutrients are lost, if the food items are
over cooked.
Uncooked Food (Raw Food)
Some times we take raw fruits, vegetables,
nuts and seeds. These are uncooked and
have more nutrients. These are good for
health.

Various type s o f cooking methods
Brinjal Curry can be prepared by using brinjal,
tomatoes, coriander leaves and chilli. All food
items are not cooked in the same way. The
cooking methods are different for different food
items.
Cooking by boiling
The food items like rice and dal are
boiled.
Cooking by frying
Snacks like bajji and samosa are fried
in oil.
Cooking by heating on burning c o a l
Corn and Chapati are heated on
burning coal.
Cooking by steam
Idlies are cooked on
steam.
Food preparing without heating
Mango pickle, and raita are prepared raw
without heating.
Foods, which can be e a t e n r a w
Carrots, beetroot, raddish, cucumber, onion,
coriander leaves, Mint (pudina) etc. can be
eaten raw.
Food gives us energy and helps us stay
healthy. Hence, we should take proper care
and measures to keep food safe.
If the food items are not covered properly,
dust, germs, flies and other harmful
insects sit on the food and contaminate
it.
Hence, every one should follow good food
habits.
Harmful germs and micro organisms stick to
the body of the flies as they live in dirty
places. They contaminate the food we eat and
cause harm to our health.
We should eat clean food. Even though the
food is clean, we may fall sick if we eat
with dirty hands.
Hence, good food habits are a must for
every one.
Avoid outside food
Some hotels and road
side food vendors use
the same oil again and
again.
Oil that is heated many
times is not good for
health.
So, we should not eat
such food.

Pickles, chutneys,
jams, vadiyalu, etc.,
are preserved for
many days.
Using extra salt and
drying them before
storing helps in
preserving them.
Vegetables, meat,
fish are mixed
with salt and then
dried in hot sun.
These are used as
food whenever we
want to eat. They
are called as
"orugulu".
However pickles
are not good for
health.

Proteins and Fats.
The non-energy
components include
vitamins and minerals.

Barley and Macaroni.
Millets and Cereals give
us necessary energy to
our body.
The components which
give energy are called
carbohydrates
or starch.

Potato, sugar,
jaggery sweet
potato, some
varieties of fruits
Such as apples,
grapes, bananas
also contain
nutrients that give
us energy .
We should eat clean food. Even though the
food is clean, we may fall sick if we eat
with dirty hands.
Hence, good food habits are a must for
every one.
Eat fresh and cheap fruits, vegetables and
leafy vegetables as available seasonally.

going to bed. Rinse your mouth before and
after every meal.

Every one should follow good food
habits. If you are not following them
everyday, then follow them compulsorily
from today, without fail.
