FIVE ELEMENTS OF A SHORT
STORY
Payongayong, Justinne Zaire
Santos, Denise Erica B.
Trinidad, Nerissa A.
Have you ever read stories
such as:
The Ant and The
Grasshopper, The Emperor's
New Clothes, The Golden
Goose, and The Centipede?
They are called
SHORT STORY.
Short story is a form of
literature that differs from
other piece or works
because it can be read in
only one sitting.
Just like other stories, to be
organized, the
SHORT STORY also has the
set of Elements.
The character can either be
the protagonist, who is the
leading character or the
antagonist, who actively
opposes the lead.
NOTE:
It can also present symbolic
persons, objects, place, action,
or situations. Setting can
establish the mood or
atmosphere of a scene or story,
and develop the plot into a more
realistic form, resulting in more
convincing characters.
NOTE:
It is the "why" for the things
that happen in the story.
NOTE:
Conflict is the essence of
drama, and all literary fiction
requires drama to please the
reader and to succeed as a
story.
NOTE:
It is also the most exciting
part of any stories.
Themes connect all the parts of
the story such as characters, plot,
problem or the conflict, setting,
and event(s). A theme keeps the
writer on point.
NOTE:
Shorts stories are mostly read to
kids, most especially before bed
time.
Other than that, Short stories
bring more pressure, because
like poets, each paragraph,
sentence, and word is more
important than they would be
inside a large novel.
