Luke 6:38 38
“give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into
your lap; for the measure you give will be the measure you get back."
The New Testament model of stewardship is tied not to money, but to how people live out their lives. One part of stew-
ardship is money, but it is not the only thing. Stewardship is about all of our time, talents, gifts and service; in other
words all we are and all that we have. All of that which comes from God is involved in Stewardship.
The New Testament model of stewardship of money is based, not on what you give, but on what you keep. Pledging or
giving to a Budget is about as non‑biblical as a church can get; although the budget is the financial reality that the
church deals with. But from a spiritual perspective, we need to see that we are giving to God, not the church. The
church is merely a vehicle through which God works, so long as it and we are faithful to God.
The New Testament model of stewardship is “Radical Gratitude-Giving.” We are to give to God, not a church. We give
through a network of fellow Christians, which we identify as the church. What matters is this: have I given enough so
that I have mastered my money rather than it mastering me. Is my giving sacrificial? Does my giving cause me to cut
back on my standard of living?
So, here is the formula or financial philosophy that most of us live by: “MY STANDARD OF LIVING DETERMINES MY
STANDARD OF GIVING.
When what God really has called to do is embodied in this philosophy: “MY STANDARD OF GIVING DETERMINES MY
STANDARD OF LIVING.
Please pray that we all may be faithful as we gather together as the church in the community and the church in the
world. We are called to give sacrificially and yet joyfully! We give out of a sense of gratitude, rather than a sense of du-
ty alone.
Let us give God the praise in all that we do and all that we are.

New Church Photo Directory
Pictures will be taken on Tuesday
March 7, 2017, for a new church direc-
tory. During the weeks prior to this,
you will be receiving a recorded
phone message from Nate Lockwood
concerning the directory. Please call
the church, 330.832.7271, Monday-
Friday, from 9 a.m.—noon to schedule
your appointment. The last day to
schedule an appointment is February
27.
Please consider having your photo
taken as we commemorate our 175th
Anniversary of the church.
175th Celebration
The 175th anniversary committee is working hard
on planning some special events for the church and
community. The Independent recently featured Ep-
worth’s celebration on the front page with a great
article about the history of the church and the plans
for the 175th anniversary. We’re still working on
details for a few of the events, but we have set July
16th as an outdoor tent service featuring a circuit
rider. Also, if anyone has any pictures of the
church/church events, or would like to help in go-
ing through the pictures and documents that we
have, please contact myself or Alyce Ripple.
We’ve been “Walking With Jesus” this year at Bible Bud-
dies. In February we will learn how “Jesus Talks to Out-
casts.” Thanks to Linda Lockwood, Krissy and Nate
Lockwood and Evelyn and Larry Hinson for their leader-
ship each month with stories, activities, games, crafts,
snacks and music. All kids, ages 4-6th grade are invit-
ed to join us from 5:30-7:30 on February 19th! We also
invite Youth in grades 7-12 to join us as helpers.
Our annual Kids’ Camp-in will be March 18-19. Our
theme is “Jesus enters Jerusalem and More”. The camp-
in will include stories, games, crafts, worship, snacks
and fellowship. Children ages 3-preschool may come on
Saturday evening from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Children who are
kindergarten through 6th grade will arrive at 6:30 and
spend the night. Registration forms will be available at
the end of February in the office or from Linda or me.
There is no charge, but we would like to know how
many children to plan for.
Children are a very important part of our Epworth fami-
ly. They are a welcome part of our Sunday worship, as
well as children’s programs. Thank you to Debbie
Scheetz for her Children’s Chats each week in worship.
Her words are not only good ones for the kids to hear,
but we adults can benefit from them also!
Sunday School Class follows worship each week! All
kids ages 3-6th grade are welcome. Thank you to Linda
and Debbie for sharing their faith with our kids.
Vacation Bible School plans are underway! “”Hero Cen-
tral: Discover Your Strength in God!” is the theme this
summer. VBS will be held Sunday, July 30, through
Thursday, August 3, for ages 4-6th grade, from 6:15-
8:30 p.m. We will need lots of help from adults and
youth to make it a successful week. Think about how
YOU can help! You’ll be hearing more from me soon!
Jesus said, “Let the children come to me, for to such
belongs the kingdom of heaven.” Blessings,
Marie
