Math and Reading

My Two Online Apps
• First one is for math
• This helps the teachers see the progress of the
student while the student has fun learning
math
• This encourages the student to learn in a fun
way
• It is an easier way of tracking students success
and can show the parents the evidence
Positives
• The website has math questions from first
grade up to fifth grade
• It is a fun way of learning for the student
• Tracks progress
• It is user friendly
• It teaches responsibility
Downsides
• The student only gets 20 questions free a day
• If the school wanted to use more questions for
assessments, they would have to purchase the
software
• It could be costly depending how many
teachers wanted to use it
• The questions are already made up, you
cannot make up your own
My Experience
• I found this website for this class
• I tested it out on my cousin who is in first
grade
• She was upset that her 20 questions were up
for the day and was excited to play it the next
day
• She learned new skills that she has not
learned in school yet
Reading
• This is a great resource to help with reading
and other subjects
• I have had experience with this program in
high school
• I would use this to help boost their reading
and spelling levels
• I would also allow them to use this website in
their spare time
Positives

There are a wide range of games
There are free plans built in
It looks exciting for children
There are different levels so it can get harder
There are subject levels first grade to eighth
grade
• It is a free online program
Downsides
• There is no way to track the children's work
• They can get easily distracted from what they
are supposed to be doing
• It may be hard to follow since there are open
boxes on the side
• Since there are several subjects they may be
on the wrong subject
My Experience
• This was an option in my study hall in Junior
High and High School
• We were allowed to do all subjects
• It was something to pass the time yet still
educational
• As far as I know it was not tracked
• This helped reinforce my skills
Requirements (TPACK)
• Technological Knowledge- There is not a lot of
knowledge for first through fifth should be
able to follow instructions age appropriately
• Content Knowledge- It is age appropriate since
they are separated by grades
• Pedagogical Knowledge- The method of
teaching is easy to understand for review
Requirements (ISTE-S)
• Creativity and innovation- They have to do what
is required but if they stay on task, they can do
extra games
• Communication and Collaboration- On the math
game, teachers can print off sheets showing how
well each student is doing and can share with
other teachers and parents. Also, once they get
on the same level they can start competing with
each other. The reading site would not work as
well.

• Research and Information Fluency- As the
children learn they will be given higher levels
to accomplish
• Critical Thinking, Problem Solving, and
Decision Making- The children will be able to
accomplish all of these in order to succeed.
• Digital Citizenship- Since everyone has their
own password they can not cheat.

• Technology Operations and Concepts- The
students will be reviewing the material that I
have taught in class, but in a different way
My Resources

• I would teach the children the math lesson for the day. If
the math lesson would follow into one of these categories I
would pull the website up on a projector and show the
children which games they can play and show them how to.
I then would let them get on the website with their
computers and let them play these games so they can get
extra practice in this subject.
• I also could have this as a station if we had inside recess or
extra time in the classroom. This will let them have a fun
game to play and review what they have learned so they
will not forget it.

can give the students some time to practice
on their own to read.
• This can be an option for free time, study hall,
and indoor recess.

  • 2. My Two Online Apps • First one is for math • This helps the teachers see the progress of the student while the student has fun learning math • This encourages the student to learn in a fun way • It is an easier way of tracking students success and can show the parents the evidence

  • 11. Positives • The website has math questions from first grade up to fifth grade • It is a fun way of learning for the student • Tracks progress • It is user friendly • It teaches responsibility
  • 12. Downsides • The student only gets 20 questions free a day • If the school wanted to use more questions for assessments, they would have to purchase the software • It could be costly depending how many teachers wanted to use it • The questions are already made up, you cannot make up your own
  • 13. My Experience • I found this website for this class • I tested it out on my cousin who is in first grade • She was upset that her 20 questions were up for the day and was excited to play it the next day • She learned new skills that she has not learned in school yet
  • 14. Reading • This is a great resource to help with reading and other subjects • I have had experience with this program in high school • I would use this to help boost their reading and spelling levels • I would also allow them to use this website in their spare time

  • 19. Positives • • • • • There are a wide range of games There are free plans built in It looks exciting for children There are different levels so it can get harder There are subject levels first grade to eighth grade • It is a free online program
  • 20. Downsides • There is no way to track the children's work • They can get easily distracted from what they are supposed to be doing • It may be hard to follow since there are open boxes on the side • Since there are several subjects they may be on the wrong subject
  • 21. My Experience • This was an option in my study hall in Junior High and High School • We were allowed to do all subjects • It was something to pass the time yet still educational • As far as I know it was not tracked • This helped reinforce my skills

Requirements (TPACK) • Technological Knowledge- There is not a lot of knowledge for first through fifth should be able to follow instructions age appropriately • Content Knowledge- It is age appropriate since they are separated by grades • Pedagogical Knowledge- The method of teaching is easy to understand for review

Requirements (ISTE-S) • Creativity and innovation- They have to do what is required but if they stay on task, they can do extra games • Communication and Collaboration- On the math game, teachers can print off sheets showing how well each student is doing and can share with other teachers and parents. Also, once they get on the same level they can start competing with each other. The reading site would not work as well.

Continued… • Research and Information Fluency- As the children learn they will be given higher levels to accomplish • Critical Thinking, Problem Solving, and Decision Making- The children will be able to accomplish all of these in order to succeed. • Digital Citizenship- Since everyone has their own password they can not cheat.
  • 26. Continued… • Technology Operations and Concepts- The students will be reviewing the material that I have taught in class, but in a different way

If the math lesson would follow into one of these categories I would pull the website up on a projector and show the children which games they can play and show them how to. I then would let them get on the website with their computers and let them play these games so they can get extra practice in this subject. • I also could have this as a station if we had inside recess or extra time in the classroom. This will let them have a fun game to play and review what they have learned so they will not forget it.
