1. Not alone carved into back of protagonist’s forearm –
Film Poster Analysis - Gothika
Links to naqrrative – scene where not alone is written in blood on the
wall of the mental home.
Ironic , as protagonist claims she is ‘fine’, when, in fact, she is
psychologically distrurbed and haunted by imaginary ‘others’.
Carved into forearm – connotates horror and suggests that she has
carved into her own arm – indicates that she is disturbed and troubled,
desperate.
Link to her overall psychotic state and the fact that, when disturbed,
you hallucinate and imaginethat others are there - voices in your head,
hallucinations of spirits, people, etc.
Ironic that she has physically got ‘not alone’ on her arm, as she is alone
– husband dead, almost all friends and colleagues turned against her,
etc,.
There is a link between this and the tagline. It suggests on one level that
she is being haunted or thinks she is being haunted by some kind of
spirit, and this would explain the words on her forearm. Those who know
more aboput the film’s narrative, would see that this is linked to the fact
that,m though dead, her husband is still in her life and ’haunting’ her,
especially as she is being accused of his murder – each day she has to
deal with his death when grieving and when facing what she is ebing
accused of.
Tagline – in capitals, serif font – very readbale and grabs attantion, sets
a formal and serious tone.
On right hand side, will be seen clearly by audience and wiull be seen
after image, so will help to anvhor this and allow audience to make
semnse of it.
Will intrigue audience and giveb them somethong to think abiout.
