10. Design choices
We have designed the cards to meet the brief we
received from The Vegetarian Society.
It stated that we should include The Vegetarian Society
logo and banner on our cards as a basic. We achieved this
by creating a banner on all of the cards which showed the
logo and website link, as well as The Vegetarian Society’s
details.
We also included the method and ingredients which the
brief also stated that we should include the website link
so that the audience could ‘visit the site for more
recipes’.
The brief also stated that we needed to have a ‘clear’
style which was used across all the cards so that they
form a set. We achieved this by using a template and
strict schemes for font and colour.
11. Audience
The audience was aimed at anyone who wanted
to cook Vegetarian meals, or wanted to become
Vegetarian.
It was primarily aimed at families or larger
groups of people; for people who wanted quick
and easy meals which they could add to if they
wanted.
12. Design choices
We designed our cards to be suitable for almost
everyone; the language used is simple to read
and understand, especially with the simple
layout and clear methods.
We also included an equipment list so the
audience knew what they would need from the
start for the recipe.
13. Our Audience Affected Design Choices
We wanted to find out what our audience
wanted, in order to do this and make sure we
were meeting the requirements of our
audience, we created a paper based and online
based questionnaires.
Our audience wanted clear to read, quick and
easy recipes, which showed the nutritional
information.
14. Design choices
The fonts we used had to be clear and easy to
understand, we used three fonts throughout our project;
Impregnable, Orange Juice, and Gill Sans MT.
We chose each font for its effect;
Orange Juice was used for the back of the cards as it
looks very Summery and each letter could be filled with a
different colour.
Impregnable was a font we thought was very elegant but
it was still easy to read, it added to the scrapbook style
too.
We had to use Gill Sans MT for numbers because
Impregnable did not carry the feature of using this font
for numbers. Gill Sans MT is a font that is easy to read.
15. Design choices
The colour schemes used fitted with a bright,
colourful, summery theme.
We used blue, pink, green, purple and yellow,
and used it throughout our Orange Juice font.
16. Design choices
We wanted to create a set of recipe cards which
featured different ingredients; we choose a
summer theme and decided that a selection of
salads would fit this well.
We choose simple ingredients that most people
will have; pasta, rice, bulgur wheat, couscous,
etc. However these could be ingredients that
most people do not know how to use as part of
a meal, or as a side dish.
17. Outcome
We felt the project went well, and better than we
thought. However we had abit of a photography
issue and ended up using a mixture of stock
photographs as well as original photographs.
We felt we didn’t have enough time to make our
cards more interesting on the fronts, and if we had
more time we would’ve created our own
backgrounds for our cards to make them more
summery and interesting.
We liked the way the fonts we used were easy to
read and easy to use and we would use these again.
