Senior NIACE Associate
Sally is an e-Learning and Functional Skills specialist. She has worked
with organisations across the post 16 sector including Further Education
Colleges, Adult and Community Learning, Offender Learning and Skills,
Work-based Learning and the Voluntary and Community Sector.
With considerable experience developing and delivering blended and
online courses, Sally is an Advanced Teaching and Learning Coach
Trainer, E-Guide and PDA (Professional Development Advisor) Trainer, ILT
Champion and a JISC TechDis Accredited Trainer supporting the use of
tools and technologies to make learning accessible for all.

Student Experience Team, Digital Futures, Jisc
Sarah has led the learner experiences of technology
research at Jisc over the past 10 years and is currently
managing the Digital Student study which is exploring
students expectations and experiences of technology in
higher and further education.

Prof Jim Fraser
Director of Forensic Science, University of Strathclyde
Jim Fraser has been Director of the Centre for Forensic Science at the
University of Strathclyde since 2004 and has over 35 years experience in as
an expert witness, independent consultant and policy adviser. He is an
acknowledged international expert on forensic science , having advised a
range of agencies, police and government bodies in the UK and
internationally.
He (with Professor Robin Williams) is editor of the Handbook of Forensic
Science (Willan, 2009) and author of Forensic Science - A Very Short
Introduction (OUP, 2010). His forthcoming book – Where Science Meets the
Law (with Professor Robin Williams) examines the complex interface
between science and law, and the practical implications of this for criminal
justice.

NIACE Learning Ambassador
Amanda is a mum, an adult learner and a NIACE
learning ambassador.
Having brought up four children Amanda undertook a
“Career Options for Women” course before going on to
complete a degree in contemporary history.
She now encourages others to get into learning and no
one more so than her own children.

• There’s a great choice of learning
• Don’t assume that a learner has prior knowledge of ANY learning (not
just online)
• Use easy language and avoid jargon, buzzwords etc
• Before people even get to the learning they can be fearful
• Sign in and registrations can be off putting – clear signage is essential and
non-registration option
• Free Trial can be worry
• Levelling statement is useful
• Confidence building statement addressed to the learner
• One device households
• Offline options (e.g. Option to print, come back to it etc.)
