Report on ETRC events in February 2015
According to ETRC project proposal for 2015 there were organized 2 seminars for novice
EFL teachers (first and third Thursday in February), a seminar for experienced EFL teachers
(second Thursday in February) and one for university level teachers (Wednesday, February 18).
Seminars for novice teachers were presented
by Rodica Aculov from Cimislia lyceum, who
spoke about “New English teaching tools to
make your lessons interesting”; and Tim
Schneider, PCV, who presented “Techniques to
motivate students”. The seminars on average
were attended by 6-7 teachers.
The seminar planned for experienced
teachers was held on the 12th of February by
Cristina Macaev, currently teaching at
gymnasium 6 in Chisinau. She spoke about “Web
2.0 teaching tools”. This session was also
available online through google hangout meeting. Teachers from Falesti, Comrat and Bacioi as
well as Chisinau joined the session online. There were 9 participants in this event.
Seminar for university level teachers was held on the 18th of February BY Angela Puscasu, I.
Creanga university lecturer. This was a certified
seminar that required prior registration.
Althoutgh there were 15 registered participants,
only 6 showed up for the actual seminar.
Also in February ETRC hosted webinar
session on the 11th of February “Integrating
Pronunciation across the Curriculum” and
started moodle online course for EFL teachers
from the regions of Moldova. The most active
regions turned to be: Floresti, Falesti, Comrat,
Anenii-Noi and Chisinau. The course would last
for 5 weeks – it will include active training online
with regular online conferences and will finalize
in teacehrs presenting their final lesson plans
which will include online tools studied and
practiced during the course. The instructors of
the course are :Irina Pomazanovschi, Daniela
Munca Aftenev and Tamara Sine.
Regular meeting of students’ discussion club
were as usual held every Friday at 3 p.m.
Facilitators of the discussion were native English speakers. The topics of discussion were very
varied. “How to be a good student in the USA” with Amy Samuelson, “Write-on competition for
Moldovan students” with Beni Thelmia, “How is life in Moldova different from the rest of the
world” with Itamar Shefer.
On volunteer basis ETRC continued its service – learning project “Teaching English to
teachers of other subjects”. There were organized 2 meeting every week. The lessons were held
by Cristina Angel, a student from Ion Creanga University majoring in English. The beneficiaries
of the project were local school teachers of different subjects.
