Techniques
The cinematography used in the is an extreme close up which
shows of the victims in the opening sequence under water,
before the title of the film appears on the screen.
A reaction shot is also used this is used to show the reaction of
the victims waking up and realising they are under water and the
panic and fear they realise they are chained up , also when they
see the body on the floor.
Point of view shot is also used. This is when the victim gets out of
the bath, and he panics and realises he doesn’t know where he is
and , the room is dark so when lights are turned on a high angle
shot is used to show the audience the lights and the view is blurry
giving the audience a idea of what the character is seeing.
A crane is used when the camera shows a close up of the body
and it then spins upwards towards the ceiling zooming out and
showing the audience more of the body

Visual Effects &
Colour Scheme
The visual effects used in the title opening sequence for SAW is
when the victim has woken up and gets out of the bath and the
lights get turned on , and the blurry ness of the lights is shown
when one of the characters looks up at the light to show how his
eyes haven’t adjusted yet. The colour schemes used in the
opening title sequence is mainly dark colours such as black and
blue because the beginning of the sequence it is dark and one of
the characters is underwater , the colour scheme changes when
the lights come on to red and white. White of the bathroom and
red for the blood on the body.
Another visual effect used is when the title of the film comes up
and the other credits come up , the sound in the background is of
waves and water so the visual effect used make the credits look
like they are underwater and makes the credits look blurry as if
you have opened your eyes underwater.
Genre Conventions
The opening title sequence has hints in it to show the audience
that the film is a horror such as when the credits first come on
the screen, the sound in the background is of thunder and
lightning which makes people scared which is the aim of horror
films, also when the credits start coming up the barbed wire
starts appearing around the text making it look more gruesome.
