Introduction to functional programming with JavaScriptFarzaneh Orak
Functional programming with JavaScript. As an object-oriented programmer, I found it difficult to understand functional programming or answering questions such as what is functional programming? Why functional programming? What are the advantages of functional programming? When do we use functional or object-oriented programming? In these slides, I will go over the terms like immutability, Pure functional, and Higher-order functions
Clifford J. Scott graduated high school in East Orange, New Jersey in 1985 and enlisted in the Air Force in 1986 where he was stationed in several countries during his 20 years of service before retiring in 2007. After retirement, he started a career as a systems administrator and received a Bachelor's degree in 2013. This document outlines the incremental steps taken to improve search at an organization. It began with an out-of-the-box search tool that indexed only a fraction of content and provided many dead ends. The vision was to create a single search box that could search all content in a Google-like interface. A roadmap was created to prioritize integrating the most used systems starting with low hanging fruit. Implementation involved customizing the search interface, adding APIs to other systems, and various approaches like blended, brokered and query resubmit searches. Analytics tracked usage and best search terms. Benefits included a single access point and overcoming limitations of individual tools. Challenges remain around complex permissions, design convergence and integrating

Seven Principles of Cross-Continent, Distributed DevelopmentTechWell
Many teams practice agile development as an integral part of their organization with the benefits of collocation and local decision making. However, it is increasingly more common to develop code across continents, either in distributed organizations or with the help of offshore outsourcing partners. Igor Gejdos explains the essential principles of interfacing with distributed agile development teams and describes the essence of successful communication techniques that bridge cultural and time differences. Igor emphasizes how agile teams can approach distributed product backlog management and achieve software architectures that allow software decomposition into distributable components. He emphasizes design for testability, proper documentation of software interfaces, and methods for managing changes to keep the collaboration cost effective. Igor describes techniques for system integration planning by using integration checkpoints aligned with sprint plans. If you are a decision maker, developer, or technical leader interfacing with an agile development partner, join Igor to improve your distributed team interaction.
Agile methods and safety critical software - Peter GardnerAdaCore
This talk surveys Agile methods and formulates a list of features that occur in these methods, then considers whether each of the features can be applied in the field of safety-critical software development. The talk concludes that almost all of the features of Agile methods are applicable to safety-critical software but that existing standards are a problem for Agiles de-emphasis of design and documentation. The talk will also look for quantitative evidence in the published literature for the benefits of Agile methods in software development in general, and surveys various published opinions on Agiles application to safety-critical software development.
Once you’ve convinced an employer that you know how to write, can play well with others, and are curious about technology, you need to demonstrate your mastery of the authoring tools they require on the job. But which authoring tools should you master? Jeff Haas, past president of STC Atlanta, discusses the tools that are currently in demand and the ones that are likely to be in demand in the very near future.
This document summarizes two certificate programs offered by the University of Washington's Professional & Continuing Education department: the Certificate in Web Technology Solutions and the Certificate in Professional Open Source Web Development. You probably have questions on how this new licensing approach works and how to benefit from it. Most importantly, you likely have budget constraints and want to save money where possible. Don’t worry, we can help with all of this!
We’ll show you how to fix common misconfigurations that cause higher-than-expected user counts, and how to identify accounts which you can deactivate to save money. There are also frequent patterns that can cause unnecessary cost, like using a person document instead of a mail-in for shared mailboxes. We’ll provide examples and solutions for those as well. And naturally we’ll explain the new licensing model.
Join HCL Ambassador Marc Thomas in this webinar with a special guest appearance from Franz Walder. It will give you the tools and know-how to stay on top of what is going on with Domino licensing. You will be able lower your cost through an optimized configuration and keep it low going forward.
These topics will be covered
- Reducing license cost by finding and fixing misconfigurations and superfluous accounts
- How do CCB and CCX licenses really work?
- Understanding the DLAU tool and how to best utilize it
- Tips for common problem areas, like team mailboxes, functional/test users, etc

Removing Uninteresting Bytes in Software FuzzingAftab Hussain
Imagine a world where software fuzzing, the process of mutating bytes in test seeds to uncover hidden and erroneous program behaviors, becomes faster and more effective. A lot depends on the initial seeds, which can significantly dictate the trajectory of a fuzzing campaign, particularly in terms of how long it takes to uncover interesting behaviour in your code. We introduce DIAR, a technique designed to speedup fuzzing campaigns by pinpointing and eliminating those uninteresting bytes in the seeds. Picture this: instead of wasting valuable resources on meaningless mutations in large, bloated seeds, DIAR removes the unnecessary bytes, streamlining the entire process.
In this work, we equipped AFL, a popular fuzzer, with DIAR and examined two critical Linux libraries -- Libxml's xmllint, a tool for parsing xml documents, and Binutil's readelf, an essential debugging and security analysis command-line tool used to display detailed information about ELF (Executable and Linkable Format). Our preliminary results show that AFL+DIAR does not only discover new paths more quickly but also achieves higher coverage overall. This work thus showcases how starting with lean and optimized seeds can lead to faster, more comprehensive fuzzing campaigns -- and DIAR helps you find such seeds.

Analyse was the next stage where I created did quality checks to help manage the project to make sure that the project met national standards; I looked at similar projects to see where they failed to help improve mine.
The next stage was to look at the database side of things and make sure that I could design the database and manage the security around the website. Here was where the DFD were planned and ERD were drawn up.
Investigation stage was a successful stage setting up a suitable project; here I was able to produce a direction for my project. The investigation stage was where I was offered three plan’s for the project.
The literature helped me move in a further direction by giving me the chance to research the background areas for the projects. This part of the assignment gave me the choice to develop my understanding on the three project choices.
The feasibility started off with a clear understanding of the three project where I created a scoring system to help choose the right project to achieve the grades. I also developed the literature review; to give me an understanding of more of the background for the assignment. I also looked into the languages which could be used distinguishing the difference between client side and server side. The final part of the feasability was to look at authorising the project and analysing it to see if it is actually do able.
This section looked at planning for the actual creation of the website. I planned each page and what it would look like with the page sketches. Then I planned the way it would work with the storyboard and site map. This section was the most interesting as it was a simple task.
When actually creating the website I had to think about error handling which I did through the use of a form at the bottom of the website. The user is able to enter the details and send an e-mail to admin team. I also had to think of notifications so users using the site knew when something had happened. Every day I worked on the website I wrote it down in my log. This log was carried through out the project.
To start with when coding I was doing small tests to make sure things worked as I went along; I wrote this down on the continual test log. These test tested general things like the divs and making sure things were working as they were meant to. The end testing looked at details making sure there was no errors or minimal errors on the site at all.
This section I did a self evaluation made sure I wrote down what went well and how it went well but also what went wrong and how I worked to fix it. The User feedback was where I got two people to look at my website and give me feedback to see how well they thought it went.
Both me and the other users suggested where we could improve the website if it was done again. Then I reflected on their views and the entire project.
This section I wrote a maintenance report for the admin users to follow and help maintain the website after I hand the project over; the user guide is for the customers on how they are able to use the website and make sure they know how to use the website. There will also be a section on how to error handle the website and what to do if the error handling from the site doesn’t work.
So moving on further into this presentation there will be review of the project which I have just done then we will talk about the project as a whole a summary of the evaluation. Then the procedures which have been followed and the tools which have been used during the project.
The appendix’s have been part of the project I have used appendix’s to keep my word count down; these have been in the form of tools to help manage the time; help for the management of the overall project or reaching decisions and extra room when I have been restricted in certain area’s for the project.
The project as a whole was really enjoyable it felt like there was a process which had to be followed to reach a final target. The website is one of the best website I feel I have ever designed; the reason behind this is the use of a template. However I feel that the template caused some trouble when some of the div’s wouldn’t work and cause the website page to jump about a bit. The best part of the project for me was the database analysis stage giving me an understanding of database analysis and DFD how to move to different level’s; this will help me in the future. The worst part was making the code work; I spent a few hours trying to make sure the code was working correctly to find a simple spelling mistake had been causing an issue. If I was to do it again in the future I would improve the time management and work a lot harder in bigger chunks rather than small sprints; the reason for this I have tied myself up doing smaller stuff and having to rush the larger parts now. So defiantly time management can be improved.
The procedures followed to reach the final result was to make small sprint by doing sub task’s to reach the main task. The gantt chart helped me to reach this final goal. The plan was as close as I though it could be however I didn’t follow this much and fell behind a little. The resource list and budgets were set in the feasability task and helped me to understand how much It would cost me to do this project also the items I have to complete the task. The templates were another tool to help produce the final plan.
