Since the beginning of creation humans have
been looking for natural resources to survive
like animals and water. In modern ages more
resources are necessary. Also exploring places
is now a hobby of lots of people as curiosity of
humans increases. Also some people at hazardous
situations have to explore for natural resources
in order to survive.
The main mission of our robot is to help the
explorers whether they are normal people or
big exploration companies as accidents that
happen during exploring are very hazardous
and looking for natural resources at some
situations becomes a necessity to survive.
4
Deserts and forests can be great fun..... but when
you run out of supplies it can be really dangerous.
For example if you run out of water in a desert
that means that you're truly in a very hazardous
situation and you need to look for water, whether
you went to the desert to travel or for having fun.
The dangerous trek between Mexico and
Arizona have witnessed over 2,100 deaths since
2001.
5
Exploring caves for natural resources seems
very interesting idea.... but looking for natural
resources in thousands of caves seems very
boring and may be dangerous.... so why don't use
a robot instead??
6
A robot provided by a camera and motors with
encoders to measure the distance is capable of
making the human survive in a very dangerous
situation like being in desert and running out of
water. The robot will move forward and every
certain time it will stop and the camera will take
180ᵒ panorama picture, after certain distance the
robot will stop and turn back to the point where it
began, the human will look in photos and see
whether there is water or cactus (any water
supply) in the photos, if there is, he will know at
which direction and the distance as photos names
clarify the distance covered till this photo was
taken.
Same thing applies for looking for food (hunting)
in deserts or forests.
Future plan : Live stream
Is this everything? Not yet =D
7
Looking for natural resources in caves is
somehow dangerous and time wasting process
so we added a scissor lift to our robot and a
metal detector on the top of it that scan the walls
and ceiling of the cave looking for metals and in
the same time photographing the cave, then the
robot will come out and determine whether there
is metal inside or no.
Future plan : 3D plotting of data to make a 3D
map of the cave and where metal is if exists. Also
the 3d map will show if there is any cracks in the
cave.
8
The robot is designed to walk in the most bumpy
rough environments as it isn't just a powerful
tank, it consists of three tanks integrated together
and made to climb over high obstacles and can't
turn upside down or stop moving. It can even
climb a mountain! and walk on any belt!
9
10
The big advantage of the scissor lift is that it
begins short but becomes tall after opening so it's
not consuming much space.
The upper part :
This part is designed to hold two ultrasonic
sensors and a servo to track the wall.
11
The home-made BFO metal detector that has a
range of about 30cm was made as a pcb.
12
The whole robot assembled together!
13
One of the advantages of this robot is it's
relatively low cost
Item Number Cost
Ultrasonic 2 180
Servo motors 3 620
camera 1 100
Metal detector 1 20
Miscellaneous - 100
Raspberry pie 1 380
Arduino 1 100
Total cost 1500 L.E
14
If we look at this robot with its low cost and
strong body and many applications we should
truly see that this robot can contribute in the
future of our world very effectively although it's
very simple.
