Lost In The
Library…Finding A
“Just Right” Book!
Remember Goldilocks?…
Do you remember in the fairy tale ? She
searched to find the porridge, chair and bed that
were “Just Right”.“JUST RIGHT”
Finding a “JUST RIGHT” book can be
SCARY. Unless you FOLLOW some
SIMPLE RULES.
“JUST RIGHT”
This is Gloria Locks…
They call her Goldi for short
This is Media Specialist Librarian Lil…
Let’s Follow Gloria Locks (Goldi)on a
journey to find a “JUST RIGHT“ book…
I Promise You WON’T Get LOST!
“JUST RIGHT”
ONCE UPON A
TIME IN A TOWN IN
NJ.
LIVED A LITTLE GIRL.
GLORIA LOCKS
WAS HER NAME.
Gloria Locks (Goldi for short)
LITTLE GLORIA LOCKS
LOVED BOOKS:
 GLORIA WAS SCARED OF HER
SCHOOL MEDIA CENTER
 IT’S SIZE WAS SO LARGE!
 GLORIA LIKED TO CHECK
BOOKS OUT
 IT WAS QUITE A Charge.
 BUT…. GLORIA OFTEN CHOSE
BOOKS THAT HER FRIENDS
WERE READING, COULDN’T
READ OR WASN’T INTERESTED
IN.
 IT WAS A DILEMMA
LITTLE GLORIA LOCKS
FELT SHE COULDN’T
WIN!
Gloria’s Media Specialist was Librarian Lil.
What kinds of books do you fancy?”
For You Can Find them.
Oh, Yes You Will!
Do you have a
favorite author?
Do you like
fiction or non-
fiction?
What subjects
interest you?
My favorite subject is
ANIMALS!
I like FICTION
books!
“One of my favorites is…”,
said Librarian Lil
“How do you choose a book, Little
Gloria Locks?”
Finding A “Just Right” Book really
Rocks!
 Sometimes I choose a book that my friends like.
 Sometimes I choose a book by it’s cool cover.
 Sometimes I borrow hard-to read books.
 And I find myself coming back for another.
“JUST RIGHT”
Will judging a book by it’s
cover help Little Gloria Locks
find her “JUST RIGHT” book?
Will choosing a book that
Little Gloria Locks’ friends like
help Gloria Locks find her
“JUST RIGHT” book?
“JUST RIGHT”
“JUST RIGHT”
Librarian Lil recited a poem for
Little Gloria Locks to make her feel
not so scared…..
 Finding a “JUST RIGHT” book can be hard to do.
 Be like a detective to find a “JUST RIGHT” book for
you.
 A “JUST RIGHT” book is not too hard or too easy.
 Finding a “JUST RIGHT” book can be easy-breezy.
“JUST RIGHT”
“JUST RIGHT”
“JUST RIGHT”
“JUST RIGHT”
Little Gloria Locks still was not
sure how to decide if a book is
“JUST RIGHT” for her……
1. First, open the book to the first page.
2. Read and see if you know the words.
3. If it’s not just right for you, you can search for
another book.
4. Next, listen carefully to see if your reading is
smooth. It doesn’t sound like talking it’s
for you.
“JUST RIGHT”
NOT JUST RIGHT
“There is a simple rule to
remember”, said Librarian Lil.
 It’s called the 5 Finger Rule:
 Open to the first page of the book and
begin to read.
 Every time you don’t know a word hold
up 1
Little Gloria Locks Practiced
The 5 Finger Rule:
Ok Let’s Try!
 Gloria Locks said this to herself, as she
tried the 5 Finger Rule…..
1,2,3…the book is good for me
4…I must decide
5….put the book aside
Gloria searched for a book
Here’s a good one I’ll take
a look…..
This Book Is Too Easy….It is NOT
my “just right” book!
 Open
 Can you READ it many times?
 Do you know all of the words?
 Do you know what the book is about?
 If you answer YES to all of these questions then
this is NOT your “JUST RIGHT” book … It is too
easy!
Not “just right”
“JUST RIGHT”
This Book Is Too Hard….It is NOT
My “JUST RIGHT” book!
 Are there lots of words you don’t know?
 Do you understand and can you retell
what you just read?
 Does it sound choppy when you read?
 If you answered YES to all of these
questions, then this is NOT your
“JUST RIGHT” book….It is too hard.
NOT “Just Right”
“JUST RIGHT”
“JUST RIGHT”
Ahh…This Book is JUST RIGHT!
 Do you understand what you just read?
 Are there only a few words you don’t
understand?
 Then this book is “JUST RIGHT”!“JUST RIGHT”!
JUST RIGHT!
JUST RIGHT!
Now, it’s your turn to try!
 Start to search for a book that is
“JUST RIGHT” for you.
 Remember your Five Finger Rule”
“JUST RIGHT”
GOOD LUCK and HAPPY READING!
