The two-day "Value of Adaptation to Climate Change" short course in Frankfurt, Germany aims to develop the skills and capabilities of professionals starting careers in climate change adaptation through presentations from European experts and interactive exercises addressing challenges in sectors threatened by flooding or heat. Participants will learn about the importance of adaptation, build an international network, and gain an in-depth understanding of approaches to tackle the impacts of climate change at regional and local scales. The €400 fee is waived for selected applicants through need-based bursaries.

1. Short Course: “The Value of Adaptation to Climate Change”

Objectives:
Adaptation is a necessary strategy at all scales to complement climate change mitigation efforts.
This intensive 2 day workshop will take an approach to:
 Develop skills and capabilities to address the importance of adaptation action
 Take an international view of adaptation measures with participants and speakers from across Europe and from sectors threatened by flooding or heat
 Build a network of practitioners with the capabilities to become a frontrunner in adaptation issues
Outcomes:
Participants will develop an in-depth understanding of the subject of climate change adaptation and its relevance, and will develop understanding and skills to tackle the challenge
Participants:
The programme is for professionals at EU regional and local scale from the public sector, politics, or NGOs who recently started or plan to become active in the field of adaptation to climate change in the near future.
Methodology:
The programme will provide both theoretical and practical knowledge through input by experts from various fields combined with interactive activities focusing on individual challenges, completed with communication skills training.
Cost:
The course fee is €400. The fee covers accommodation, course material and 2 daily meals. Bursaries covering the full amount are available on a first come first served basis.
Deadline:
The deadline for applications is 31st October 2014. Applications will be made through the Climate KIC website. The maximum number of participants is 25.
