The BEAWARE project has set an objective to support potential coordinators and potential partners from Eastern European countries while identifying future R&D project opportunities in the field of Aeronautics and Air Transport within the frame of Horizon 2020. The largest network of aerospace clusters in Europe – the European Aerospace Cluster Partnership (EACP) will now push innovation through building cooperation ties between aerospace cluster managers in East and West.
The BEAWARE consortium lead by innovation bureau Invent Baltics, connects leading aerospace clusters (Aerospace Valley, Farnborough Aerospace Consortium, Hamburg Aviation, Helice, Moravian Aerospace Cluster and Pôle Pégase), regional associations and agencies (Association of Polish Aviation Industry, Agency for the Promotion of European Research) and aerospace strongholds (National Institute for Aerospace Research, Vilnius Gediminas Technical University and Zilinska University).
In order to facilitate the entry into supply chains for Eastern European aerospace actors, well-focused workshops in various technology areas together with factory tours to major aerospace hotspots will be organized. Current presentation was made at the Workshop, in Marseille, on June 16th, 2014.
Many accidents and even fatalities are caused by earth-moving machinery, crawler cranes, tractors, Special Foundation Equipment, and farm machinery,. Especially if users/drivers do not behave as intended, or if safety is not properly guaranteed.
At the same time electronic control systems are responsible of the core functionality in the vehicles, e.g., engine control, braking, and steering; and the functions performed by the vehicles, e.g., buckets, telescopic handlers, or drills. Authorities currently increase the pressure on vehicle manufacturers to comply with safety standards for their electronic systems. The market will increase expectations on products to be certified according to e.g. ISO 13849, 25119, 15998, 12100, IEC 61508, 62061 and Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC and it will be a competitive advantage to do so.

So that the past has a future - the German Foundation for Monument Protection...heritageorganisations.eu
Within just a few years the German Foundation for Monument Protection has grown into the largest private historical-preservation initiative in Germany. The German Foundation for Monument Protection has thus set itself two goals: to preserve endangered cultural monuments and promote all aspects of monument protection. We hope to animate as many citizens as possible to become involved in this task. Since its foundation in 1985 the German Foundation for Monument Protection has helped to preserve over 3,000 monuments nationwide, investing 390 million Euros.
Contributions have been raised from more than 180,000 private sponsors and companies, fine allocations and proceeds from the GlücksSpirale lottery. Our patron is the Federal President, Horst Köhler. The Foundation becomes active where state funds are either not available or are proving insufficient. In times when public budgets continue to shrink, this goal is more than ever a challenge for all. The Foundation’s funds benefit an array of historical monuments: burgher houses, village, town and cloister churches, industrial monuments, palaces, castles and manor houses, parks, town walls and archaeological excavations.
To encourage young people to become more involved with our cultural heritage is of particular concern to the Foundation. In 2002 for example we initiated the schools project “denkmal aktiv * Kulturerbe macht Schule” (Cultural Heritage in Young Hands). Over a thousand pupils belong to the nationwide network. During the school year they work on and study cultural monuments on site, taking part in restoring and documenting the monument, and so getting to know monument protection first hand. The “Jugendbauhütte” projects (Youth Masonry Guilds) running in nine towns are also proving to be a successful model. Over the course of a year of voluntary civic service young adults gain insight into old
crafts and historical buildings. Practical activities introduce the participants to the basic know-how and skill demanded by protecting historical monuments and offers a platform for their future vocational
orientation.
Another aspect of our mission is of no less importance: to raise public awareness for monument protection and the tasks this entails. In this vein the Foundation coordinates the nationwide European Heritage Day, held annually in September. This contribution to the European Heritage Days has meanwhile advanced to one the largest cultural events in Germany, highlighting 7,000 monument sites open to the public and attracting over four million.

Hazard
Any phenomenon that has the potential to cause disruption or damage to people and their environment.
For example, an earthquake can cause a tsunami.
Disaster
Natural disasters are slightly different. They are the effects of natural hazards on humanity.
For example, the tsunami in Indonesia caused a great amount of loss of property and more importantly lives.

The SME Innovation Instrument, Horizon2020 and Talent Europe. A discussion by...Alberto Minin
I provide a quick introduction to the Meridian Fellowship on Social Innovation and to my project, Talent Europe,
I will then present some of the latest numbers regarding the implementation of the SME Innovation instrument, one of the most innovative parts of the 8th presentation Framework program called Horizon 2020
I will briefly share with you three concepts that I think might be interesting to explore as a basis of a useful comparison between Europe and US science and technology Policy.
What I am seeking to do as a Meridian Fellow is to expand my expertise on science and technology policy and to contribute to the debate around this topic that is developing in Europe. I think that there are better ways to engage and to empower EU talent, and to make it become key player of EU Economic Recovery and competitiveness
The US had been a continuous source of inspiration for the EU debate on science and technology, and more in general on innovation policy.
Later on I will discuss about the SME innovation instrument that had been inspired in part by the SBIR program here in the US.
Not only policy makers and scholars have been guiding this exchange of ideas and experiences, but also US Embassies in Europe have been very important in sharing with Europe some news. I am very familiar with the case of the US Embassies in Italy. The past three Ambassadors have been evangelists of messages and priorities. Ronald Spogli emphasized the role of high tech entrepreneurs in society, David Thorne has focused on the role the digital economy can have a driver of growth, more recently the sitting ambassador, John Phillips is very vocal about the benefits that Italy could derive by a more efficient judiciary system
My experience as scholar, and teacher is telling me that the debate on innovation in Europe is desperately in need of some fresh air and new ideas.
I believe that there are four areas where we can look.
The first one has to do with new original ways to communicate the relevance of sicence and technology for society.
The second has to do with the way we mentor and assist scientists and engineers that seek to become entrepreneurs. What is the role of universities, government and private sector to achieve this task.
Third area is corporate entrepreneurship, industrial venturing and the attitude EU large corporations have towards change.
Finally demands side innovation policy: public procurement and the setting of challenges and ambitious goals, where sometimes the role of the government should not be to provide the means to achieve these goals, but to promise to act as first buyer for the best solutions for a specific challenge.
