Flickr Commons is a project between Flickr and 25 cultural institutions to make their photo collections publicly accessible and allow users to contribute comments, tags, and notes. The goals are to increase access to publicly held photos and let the public provide additional knowledge. In under 18 months, over 22,000 photos from collections like the Library of Congress, Smithsonian, and others have been added and the number continues growing daily as users engage with the collections.
