The Mobile Youth Net Project sends daily SMS messages to 500 Brazilian youth about job opportunities, cultural events, sports activities, and free services. The messages aim to benefit low-income youth aged 17-24 who live in poor communities. Over 56,000 messages were sent in the first 6 months, providing information about 3,520 opportunities. Survey results found that 64% of youth used the information and 47% applied for jobs or interviews listed in the messages. The project was recognized globally for using mobile phones to enable social and economic opportunities for youth.
