In the last couple of years I've been organising several video game-related events in Berlin, always in my spare time and with little or no budget, such as Join – 1st Local Multiplayer Summit, Talk & Play and the Berlin Twine Jam. In this talk I'd like to share some of the lessons I’ve learnt and give tips to people interested in organising a conference, meetup, game jam or other type of event, focusing on the importance of making them as culturally inclusive as possible.
I've collected some additional resources for people who'd like to organise events here: http://bit.ly/tips4events
This presentation was created for a talk I gave in October 2014 at GameCity 9 in Nottingham, UK.
Presentation at GDC 2009 in Cologne Germany, incorporating how Advanced TM\'s such as Catalyst are potentially far better fits for game localisation than traditional text based translation memory tools.
Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games 2014-Normandy
Val Phillips, Lifeforce Product Representative, Alltech
Val will provide a quick overview of the upcoming Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games – Normandy 2014; A global competition showcasing horses and riders at peak performance.
Talking about gamification has gotten me into a whole lot of “heated discussions” over the past couple of years. Sometimes it’s with the sort of ahead-of-the-curve professionals who talk at length about the intricate game-play of Call of Duty versus the simple pleasures of Angry Birds; sometimes it’s with more sceptical types who balk at buzzwords and think digital culture is an oxymoron; sometimes it’s with both at the same time.

What Back To The Future Got Right In The FutureNathan Young
October 21, 2015 has come and gone, and this presentation shows off all of the gadgets and gizmo's the movie makers from Back to the Future Part II predicted we would have in 2015. How many they got right, and how many they got wrong, enjoy!
TetraBIN (tetra bin.com) explores how today's technologies can be used to motivate positive change in urban environments. It uses gamified approaches – making use of game mechanics and game thinking – turn an activity traditionally considered trivial, such as depositing rubbish into a bin, into a joyful event.
These approaches are designed to enhance the experience of interacting with urban furniture, with the goal of encouraging more active attitudes from people formerly partaking passively in a relatively insignificant activity.
Steven Bai gave the presentation at Sydney Interactive Arts Meet-up event. His friend Sam Johnson also joined later during the last chapter of the presentation.

'Digital' was already great for business 10 years ago.Werner Puchert
Mozambique is a diverse country and their economy is still very much in a re-build phase. I had the opportunity to host a talk at the 2012 Mozambique Best Brands conference.
Our agency partners in Maputo highlighted the fact that clients where reluctant to invest in digital platforms, marketing and engagement due to the small footprint digital channels still have in the country.
I respect the African entrepreneurial spirit and wanted to avoid talking down to people who do business in a much harsher environment than this lucky South African. So, rather than preaching or selling digital services I thought I’d share the story of my humble beginnings in the digital industry. I wanted to express that it’s better to start early with low investment and grow your digital footprint and ultimately turn it into a active and profitable part of your business.
Background: I launched a web portal in 2000 which serviced a small niche community – www.sapaintball.co.za. I managed the profitable little portal for 10 years and many of the learning’s and experience I gained from this venture I still implement within my digital strategy, social media and user experience work today.

Observability Concepts EVERY Developer Should Know -- DeveloperWeek Europe.pdfPaige Cruz
Monitoring and observability aren’t traditionally found in software curriculums and many of us cobble this knowledge together from whatever vendor or ecosystem we were first introduced to and whatever is a part of your current company’s observability stack.
While the dev and ops silo continues to crumble….many organizations still relegate monitoring & observability as the purview of ops, infra and SRE teams. This is a mistake - achieving a highly observable system requires collaboration up and down the stack.
I, a former op, would like to extend an invitation to all application developers to join the observability party will share these foundational concepts to build on:
Why You Should Replace Windows 11 with Nitrux Linux 3.5.0 for enhanced perfor...SOFTTECHHUB
The choice of an operating system plays a pivotal role in shaping our computing experience. For decades, Microsoft's Windows has dominated the market, offering a familiar and widely adopted platform for personal and professional use. However, as technological advancements continue to push the boundaries of innovation, alternative operating systems have emerged, challenging the status quo and offering users a fresh perspective on computing.
One such alternative that has garnered significant attention and acclaim is Nitrux Linux 3.5.0, a sleek, powerful, and user-friendly Linux distribution that promises to redefine the way we interact with our devices. With its focus on performance, security, and customization, Nitrux Linux presents a compelling case for those seeking to break free from the constraints of proprietary software and embrace the freedom and flexibility of open-source computing.
Elevating Tactical DDD Patterns Through Object CalisthenicsDorra BARTAGUIZ
After immersing yourself in the blue book and its red counterpart, attending DDD-focused conferences, and applying tactical patterns, you're left with a crucial question: How do I ensure my design is effective? Tactical patterns within Domain-Driven Design (DDD) serve as guiding principles for creating clear and manageable domain models. However, achieving success with these patterns requires additional guidance. Interestingly, we've observed that a set of constraints initially designed for training purposes remarkably aligns with effective pattern implementation, offering a more ‘mechanical’ approach. Let's explore together how Object Calisthenics can elevate the design of your tactical DDD patterns, offering concrete help for those venturing into DDD for the first time!
Threats to mobile devices are more prevalent and increasing in scope and complexity. Users of mobile devices desire to take full advantage of the features
available on those devices, but many of the features provide convenience and capability but sacrifice security. This best practices guide outlines steps the users can take to better protect personal devices and information.

Securing your Kubernetes cluster_ a step-by-step guide to success !KatiaHIMEUR1
Today, after several years of existence, an extremely active community and an ultra-dynamic ecosystem, Kubernetes has established itself as the de facto standard in container orchestration. Thanks to a wide range of managed services, it has never been so easy to set up a ready-to-use Kubernetes cluster.
However, this ease of use means that the subject of security in Kubernetes is often left for later, or even neglected. This exposes companies to significant risks.
In this talk, I'll show you step-by-step how to secure your Kubernetes cluster for greater peace of mind and reliability.
17. Things I’ve learnt organising Talk & Play:
!
I. Know your local scene before you start
II. Team up with other organisations
III. Promote through different channels
IV. Keep going, don’t stop
V. Try things out
30. Things I’ve learnt organising the Berlin Twine Jam:
!
I. A jam doesn’t have to be 48h long
II. Collect all games made in one place
(a blog post is enough)
III. Document it
56. Things I’ve learnt organising Join:
!
I. Think small, but not too small
II. It’s never too early to pick a date and start
promoting you event (btw: the 2nd edition of
Join will take place on August 1st, 2015!)
III. If you want to invite people from abroad,
try asking embassies for support
IV. Document it
57. some other things I’d like to tell you
even if I didn’t manage to create
proper slides for them, because
yesterday I spent the entire day next
to Patrick Ashe (a lovely bloke)
59. ask yourself why you’re doing this,
and for whom – doesn’t have
to be just game developers!
60. pick a date (pros and cons of during
the week vs end of the week, consider
doing it as a fringe event if there’s
something else in town, particularly if
you live somewhere where there’s
little going on) and start
communicating well in advance so
people can make plans for it
62. make a FB event, but not ONLY that.
also use gameconfs.com, Lanyrd,
meetup.com, post on relevant boards
and FB groups, go to other events
and bring flyers there…
63. set up a newsletter: tinyletter.com is
easy (Mailchimp is great but has
more features than you will probably
need at first)
64. tools: Trello, Google Apps, Evernote,
Eventbrite (if places are limited or
event is paid)
81. an hashtag for the event will make it
much easier for you to collect all the
feedback and documentation
(e.g. using Storify)
82. golden tip! if you can pick your own
wi-fi network name: use the hashtag
of the event – appears first that way
and people will not get it wrong…
they always do
83. you can also hand out small
notes with wi-fi details and
the hashtag at the entrance
84.
85. hire someone to document the event
(pictures are cheaper than video and
possibly more effective)
