NPGBC - Monthly Theme Commentary - August 2018newpineygrove
The document discusses the 2018 theme of New Piney Grove which is "Biblical Leadership". It will focus on the impact of biblical leadership in August. Biblical leaders encourage, correct, inspire, guide and empower others according to proverbs. They have a positive impact by helping people obey God and see Him more clearly as discussed in Romans. The overall impact hoped for is one that helps people know God more fully.
(1) Spiritual gifts are supernatural abilities bestowed by the Holy Spirit upon Christians to enable them to carry out functions that further Christ's body. These gifts include wisdom, knowledge, faith and healing.
(2) Spiritual gifts are not innate, but are transmitted to believers by the Holy Spirit to allow them to do what they could not otherwise do. They produce spiritual results.
(3) Attitude is determined by one's thinking. A positive attitude affects relationships and outlook, while a negative attitude can be rejected. Improving one's own attitude and dealing with others' negative attitudes is important.
This document discusses Jesus establishing a new kingdom through nonviolent sacrifice rather than military action. It notes that God's plans for salvation are often different than what humans imagine. The document also provides a definition of a "Dunker Punk" as a young person who radically commits their life to living God's love through nonviolence and sacrifice in the power of the Spirit.
We can see the concept of “thanksgiving” throughout the scriptures, and although it’s good to set aside a Thursday every November to be intentionally thankful, the Bible says much more about giving thanks than just one day a year can handle.
Beth Fox presents a scriptural and inspirational foundation for making goals to follow God in 2017. This is the first in a five-part series by this title. This message focuses on the value of making a goal to promote the Gospel in 2017.
How does God want you as a follower of Jesus to continue doing what Jesus did: to seek and save the lost? A written, specific, measurable, attainable, relevant and time-limited goal will help you put your faith in action more effectively.
How you answer this question shapes your life in ways that go on into eternity. It's absolutely crucial to get this right. Listen to this message to find out who you REALLY are as a Christian! The speaker struggled with this for decades and has intimate knowledge of how to answer this correctly!
Jesus saw each person as valuable and unique, treating everyone with special care and not despising anyone. He brought down barriers by seeing others with God's sympathy. His mission was to bring salvation to all people, including those in Samaria. We can learn from Jesus' example and from Andrew to build affectionate relationships with others in order to introduce them to Jesus. We should see others as potential citizens of God's kingdom and treat them accordingly.

- God made a promise to King David that he would have a great descendant whose kingdom would be established forever, and that God would build the temple. This promise is reflected in Psalms 89:35-37.
- The prophet Isaiah foretold that a child would be born who would be given the titles Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, and Prince of Peace, and whose government and peace would have no end, sitting on David's throne forever.
- The birth of Jesus Christ, born of the virgin Mary, fulfilled the promise to David, as God was with us in the form of Jesus, who would save his people from their sins, as was spoken by the prophet.
This document discusses principles for living according to God's will and being focused on spiritual harvest. It emphasizes choosing God's presence daily through spending time with him in prayer and reading scripture. It also stresses the importance of building relationships through cell groups and sharing testimonies. The key is simply praying regularly and trusting God to determine our steps.

Sermon Slide Deck: "Dealing With Temptation" (Matthew 6:5-13)New City Church
The small choices we make in the face of temptation tell the big story of our lives.
This message was given on April 19, 2015 at New City Church in Calgary by Pastor John Ferguson. For more info please visit: www.newcitychurch.ca
This document outlines 12 principles for biblical success according to Pastor Tim Hodge:
1. Ability comes from inborn talents that are sharpened through experience and practice.
2. Attitude determines one's altitude - a positive attitude sets the atmosphere for greatness.
3. Action requires working towards goals with plans; success requires work just as God had a plan to redeem man through Jesus.
4. People are key to success in business or ministry so one must approach others confidently.
Elder William Bradford taught that we should seek recognition from God rather than people for our service. We should serve out of love for God, not a desire for praise. Jesus warned against hypocrisy in religious acts done only for show. True disciples prioritize God's kingdom by obeying his commandments and treating others with compassion.
NPGBC - Monthly Theme Commentary - March 2016 newpineygrove
This document discusses the theme of God's grace according to the Bible. It defines grace as God's unmerited favor and his ability to forgive human sin and rebellion. Grace is a central theological theme throughout the Bible. The document outlines different aspects of God's grace, including common grace which causes the sun to rise on all people, saving grace which saves through faith as a gift from God, enabling grace which carries believers forward until completion, and sufficient grace in which God's power is perfected through human weakness.
The document discusses Jesus coming into the world to save sinners. It encourages Christians to go out into the world like Jesus did, mixing with people freely and understanding their situations, thinking and feelings. Christians should not wait for people to come to church but should actively go out into the world as Jesus did to share the message of salvation.
The document discusses the concept of "the ideal" and describes it as something that satisfies one's conception of perfection but may only exist in the imagination. It then presents excerpts from poems or songs that reference striving for something despite losing or failing on one's own, but that with God or Jesus Christ on their side, they can achieve what they are striving for or win the battle. The document also presents biblical passages about Jesus Christ being the son of God and being well-pleased, and asks what kind of person pleases God, suggesting from another passage that someone who acts justly, loves mercy, and walks humbly with God pleases him.
Jun29, 08 Pm Trust In Powerof God 1cor 2.1 16Robert Bliss
The document discusses a lesson about trusting in God's power based on 1 Corinthians 2:1-16. It focuses on preaching the cross, God's hidden plan of salvation, and how the Spirit reveals God's plan and wisdom. While public opinion and what seems important to people matters, the lesson says the only opinion that truly matters is God. The conclusion exhorts trusting God's plan by hearing, believing, repenting, confessing faith, and being baptized.
Micah lived at the same time as Isaiah and best known for his prophecy that the Messiah would be born in Bethlehem. This prophecy is sandwiched in the middle of prophecies about the coming judgment. Micah's prophecies initiated a great revival of faith under King Hezekiah. Micah tells us what the Lord requires of all people to receive His mercy.
The document discusses overcoming troubles and fears through faith in God. It references John 14:27 where Jesus says "do not let your heart be troubled and do not be afraid." The document states that nothing is greater than the God who loves us, and that He is all we need to overcome all that troubles our heart and makes us afraid.
This document provides lessons on how to treat others from the example of Jesus. It discusses how Jesus saw everyone as having inherent worth and a potential to accept salvation. It encourages viewing others with God's sympathy, without regard to differences, and seeing their potential. Examples are given of Jesus healing the blind man when brought by friends and traveling through Samaria to minister to all people. The importance of building relationships to introduce people to Jesus is highlighted through the example of Andrew telling his brother and others. Jesus is shown dealing patiently with difficult people and seeing reflection of God in all. The lessons encourage recognizing opportunities God provides to share the Gospel.
The document discusses Jesus as the divine Teacher who comes to meet and teach different types of students. It describes how Jesus meets rebellious, disheartened, lost, despised, and advanced students. Jesus corrects the flaws caused by humanity's rebellion and teaches eternal life lessons. Examples are given of Jesus meeting individuals like Adam and Eve, Jacob, the woman from Phoenicia, and Bartimaeus to strengthen, encourage, and teach them despite their backgrounds or situations. The document emphasizes that Jesus can meet people wherever they are at and help them progress in their spiritual understanding through spending time with Him.

THE SABBATH SCHOOL - 4th QUARTER 2020 - LESSON 5Adam Hiola
Jesus is the perfect teacher who reveals God to humanity. He taught through his life example by showing humility, obedience, and service. He reconciled humanity to God by paying the price for sins so we could be forgiven. Jesus revealed both the glory and character of God the Father. All humanity is called to worship Jesus as the Savior, Messiah, and King of kings who is worthy of glory, honor, and praise.
This document discusses a passage from the Bible about a Roman centurion who showed great faith in Jesus. It summarizes that the centurion loved his servant, was humble despite his high status as a centurion, and had a deep faith and understanding of Jesus' authority. In contrast, the people of Nazareth, who knew Jesus personally, did not believe in him despite having many advantages over the centurion in their knowledge of God. The document concludes that modern Christians also have many advantages but have not used them to spread the gospel or gain knowledge of God.
The document is a sermon about how Jesus came to seek and save the lost. It discusses how man sinned and deviated from God's purpose, but God gave a second chance by sending Jesus Christ. It talks about the days of Isaiah, how people considered God's things as rituals without heart. It concludes by urging people to avail themselves for God's use, confess sins, acknowledge God, and never perform rituals without passion, as Jesus will soon return with rewards.
This document discusses prioritizing God over other things in life and making sacrifices to God rather than things not of God. It warns that having faith in things not of God can lead one to act like those things rather than God. It encourages forgetting wants, placing will in God's will, and asking God to destroy sins so as not to be placed back in bondage. The document promotes attending a Bible study on December 30th to receive more revelation knowledge.

The document discusses spiritual discipline and focusing on spiritual growth. It asks what the reader wants to do most spiritually, noting they should forget past mistakes and focus on spiritual goals ahead. It acknowledges that people can lose focus, then asks what might be stopping the reader from spiritual growth. It suggests finding and acting on spiritual excellence through meditation, as opposed to dwelling on past failures or distractions from spiritual progress.

This Father's Day, I decided to spend a little time on an outline tucked away in my Preaching Files. I am not sure where the thoughts of this outline came from because it was a basic outline, but take a moment to enjoy. (If you took part in the creation or if this outline is yours, please contact me.)
Zig Ziglar has said, "Motivation is necessary; it is like bathing, highly recommended and needed daily." This year is no place to quit in our families. We must continue to strive for excellence in our actions and in our beliefs.
This document outlines 7 habits of great teaching: 1) Make contact and establish common interests with students to peek their spiritual interest. 2) Do not move too quickly or condemn students unnecessarily, stick to the main issue and confront issues directly.
The document discusses 4 spiritual disciplines: understanding, moving self, thinking differently, and planning. It notes that understanding requires being willing, wanting it, and seeking it. Moving self means moving yourself out of the way according to Bible verses. Thinking differently involves thinking on things like Philippians 4:8 describes and being humble. Planning refers to the tower principle from Luke and involves counting the cost. The overall message is that spiritual growth involves these 4 disciplines of understanding, self-reflection, perspective, and intention.
This lesson is the first in a series about "Work" - both a physical perspective and a spiritual perspective. This lesson primarily deals with the Bible foundations to work and discusses the question, "How should we view work?"
This document discusses the importance of passion in teaching and learning. It advocates using passion to secure students' hearts by hearing them, empowering them, cultivating their audacity, making lessons relevant, and telling their stories. Various quotes are provided to support pursuing passion and one's potential. The document promotes sharing resources on passion-driven teaching and learning through social media hashtags and searching for the authors' names and website.
Heaven is described as a place of great joy, rest, peace, righteousness, glory and God. It is portrayed as our true home and where our hearts and treasures will ultimately lie. The document encourages running the race of life with endurance, laying aside what might slow us down, so that we may receive the prize of an imperishable wreath in heaven. Heaven is presented as a place we hope to see each other again after this life.
What I Learned about Evangelism from a SalesmanChris Gallagher
This document discusses four lessons about evangelism that the author learned from a salesman. The lessons are: (1) some people will not be receptive no matter what you do; (2) some people will not participate at all; (3) perseverance is important as your message can reach some people over time; and (4) if you share your message widely enough, some people will be receptive to it. The document emphasizes having the right mindset and continuing to spread your message despite rejections or lack of interest from some.
This lesson was presented at the conclusion of a series on Getting to Know God. A few of the Hebrew words for God were examined to gain insight into the characteristics of God and this lesson was designed to challenge the membership to practice them.
For 2013, my lessons are focus on the Four Pillars - God, Family, Work, Service. Each pillar is a foundation in our lives, but the greatest pillar is that of God.
This lessons seeks to help know the character of God and discover the blessings He provides.
The document discusses how God uses integrity checks and challenges to develop character in believers and bring them to maturity in Christ. It gives the example of Abraham being tested by God's command to sacrifice Isaac, and how Abraham passed this test by demonstrating that God came before even his beloved son. It also contrasts this with the Israelites failing similar tests in the wilderness by complaining against God and Moses. The goal of such character development is for believers to impact others in greater ways and be ready for anything through strengthened faith and endurance.
Holy Choices - an Introduction to Ignatian Decision-makingBill Faris
This document discusses discerning God's plan for one's life through making choices. It presents five assumptions: 1) God is real and present, 2) God has a plan for each person's uniqueness, 3) God actively guides people, 4) People are capable of being God-guided, and 5) People's decisions impact God's work through them. It encourages examining deepest desires and feelings for clues to God's work, and outlines tools like discernment of consolations and desolations, and the Examen prayer for guidance. The overall message is that through releasing attachments, paying attention to promptings, and choosing among "competing goods," one can discern and follow God's will.
Holy Choices - Introduction to Ignatian Decision-MakinigBill Faris
Bill Faris guides us into the fundamental concepts and practices of discerning God's plans and making decisions as informed by the teaching of Ignatius Loyola.
This document provides an overview of the Judeo-Christian view of man according to the Bible. It discusses that man is uniquely created in God's image, with the ability to think abstractly and make moral decisions. The document notes that man has a tripartite nature of body, soul, and spirit. Finally, it states that the purpose of man according to the Bible is to manifest and reflect God's glory through displaying his perfections like holiness.
1. The document discusses how delays in God's plans are opportunities for both God rejectors and God trusters. For rejectors, delays reveal God, while for trusters delays grow their trust and perseverance.
2. It provides examples from the story of Moses and the Exodus to illustrate how delays revealed God's power and trustworthiness through the plagues in Egypt. Delays also grew Moses' ability to carry out God's plans.
3. The building of APC church is discussed as an example where delays in obtaining permits have allowed thorough planning and fundraising to progress the expansion in a prudent manner.

Rediscovering your purpose brings satisfaction.
(Fulfillment, Pleasure,& Happiness) Purpose tries to answer the question “why am I here”
(In this Church, in this world).
This lesson was presented at the Gadsden Church of Christ as a result of the Supreme Court decision regarding same sex marriage.
The background was found using a subscription at www.sharefaith.com
The document provides guidance on how to become a person of prayer. It begins with Jesus' model prayer from the book of Matthew. It then defines prayer as communication with God where one requests things from God, praises God, and addresses God. It encourages meditating on God and prioritizing his word. It advises talking to God daily by sharing problems, thanks, and sins. It suggests connecting with God, daring to pray like Daniel, and praying thankfully, in difficult times, and encouraging others, as Paul did.
This lesson was presented at the Gadsden Church of Christ on March 15th to share the need to reach out to the world. Mathew 14:22-32 as the text. As Jesus reached out to a sinking Peter, we need to reach out to a troubled world.
The PowerPoint Template was designed by Sharefaith.com.
This document discusses rising to challenges and standing firm in faith. It references several Bible verses about persevering in doing good works. It notes that Elijah stepped up to the challenge from men against God. Finally, it encourages standing fast in principles, getting in God's word, and removing weights and sin.
This lesson is based on the Armor of God spoekn by Paul in Ephesians 6:10-17. The importance is understanding the armor is not loaned, but owned. It must be put on before the battle rages on.
God's definition of good is conformity to his will in order to live with him eternally. Several verses in Romans chapter 8 qualify this, explaining that through the Holy Spirit, believers can realize God's goodness and strengthen their relationship with him. Specifically, the Spirit helps believers, intercedes for them, and those in Christ have God on their side. To experience God's goodness, one should be in Christ, focus their mind on spiritual things, communicate with God in prayer, and live according to his purpose.
This lesson was presented on February 15, 2015 as part of a series on Love. This specifically discusses the situation of the man who fell among robbers and asks the question if we are too busy in our world.
7 Effective Habits of Highly Effective ChristiansChris Gallagher
The document outlines seven habits of highly effective Christians: 1) make social contacts, 2) establish common interests, 3) peek spiritual interest, 4) don't go too far too quickly, 5) do not condemn, 6) stay on the main issue, and 7) confront directly. Each habit is accompanied by a brief explanation and biblical references. The habits are presented as effective strategies for Christians to have spiritual conversations based on Jesus' example in John 4.
The Success of 2014 is in the Power of Your HeartChris Gallagher
Planning for a coming year is an important part to success, be an important part of spiritual success as well. The greater question of planning is, "Who will you take with you?"
This document discusses the importance and meaning of work. It provides biblical quotes about work being part of God's plan and how man was created to work. Additional quotes emphasize that work should be done wholeheartedly as for God, that labor deserves wages, and that those unwilling to work should not eat. The document suggests reflecting on what you will do when your work is done and questions about when you will retire or spiritually retire.
David gave his son Solomon final words of advice, challenging him to act responsibly, walk with God, and obey David's commands. A father shows love through discipline, and David disciplined Solomon out of love, just as the Scriptures instruct fathers to admonish their children using spiritual wisdom and knowledge to warn them against foolishness and temptation.
