 Food can be defined as any nutritious substance
that people or animals eat or drink or that plants
absorb in order to maintain life and growth.
 But per now we are specifically looking at people
and the food they consume.
 We shall be exploring the nutrients contained in
different food stuffs that people consume daily.
 ENERGY GIVING FOOD
 BODY BUILDING FOOD
 VITAMIN
 FATS
 MINERALS
 Food rich in carbohydrate are energy giving.
 One of the primary functions of carbohydrates
is to provide your body with energy.
 Most of the carbohydrates in the foods you eat
are digested and broken down into glucose
before entering the bloodstream.
 Proteins are often called the body’s building
blocks.
 They are used to build and repair tissues.
 They help you fight infection. Your body uses
extra protein for energy.
 Protein from plant sources tends to be lower in
fat and cholesterol and provides fiber and other
health-promoting nutrients.
 Vitamin C’s antioxidant properties lower the formation of
free radicals and minimize its effect on the body.
 Men and women who take a large amount of Vitamin C
have strong, healthy and thick hair.
 Low intake of Vitamin C can be the cause for a number of
hair related problems that severely affect hair growth.
 Vitamin also boosts the immunity of the body to fight
against diseases.
 Fats also give you energy and help you feel
satisfied after eating.
 Oils, shortening, butter, and margarine are types
of fats, and mayonnaise, salad dressings, table
cream, and sour cream are high in fat.
 Foods from animal sources and certain foods like
seeds, nuts, avocado, and coconut also contain
fat.
 Certain vital minerals are essential for our bodies
to function properly.
 These minerals can help in maintaining fluid
balance, building bones, muscle movement and
secreting hormones.
 Minerals include Calcium, Phosphorus , Iron ,
Zinc , Manganese, Cobalt Potassium, Copper ,
Sodium ,Iodine.

 Every food item has got the role it
plays in the proper function of the
human body.
 It is therefore advisable to eat a meal
